Toys, gifts sought for more than 1,000 Tri-City children and teens. Here's how to help

Buying an extra gift for a Tri-City child will go along way to making the holidays special.

The holiday season is upon us, and with your support, SHARE Family and Community Services can make this season brighter for those they serve.

Last year, 1,100 children in the Tri-Cities received toys because of generous Tri-City donors.

This year, the Toy Bank will be open Dec. 1 to 24 at Coquitlam Centre between H&M and Dynamite, on Level 2, best accessed via the northwest or northeast entrances.

Volunteers will be collecting new, unwrapped toy donations for children and youth, and monetary donations via credit and debit.

However, this year SHARE will be doing things a little differently.

Instead of wrapping gifts for donations, SHARE will be selling sustainable and recyclable gift wrap packages for you to take home to wrap up your gifts.

For a minimum $2 donation, you’ll get a gift bag, tissue paper, and gift tag.

As Coquitlam Centre is focused on sustainability, this option is for people to purchase recyclable materials to take home to package their gifts and fits the mall’s environmental commitment, according to Valerie Hutton, director of fund development for SHARE.

If you would like to make a donation, feel free to stop by and say hi to SHARE volunteers anytime between noon and 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

This year, SHARE will be collecting food and donations for hundreds of vulnerable Tri-City families.

While schools typically collect food for holiday hampers, community food drives are also being held.

For example, in Port Moody, Thrifty Foods at Suterbrook Village is holding a holiday food drive on Dec. 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You can also make a financial donation directly to SHARE here.

Other events coming up:

  • Holiday Cheer at the Pier in Port Moody at Rocky Point Park on Dec. 4 from 6-8 p.m.; bring a non-perishable food item
  • Virtual CPR holiday train, Dec. 18, with performances, including The Strumbellas, The Odds, The Trews and more, via Facebook
    • For more information, visit here.

Low mortgage rates, stagnant prices boost housing demand in Tier-II cities too

Developers are offering various discounts such as straight-up price reductions, delayed payment arrangements, and other incentives to attract fence-sitters and prospective homeowners as the holiday season is fast approaching.

The recovery in housing demand is being driven by a growing demand for homeownership, which is being fueled by historically-low mortgage rates, stamp duty waivers in several states, and stagnant prices. According to the JLL – Residential Market Update: Q3 2021, “in Q3 2021, sales witnessed an upward trajectory, increasing by 65% on a sequential basis, with 32,358 apartment units sold during the quarter against 19,635 units in Q2 2021.”

Developers eagerly launched new home projects with an eye on the festive season as economic growth returned in tandem with the gradual return to normalcy. According to data collated by Housing.com, 65,211 units were launched in Q3 2021 — a jump of 199% compared to the Q2 2021 period when 21,839 units were launched.

Related News

Sales in the real estate sector are also increasing due to people’s revived interest in real estate assets. As per Housing.com, 55,907 units were sold in Q3 2021 compared to 15,968 in Q2 2021.

Tier-II cities had a similar story. According to realtors operating in the TriCity (near Chandigarh) market, the region also had a healthy movement.

“In the post-pandemic scenario, people are preferring developers with a good track record. The demand for luxury homes is on the rise in this market, and also the definition of affordable housing has changed as people want home with full amenities like security, safety, recreation, and shelter all at once. Apart from this, the demand for commercial projects has also increased because people have realized the financial stability of such assets,” says Prateek Mittal, Executive Director, Sushma Group & IIT Alumnus.

The rise of surrounding areas such as Mohali and Zirakpur in Punjab was prompted by high real estate prices in the main city. “Infrastructural development is also adding to the sustainability of the Tricity market as people prefer buying properties near areas that can provide good connectivity; that is why people are thronging to real estate projects in Mohali and Zirakpur; this is attracting investments from NRIs,” adds LC Mittal, Director, Motia Group.

Developers are offering various discounts such as straight-up price reductions, delayed payment arrangements, and other incentives to attract fence-sitters and prospective homeowners as the holiday season is fast approaching.

The realtors here maintain that Chandigarh has long been on the realty map for NRIs; the opening of properties in neighbouring regions such as PR7 Airport Road has provided them with the opportunity to expect exceptional returns on their investment. It also boasts a high level of living, making it a popular location for buying and investing. Similarly, Mohali offers a diverse range of real estate prospects supported by robust infrastructure development. The recently constructed 200-foot Mega Airport Road has increased the value of properties in Mohali. Then there’s Zirakpur, which is seeing continuous real estate growth in Chandigarh. People are increasingly choosing larger, more secure homes, and this consumer trend has paid off handsomely for Zirakpur.

Error

I have been having issues trying to log into my account ever since I did face recognition. I can not use my phone to access any of my banking. I now have to do everything on my computer. Very frustrating. Let’s get it together guys!

Constantly losing personal settings and logged off

Every time I load up the app it is a coin toss as to whether my user ID is saved or not or if Touch ID stays enabled or not. Now recently I have been needing to answer my security questions each time I log in and after I do so I get kicked out of my account after seeing my balance. Although I can see my account in detail on the desktop, the whole point of mobile banking is to be able to do so while in transit or away from any computer. Please address these bugs. Your last software patch was 3 months ago.

EDIT: Now my security questions can’t even be pulled up! This app is now completely useless and occupies storage space for absolutely no reason now. I highly do NOT recommend this app and suggest using the criminally heinous web browser version instead.

Works Only Sometimes

The app is fully featured but has a few problems that have gotten worse since the last update. It allows me to set up touch ID but disables it randomly even at home. I can send $ via Zelle to everyone except my husband (while he can send $ to me via Zelle without any problem). The login process is slow overall, and when I do get in it prompts me to go throught tutorials and setups I have already seen.
