Frequent Amazon Shopper - Easy Approval

Credit Karma Member

This is a great rewards card. My wife and I shop frequently on Amazon and will reap the 3% rewards quite often. So far we love the card and the power to manage my account online. A little about me... I have a fairly limited credit file. I started my credit journey in January 2015 with ano auto loan. I have made every single payment on time. In December 2015 I applied for Capital One Secured Card and was approved for a $200 limit with only a $99 deposit. I have kept utilization low (wife's advice) and made every payment on time. I was increased to $500 in June. I also applied for Chase Freedom in June and was approved for $500. Chase automatically increased my limit to $2000 in September. I have 5 comenity cards with nice credit limits and still keep utilization low. I applied for this card two weeks ago and was instantly approved for $2000 "Initial credit limit"!! Chase has been good to me and I will stick with them! CK scores TU 666, EQ 656 100% payment history 14% Utilization 13 Inquiries (Mostly due to shopping for an auto loan in February for my wife) 1 Collection of $325 which I will pay off at the end of this week

Terrible experience with this card

Credit Karma Member

My application was accepted and I was issued a credit card. I though the application process went smoothly, but two weeks later they looked at my Experian report and decided I didn't have enough personal credit history (most of my previous credit was jointly held with my wife who passed away recently). Even though they had my telephone number, email address, and could instant message me through the app/website, they chose to simply close my account without notifying me. I found out the account was closed after my kids and I ate a meal at a restaurant and I couldn't pay for it with my credit card. It took multiple messages and calls to their customer support department before they would even explain why the account was closed (I assumed it was an error or something up until that point). Customer service was rude and evasive every single time I talked to them. I closed my checking account with Chase before this because they were terrible, but I really wanted an Amazon card because I love Amazon. I have learned my lesson that everything Chase touches is awful.

Have not been denied for a store-branded card E EVER. They tell me I don't have accounts with them yet I have an auto loan with them for 9 years (never missed a payment).

Ideal for Chase customers+Amazon shopper

Credit Karma Member

I'm a Chase account holder and Prime subscriber already, so when this ad popped up while shopping on Amazon offering an instant $100 Amazon credit, I applied and now I use it for everything! You can't beat the 5% cash back on Amazon purchases, plus 1-3% on everything else. Plus, Chase banking makes it so easy to pay the credit card through their app, I basically use it instead of my debit card and then just pay the bills in full each month. When paid in full, you not only pay 0% interest, but also get cash back that adds up fast and points never expire unless you default. This is my new favorite card!

Their fraud protection is a joke

Credit Karma Member

So apparently while I was out of town on business travel and used my credit card for a cab ride the cabi charged me $200 rather than 20. And because I can't produce a receipt saying that it should have only been $20 Chase refuses to refund the difference note to self do not use your Chase credit card while you travel. Apparently because it detected a chip they don't need my signature as proof for the charge. Although I loved the Amazon Rewards the fact that they let me get ripped off for $200 kind of negates that

Good Reliable Card for Amazon Shoppers

Credit Karma Member

I don't have anything bad to say about this card. It is easy to manage and the chase website and app make it easy to make payments. The 5% cash back at Amazon and Whole Foods and 2% back at restaurants is nice. Not the best in terms of rewards but a reliable card.

Instant Favorite!

Credit Karma Member

This card has instantly become my favorite card. I have a Chase bank account so it makes the card extremely easy to manage. You get 3% cash back on Amazon purchases, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. I treat this card like a debit card and use it for everything that I would use my debit card for, then I turn around and make a payment and it comes immediately out of my checking account and back on my card. Super convenient! I've only been using the card for a week and I already have over 1000 points. Also you can redeem the points for gift cards, starting at 1000 points, or you can use it towards an amazon purchase. Love this card!

Credit Karma Member

The customer service is so bad from Chase that I am planning on closing this account because of the following experience. I got the card put charges on it, paid the bill in full and 5 days later Chase still hasn't cleared the payment! Customer agent got Supervisor on the phone who just put me on hold forever.

