The Hugh makes its mark on Midtown East

In a stretch of Manhattan already teeming with food halls, a veteran group of developers is betting that a stacked lineup of vendors can produce a hit. The Hugh, named after building architect Hugh Stubbins, will begin opening at 601 Lexington Avenue, at East 53rd Street, this week. The New York Timesfirst reported news of the development.

The Midtown East food hall will open with two vendors this week: Avocaderia, an “avocado bar” that debuted at Industry City in 2017, and Thank You Come Again, a Thai newcomer from restaurateur Roongkant Preechathammarach. A total of 17 restaurants and bars are planned for the space, including outposts of Mah-Ze-Dahr bakery, Israeli hit Miznon, burger master BK Jani, and chef Pierre Thiam’s Teranga. All of the businesses will be counter-service, with a central dining area in the middle of the hall, the Times reports.

The Hugh comes from partners Anna Castellani, who opened the Dekalb Market food hall in Downtown Brooklyn, and David Swinghamer, who created the Hugh in partnership with real estate developer Boston Properties. Exact opening dates for the food hall’s vendors aren’t known at this time. Eater has reached out to Castellani for more information.

I also highly recommend booking the hotel to future TCS NYC Marathon runners! Two important features; if you choose the start line bus pick-up at the library it's a five minute walk from the hotel & second after the Central Park finish take the near by train/shuttle back to the hotel as it's equally convenient. The hotel's location was great for shopping, restaurants, & hoping on the train from Grand Central Station which is one block away. As Canadian travelers, with the US exchange rate this Midtown hotel had the best value for our stay. I will certainly book my return NYC visit at the Dylan!

With limos and US Open vans out front, that was a distinct possibility. We'll be back.

We got a super deal through Agoda so we got a fair price for a 4 night stay, the hotel is literally next to grand central so is very nice for moving everywhere in the city. I'm 26, travelled with my parents and we found it was quite expensive to find places to eat or grab a quick bite in the morning. Close to central park, shopping avenues, moma. however kinda far fr.

We were staying at the corner view king room which had incredible views of the city. The hotel employees were really nice and helpful. This hotel has such a great location from where you can just walk to Grand Central terminal, Brayant Park, Empire State, Times Square and much more in 10-15min max or you can choose the taxi option which will cost you around 10-12$

We got a Deluxe Queen Room which is a decent size for two people 53rd and lexington t.

The hotel is in walking distance from Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue. Very upscale environment. Service is great not too bad for Manhattan. However, breakfast costs extra and $14 for internet per day per computer is a ripoff. Then again, the nearest McDonalds (at 3rd street) is a 2 minute walk away, and you get internet there for free, no purchase required. This is true .

All in all, I enjoyed staying there. The only major downside was that the rooms are too warm due to central heating that can't be turned off, so you end up running the noisy air conditioning or sleep with the windows open, which is noisy too. Perhaps they'll fix that - I sure complained about it.

I chose the Roger Smith for both the great value Agoda offered and the location (which turned out to be even better than I thought). Only gripes were that the nights could be a bit noisy from traffic etc. due to the central location (and probably also because my room was on the second floor), and the bathroom often gave off a smell like old, damp towels. Otherwise, this hotel was great value and I've already recommended it to a few of my acquaintances.

Staff in the hotel and the adjacent bar/restauran.

Several of us are also regular runnings and appreciated the availablity to rent shoes and gear for the day - just wish I had known beforehand. The restaurant was apparently undergoing renovations so the menus were very limited and food was not 5 star. We were told that the restaurant maintains a rooftop garden for herbs, spices and a few vegetables. If this is correct, sure seems like the hotel could advertised it - what a great idea!

I would warn people planning to stay at the hotel to expect problems during check in. Since the hotel seems to have guests from Wyndham membership program, the reception assumes that you are their membership program guest and does not understand how you have a confirmed reservation from another booking agent such as Agoda. The morning reception staff are helpful, but the evening shift staff should work on interacting with guests in a more professional manner. I had a confirmed booking from Agoda and had shown them a print out of our reservation, but still the receptionist was reluctant to give me a room and kept on telling me my reservation is not in their system, even when the central reservation of Wyndham said there should not be a problem. I think that communication between the central reservation system and Wyndham front desk needs to improve. The Agoda staff was very efficient in trying to help me get a room, but such issues not occur especially if this is a recurring problem at this hotel. The rooms are spacious and has a spacious kitchen with limited utensils. There isn't a coffee maker at this hotel nor complimentary tea/coffee. I have stayed at another Wyndham in San Diego and there there was a coffee maker and complimentary tea and coffee so I was expecting the same in this hotel. There were 3 TVs in the room, but only 1 worked properly while the others did not show all the channels and the channels were not in the order stated on the TV guide. If you are looking for a hotel with a good location and spacious rooms, I may suggest this hotel, but don't expect to have a smooth check-in nor professional staff.

The design of 610 Lexington, now known as 100 DBox

The luxury residential tower at 610 Lexington Avenue has been announced more than once before, but this time, it is attempting something of a grander entrance. The Turtle Bay tower heretofore known as 610 Lexington will be known, developers RFR and Chinese firm Vanke announced last night, as One Hundred East Fifty Third Street.

It is also being retooled with new design and marketing teams. Leonard Steinberg, of Urban Compass, has been selected as the exclusive marketing and sales firm for the project. And the interiors of the 61-story building, where excavation began about a year ago, will be designed by London-based super-firm Foster + Partners—which is also designing the exterior—in collaboration with interior designer William T. Georgis, a favorite of RFR principal Aby Rosen.

A spokesperson for the developer attributed the new name to an “internal decision,” later specifying that the building, which has been known in the press and on the Foster + Partners website as 610 Lexington, had never been formally named by the developer. The main entrance, she added, will be on E. 53rd rather than Lexington, hence the name.

“It’s natural that he’d pick a new name, from a branding point of view, that sounds much more chic, boutique and high-end, than 610 Lexington,” Donna Olshan, of Olshan Realty, told the Observer. Mr. Rosen, she added, “has an extremely sophisticated palate, and is an art collector of great works and buildings.”

There is also, of course, the fact that Lexington, being the traditional dividing line between the haughty park-adjacent avenues and the Yorkville hoipolloi, does not quite call up the vision of ultra high-end luxury that the tower hopes to embody. Whereas the East 50s bring to mind those most elite of places, Beekman and Sutton.

But unlike almost all tony residential buildings in those enclaves, the 94-unit One hundred East 53rd Street will be a condo. Moreover, Mr. Rosen seems not so much attempting to fit into that place-bound pantheon of brick and limestone, but rather, to helm a new pantheon—the Norman Foster tower will join Mies van der Rohe’s Seagram Building and Gordon Bunshaft and Natalie de Blois’s Lever House, both owned by RFR, on what the developer is pushing as “Architects Row.”

Sales are expected to commence in late Spring 2015, according to the development’s new website. Meanwhile, details on the amenities, which first national bank raleigh nc no doubt be exhaustive, remain vague, but according to the project’s Schedule A, future occupants can look forward to lounging poolside on the ninth floor or eating at the restaurant on its ground and second floors. Name Changer: 610 Lexington Will Now Be Known as 100 East 53rd Street

— Vegan fast-casual restaurant chain NuLeaf opens the doors of its second location, at 888 Eighth Avenue, in Hell’s Kitchen today.

— Marathon Coffee is headed to the Upper East Side roughly a year after opening its first location in Chelsea.
