While others were just as golden as the awards themselves, like Eva Longoria and America Ferrera's subtle takedown of racial stereotypes. Ricky Gervais introduced the two presenters, setting them up to take a swing at racism in Hollywood. "Eva Longoria and American Ferrera aren't just beautiful, talented actresses, they are two people that your future president, Donald Trump, can't wait to deport." Once onstage, Longoria and Ferrera took the joke to the next level:

Bravo hubert top model instagram. But then, MTV Australia sent the following tweet, pissing off a lot of viewers: "Where are the English subtitles? We have no idea what @AmericaFerrera and @EvaLongoria are saying #GoldenGlobes"

The account quickly deleted the tweet, but not before it was captured in screenshots and spread across the internet. The network then offered two apology tweets for the offensive joke.

"Our Tweet was in reference to @EvaLongoria & @AmericaFerrera’s #GoldenGlobes joke. We sincerely apologise for causing offence."

"We get it was a bad call. We’ll leave the humour to @rickygervais."

The account was quickly flooded with people pointing out the confusion between the two Latina actresses.

America ferrera twitter -

Eva Longoria and America Ferrera Used the Golden Globes to Make a Point About Latinas

After a fairly sharp jab at 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump's anti-immigrant stance from host Ricky Gervais, Eva Longoria and America Ferrera took to the Golden Globes stage to present the award for lead actor in a drama TV series.

Longoria spoke first, noting that she was in fact the Desperate Housewives and Telenovela star — not actress Eva Mendes. Ferrera then added that she was the Ugly Betty and Superstore star Ferrera and not Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez.

"And neither one of us is Rosario Dawson," Longoria joked.

The two continued the bit, with Ferrera calling Longoria "Salma," a reference to Mexican actress Salma Hayek, while Longoria finished out the sketch humor by calling Ferrera "Charo," a reference to the Spanish classical guitarist and reality TV star.

While the bit was lighthearted, Ferrera and Longoria were sending a larger message about Latinas in Hollywood, and perhaps even taking a jab at the Golden Globes itself. During the nomination telecast, the Golden Globes confused two actresses and tweeted that Gina Rodriguez would be revealing the nominees, while Ferrera was in fact the event's emcee.

The bit of humor is ironic for more than one reason: Not only are the two starring in separate NBC Latino-led sitcoms on Monday night — Longoria on Telenovela; Ferrera in Superstore — they also spent a lot of 2015 talking about the unique challenges Latinas face in Hollywood.

After appearing in Billy on the Street's "LaTina Fey" sketch, in which Billy Eichner asked Fey to name 20 Latino entertainers in under one minute, Ferrera starred in a parody of the sketch in which she tried to name 20 white entertainers in under a minute. Ferrera also spoke to the Huffington Postabout the lack of diversity in Hollywood.

Longoria spent 2015 doing philanthropic work trying to empower women in the Latino community, and spoke to the now-defunct Glam Belleza Latinaabout why she believes it's so important.

"The future success of America is intricately tied to the future success of the Hispanic community," she told the magazine. "And it's the women of these communities — the mothers, sisters, daughters — who make the world go around."

Unfortunately, one Twitter account demonstrated why Longoria and Ferrera's comments this year were necessary. After the two actresses' bit, MTV Australia tweeted, "Where are the English subtitles? We have no idea what @AmericaFerrera and @EvaLongoria are saying #GoldenGlobes"

Golden Globes Twitter Misidentifies America Ferrera as Gina Rodriguez (Photos)

Updated at 5.20 p.m. PT with comment from Gina Rodriguez.

The Golden Globes got off to a shaky start on Thursday morning by misidentifying announcer (and past nominee) America Ferrera as Gina Rodriguez.

In two separate tweets that have since been deleted (see below), the Golden Globes twice stated that Rodriguez, the star of CW’s “Jane the Virgin,” was on stage to present the nominees for the annual awards show presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association when it was in fact Ferrera.

“What occurred this morning was an unfortunate error,” the HFPA said in an official statement. “Our sincerest apologies to both America and Gina.”

Rodriguez went on to address the blunder, but fortunately she wasn’t too fazed by it.

“Who cares? America’s lovely,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s so beautiful and such a fantastic actress. If there’s anybody I want to get mixed up with — it’s her for sure!

“To me, it’s like, whatever. We always make mix-ups in life, man,” Rodriguez added.

Ironically, Ferrera won the Golden Globe in 2007 for “Ugly Betty” and was nominated in both 2008 and 2009 as well for her starring role in the AB series.

Rodriguez won the Golden Globe for “Jane the Virgin” in 2015, the first ever win at the awards show for The CW. She was also nominated this year for the same role.

This is the latest in a string of actresses of color being misidentified in the media. ABC recently displayed a picture of Indian actress Yukta Mookhey and identified her as “Quantico” star Priyanka Chopra.