Best Credit Card for Amazon Frequenters

Credit Karma Member

I got this card as my first credit card since I frequently buy products from both Amazon and Whole Foods and I have Amazon Prime. If you also purchase from these two stores, the cash back is amazing. 2% on restaurants and gas also helps. The card also feels great, it has some weight to it, giving it a premium feel. Customer service is great, but I only had to call them once to verify my identity. The credit limit I started out with is very low, to the point I can't make any hefty purchases on this card. The APR is also high, so make sure you pay off the card right away. So should you get this card. If you have Amazon Prime, buy most of your products from Amazon and/or Whole Foods, and are on top of paying off your credit card, this card was made for you.

My favorite credit card!

Credit Karma Member

Was approved for a $2500 limit, even though my Experian report shows a score of 645 and one old, charged off debt. The card was instantly added to my Amazon account as the default payment method, even though it was about another week before I received the card in the mail and could register on Chase's website. That part was kind of weird. I wasn't comfortable spending on a card when I couldn't even log in to make a payment, so I made sure not to use it until I had the physical card in my hand and had registered with Chase. I've now had the card for a couple of months, and I use it constantly. As with all my cards, I only use it for things I have the cash to pay off immediately, and I keep my statement utilization very low. I've made about $30 back in cash rewards in the two statement periods I've had the card. That's probably small potatoes to some people, but it's free money, and it's more than I make with my Discover card, so I'm happy.

Best Card I've Had

We've had this card for 5 years now. We've always gotten excellent customer service when we've called. They've always been friendly and helpful. We've had a number of disputes and they've always been resolved to our satisfaction.

Amazon.com Visa – Is There a Catch?

Amazon Visa Credit Card

I’ve been meticulously checking the sites that my traffic has been coming from the last few days, so that I can thank all of the people that have been linking me. It’s a tad bit on the obsessive side, but I want to make sure people know how grateful I am. While doing this, I noticed one visitor came upon the site by doing a Google search for “amazon visa $30 off. Is there a catch?”

I don’t know if you’re still around, Google-searching-visitor, but I wanted to answer your question. Yes, there is a catch. The catch is that you’re applying for a credit card! I don’t know how much you looked into the offer, but I’m going to explain everything I know about the card from having it for the past year and half.

When you look at your shopping cart on Amazon.com, they’ll try and tempt you by saving “Save $30 on this order by signing up for an Amazon.com Visa!” But is this a good idea? The answer: absolutely maybe. (Yeah, I stole the term “absolutely maybe” from Stephen Colbert.)

If you’re already in the market for a credit card, like I was when I got this card, then it might be a good idea – if you shop at Amazon a lot. The card offers Amazon points for every dollar you spend – 1 point per dollar for normal purchases, and 3 points per dollar spent at Amazon. When you reach 2500 points, Amazon will automatically mail you a gift certificate to their site for $25. In other words, it’s 1% “cash” back on normal purchases, and 3% on Amazon purchases (including money spent on shipping!).

This is good if you’re a regular Amazon shopper. But if you rarely shop at Amazon, your return is only going to be 1% – you can find cards with better rewards than that, cards that offer 3% on groceries, gas, and other everyday purchases.

The card carries no annual fee, by the way. The interest rate is 0% for the first six months, including balance transfers and purchases – after six months, it will be about 17%, which is variable, although I will say it hasn’t moved in the time I’ve had it, for what that’s worth.

There are actually three versions of this card, but from what I can tell, they’re exactly the same. Besides the regular version, they also offer a student card and a business card. I don’t think they offered these at the time I signed up, or else I would have applied for the student card. They really aren’t functionally any different, they might have different designs on the actual card, I really don’t know.

If you apply for the card during checkout, it will apply the $30 off to your purchase immediately. If you apply any other time, it will credit your first bill for $30 – so if you spend $30 on the card the first month, your bill will be for $0.

So, back to the catch? It’s a credit card! If you’re not responsible with credit, then it’s a big catch. Can you still get this card for the $30 off if you’re bad with credit? Yes, but you have to do it very carefully. Get the card, get the $30 off, pay any extra on your bill when it comes, and CUT UP THE CREDIT CARD WHEN IT COMES AND NEVER USE IT (or use some other method for not using your card). If you use it anyways, and get yourself into trouble, it’s not my fault. I told you how it is!

If you're planning on shopping Amazon's Black Friday sale this year, there are compelling reasons to do it with the company's flagship cash-back credit card. During this year's holiday season, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card* features a considerable sign-on bonus -- a $200 Amazon gift card, rewarded to you instantly upon account approval -- and up to 25% back on select items in rotating categories.

The card provides 5% cash back on purchases at Amazon and Whole Foods. You also get 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drug stores, and 1% back on other purchases. So whether you're buying groceries at Whole Foods or from Amazon Fresh, this card will help maximize your savings this holiday season.

As an alternative to earning cash-back rewards on a purchase, cardholders can choose 0% intro APR financing on equal payments for purchases of at least $50 for six to 18 months (14.24% to 22.24% variable APR thereafter). This feature could help you stretch out the payment period on a larger purchase, though you may be subject to paying interest.

  • 1% back on all other purchases*

Our Take

The Amazon Prime rewards card has no annual fee and the eligibility requirements aren't particularly stringent. Applicants with a "fair" credit score (approximately 580 or higher) stand a good chance of being approved.

Amazon also offers a slimmed-down version of its Rewards Visa for people who are not Prime members -- the Amazon Rewards Visa Card*. The Amazon and Whole Foods cash-back rate with this card is only 3% and signup incentive is lower: a $100 Amazon gift card. But if you're looking to maximize your Amazon cash-back potential, you're probably better off becoming an Amazon Prime member first -- which costs $119 per year -- and then applying for the full-featured Prime version of the card. Since you'll earn a $200 Amazon gift card as a sign-up bonus with the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card, it can fully cover your first year of Prime membership, which features many worthwhile Amazon benefits.

Some alternatives to Amazon credit cards for holiday shopping

Another alternative for the Amazon-heavy shopper is the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, which offers 6% cash back on groceries at US supermarkets -- including Whole Foods -- on up to $6,000 per year (after which the cash-back rate decreases to 1%). You can also earn 6% cash back on select US streaming service purchases, including Amazon Prime Video. Lastly, you can get a $300 statement credit by spending $3,000 within the first six months of membership. Cash back is received in the form of Reward Dollars that can be redeemed as a statement credit.

Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Enrollment may be required for select American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.

The Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card* is another great option for those who do much of their holiday shopping online but not primarily on Amazon. This card offers a customizable 3% cash-back category that doesn't rotate, and online shopping is one of the available categories, as well as 2% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs (for up to a combined $2,500 in choice category/grocery store/wholesale club purchases per quarter, then 1%). You receive 1% cash back on all other purchases. Note that you have to manually select this category through your account to receive these benefits, as the default category is gas. You'll also receive a $200 online cash rewards sign-on bonus after spending $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of account opening.

It might work, assuming you can instantly qualify for the credit card. I'd bet that isn't likely to happen if you have never had a credit card before though. (I extrapolate that to assume you don't have much of a credit report. I could be wrong.)

However, it is a gift card, not cash. You would at best get $30 worth of stuff and shipping from Amazon.

  • Your credit would take a hit from the credit inquiry.
  • Then get a small bump from the new credit limit increase and lower utilization.
  • Then you would cancel it and your limit goes down because your utilization goes up, thereby making your credit score go lower.
    • (This assume you utilize credit in some other fashion at all)

Net effect? Your score goes down because you applied for the card. This is also highly dependent on the time frame in which this all happens. Credit reports won't show any activity for a couple of months. So the up and down could cancel each other out if you do it too fast.

My advice, don't apply for credit you don't want or need. Certainly don't apply for credit just to get a reward or discount. The rewards and discounts are only smart if you were already making the purchase.

To expand on the question you didn't ask, it is a pretty solid decision to get a credit card, especially if you don't need one.

  1. You will (sadly) be judged on your credit for more things that just buying stuff. (Insurance, jobs, rental agreements, etc)
  2. Credit takes time to build, so getting started before you need it is important.
  3. If you don't need it, you can develop good habits around credit. (Always pay it off, never carry a balance, never charge more than you can afford to pay that day)

I suggest you join a credit union and get a credit card from there. They will have programs and better deals.

Once you have the card from your credit union, and you if you find credit cards fit your lifestyle, AND if you find you can manage credit responsibly, then feel free to find a rewards card you like (such as Amazon) and apply for it.

Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card Review: More Details

The Amazon Prime Visa Signature card comes with a head-turning number: 5% on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases. The card has many of the same features as its predecessor – the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature card – and it improves on the regular Amazon Rewards card by offering an unlimited 5% rewards rate on Amazon.com purchases.

For current Amazon Prime subscribers, the Prime card is worth the hoopla. Besides the fact that you will have a shiny, metal card to show off (yes, the Amazon Prime card is made of metal), the card comes with some useful purchase and travel protections, and, of course, a higher rewards rate. However, you’ll need to shell out $119 for Amazon Prime membership just to obtain the card. While you can get far more than $119 worth of value out of Prime membership, the service doesn’t necessarily make sense for every cardholder.

Tip: Amazon Prime membership on its own comes with very valuable benefits, including free two-day shipping and Amazon Video. If you aren’t currently an Amazon Prime member, we recommend looking in to the full list of benefits to see whether Prime Membership — and, by extension, the Amazon Prime card —  make sense for you. (Learn more in our article, “Is Amazon Prime worth it?”)

Sign-up bonus

You can earn a $150 Amazon gift certificate as soon as your application is approved as a sign-up bonus. An instant gift certificate is Amazon’s “business as usual” sign-up bonus, and the current $150 offer is a good bit higher than the card’s former bonus of a $100 gift certificate.

Earning Amazon points

The unlimited 5% return on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases is the best thing the card has to offer. While there are competing cards that also offer a 5% rewards rate on Amazon purchases, they come with seasonal restrictions and limit the 5% rate to the first $1,500 in purchases. The card also offers 2% back on restaurants, gas stations and drug store purchases (and 1% back on the remainder of your purchases), adding up to a high earning rate overall.

For someone who already subscribes to Amazon Prime, an unlimited 5% bonus is mere icing on the cake. However, other applicants will need to weigh the value of Amazon Prime benefits before springing for the card. You’ll need to pay $119 for Amazon Prime membership before you apply, and, though Amazon Prime does offer very valuable benefits, the rewards that you earn from the card are unlikely to outweigh the membership fee.

Even when you factor in the $150 gift card that Amazon offers to new cardholders, the $119 annual fee for Amazon Prime membership takes a chunk out of your potential rewards earnings after your first year. If you spend less than $1,500 on Amazon purchases each year, you may be better off applying for an alternative rotating rewards card that offers 5% earnings on Amazon purchases and pairing it with a cash back card that offers a 1.5 to 2 cash back rate on everyday spending.

Bonus for Whole Foods customers

Whole Foods customers may be delighted to learn that the 5% bonus rate also applies to Whole Food purchases – both online and at the register. Frequent shoppers with Whole Foods can earn a substantial amount of rewards with the Amazon Prime card. In fact, if you spend at least $2,380 at Whole Foods each year, your earnings with the card will cancel out the cost of your Prime Membership.

Select rotating categories on Amazon will also earn extra rewards up to 20% on top of the default 5% bonus. While the 20% number may seem enticing, however, these bonus categories won’t make up the bulk of your purchases and can be somewhat niche.

Redeeming Amazon points

Amazon aims to make sign-up for the Amazon Prime card and rewards redemption as seamless as possible. Current members of Amazon Prime with an Amazon Rewards Visa Signature card will be automatically upgraded to the new card. While you are waiting to receive your new Amazon Prime card in the mail, you can log in and link your current Visa Signature card to your account to start receiving the 5% bonus.

Redeeming points on Amazon

Amazon allows you to conveniently apply your points at the point of purchase

Once the card is linked to your Amazon Prime account, choose the card as your payment option, input the number of points you want to use, and Amazon will instantly apply them to your purchase.

If you don’t want to use your points for Amazon purchases, Amazon gives you a few other redemption options, including statement credits, deposit into a checking or savings account, gift cards and travel rewards.

Other Amazon redemption options

You can redeem Amazon points for cash back, gift cards or travel

While you’ll need to collect a minimum of 2,000 to 2,500 points to qualify for one of these alternative options, the good news is that you get a value of 1 cent per point no matter which way you redeem your points. (However, you’ll need to call in to Chase’s travel center to redeem your points for travel – for convenience’s sake, you may want to avoid this option.)

Unfortunately, although this is a Chase card, there are no options to transfer points to other Chase cards. Also, points can be applied only to one Amazon Prime account. Cardholders searching for a card with more versatile points would be better off checking out Chase’s line of Ultimate Rewards cards.

Purchase protections

The Amazon Prime card offers several protections to help protect your purchases made online. The card guarantees zero fraud liability – which means you are never liable for unauthorized purchases made with your card. The card also includes:

  • Purchase protection – Your card covers you for 120 days against damage or theft of purchases, up to $500 per claim and $50,000 per account.
  • Extended warranty protection – For eligible warranties of three years or less, your card will extend the warranty period by an additional year.

Travel protections

If you’re reading this review, it’s likely that you are considering the Amazon Prime card mainly for Amazon purchases. You may be surprised to learn that the Prime card also makes a good travel companion, thanks to its collection of Visa Signature benefits, including:

  • No foreign transaction fees – The card doesn’t charge transaction fees on purchases made outside the U.S. (which means the card also spares you a 2% to 3% fee for purchases on Amazon sites in foreign countries).
  • Travel and emergency assistance – Cardholders are eligible for legal, medical and other emergency services while traveling.
  • Lost luggage reimbursement—The card covers you and your family members for checked and carry-on bags that are lost or damaged by a carrier – up to $3,000 per passenger.
  • Baggage delay insurance – The card will reimburse for you essential purchases in case your luggage gets delayed while traveling – up to $100 per day up to three days, for delays of six hours or longer.
  • Travel accident insurance – The card offers up to $500,000 in coverage for accidental death or dismemberment while traveling.
  • Auto rental collision damage waiver – The card offers secondary coverage (coverage that applies in case another policy doesn’t apply) for theft or damage to a rental car purchased with the card.
  • Roadside dispatch – You can call 24-hour roadside service through the card (for a fee) if you have roadside emergency.

While this is a fair list of protections, if you’re looking for a card to cover you in case of travel emergencies, you may be better off searching for a card that offers broader travel protections, particularly trip cancellation and interruption insurance (The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is a good option).

Customer experience

The Amazon Prime Rewards card is issued through Chase bank, which has a fairly good record on customer service. Chase recently scored 809 on J.D. Power’s 2020 customer satisfaction, coming in fourth place out of 11 major issuers. The Chase mobile app also rates well with its users, scoring a 4.8 out of 5 on the Apple Store and 4.4 out of 5 on Google Play store. Chase offers convenient, round-the-clock customer service for its cardholders. One drawback: Chase doesn’t include mobile chat on its website – a loss for cardholders seeking to get a simple question answered quickly.

Is this card the same as the Amazon Store card?

The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card is not the same as the Amazon Store card. To some shoppers’ confusion, Amazon also offers a store card that includes special Amazon financing and a 5% bonus on Amazon purchases when you subscribe to Amazon Prime. The Amazon Store card is not a general-purpose credit card – it can only be used on Amazon purchases – is issued by a different bank (Synchrony) and features a much higher APR, so cardholders should take care not to mix the two cards up when applying.

Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card

With the 3% back at Amazon and Whole Foods, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card offers the next highest earning rate on Amazon purchases. It also features most of the same travel and purchase protections as the Amazon Prime card, including no foreign transaction fee, all for no annual fee.

Discover it Cash Back

For three quarters of the year, the Discover it Cash Back card only offers 1% cash back on Amazon purchases, but in the fourth quarter of 2021, the Discover it Cash Back is a winning proposition for Amazon purchases – especially for new cardholders. If you remember to enroll in the category that quarter, you will receive 5% back on your Amazon purchases, on up to $1,500 in purchases (then 1%). And, since Discover matches your cash back at the end of your first year of card membership, new cardholders can essentially earn 10% cash back on Amazon purchases in the fourth quarter.

Chase Freedom Unlimited (along with other Ultimate Rewards cards)

The Chase Freedom Unlimited card can’t compete with the Amazon Prime or Amazon Rewards Visa’s rewards rate on Amazon purchases. However, if you’re not up for applying to the Amazon card and – especially if you’d rather earn points than cash back – you should consider applying for the Chase Freedom Unlimited card. If you pair it with other cards in the Chase Ultimate Rewards family, including a Chase Freedom card and a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve card – you can boost your overall earning rate, get a 25% to 50% bonus, respectively, on travel redemptions through Chase Ultimate Rewards, transfer points to outside travel partners, and enjoy a host of great travel benefits, including lounge access through the Chase Sapphire Reserve card.

Why should you get the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card?

  • You’re already an Amazon Prime member.
  • You shop frequently enough on Amazon to justify the ongoing cost of a $119 Amazon Prime membership.
  • You shop frequently at Whole Foods (especially if you spend more than $2,380 per year there).
  • You spend a lot on restaurant and gas purchases.
  • You’re a frequent traveler, who can take advantage of the card’s travel benefits, including the waived foreign transaction fees.
  • You often shop on foreign websites and would benefit from the lack of a foreign transaction fee for those purchases.

How to use the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card:

  • Sign up for an Amazon Prime membership to apply for the card.
  • Use the Prime card for all your Amazon and Whole Foods purchases to earn the 5% bonus rate and take advantage of the purchase protections.
  • Use your points at checkout on Amazon – you can instantly apply them with no minimum points required.
  • You can use this card when you travel in foreign countries or shop on foreign sites without racking up foreign transaction fees.
  • Use an online shopping portal such as eBates to stack up extra cash back on your Amazon purchases (yes, the rewards do stack with your card rewards).

Our Take

The Amazon Prime rewards card amazon rewards chase credit card login no annual fee and the eligibility requirements aren't particularly stringent. Applicants with a "fair" credit score (approximately 580 or higher) stand a good chance of being approved.

Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card Review

The Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card is a straightforward cash-back credit card with no annual fee. It’s designed for habitual Amazon shoppers who spend freely with the retail giant and its grocery subsidiary, Whole Foods Market. It also has above-average rewards for people who dine out often, drive heavily, and regularly make purchases at drugstores such as Walgreens and CVS.

The easiest way to redeem cash back earned with this card is for instant discounts on purchases from Amazon.com. However, the card and its rewards program are managed by Chase, so users have access to the same expansive menu of cash-back redemption options afforded to other Chase cardholders, including statement credits, travel expense reimbursement, gift cards, and general merchandise.

This card boasts a standard slate of Visa Signature benefits, but it’s otherwise a decidedly no-frills piece of plastic. If you pay $119 per year for an Amazon Prime membership, look into the similar Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card, which earns up to 5% cash back on eligible Amazon and Whole Foods purchases.

    Key Features

These are the top features of the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card.

    Earning Cash -Back Rewards

This card earns unlimited 3% cash back on all Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market purchases. Purchases at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores earn unlimited 2% cash back. All other purchases earn an unlimited 1% cash back.

    Redeeming Cash-Back Rewards

You can redeem your accumulated cash back for instant discounts on Amazon purchases, with no minimum to redeem. This is known as Amazon’s Shop With Points feature, and it’s the easiest way to redeem your cash back.

You can also redeem for actual cash back (statement credits) at Chase’s Ultimate Rewards portal, plus gift cards, general merchandise, and travel (including airfare, hotels, rental cars, and more). For non-Amazon redemptions, minimum point requirements can vary, but they generally don’t exceed 2,500 points.

    Important Fees

This card has no annual fee. The foreign transaction fee is 3%.

    Credit Required

This card requires good to excellent credit. Any notable blemishes in your credit history are likely to disqualify your application.

    Advantages

    1. No Annual Fee. The Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card has no annual fee, meaning there’s no financial penalty for keeping it in your wallet for occasional use. That’s great news for frugal cardholders who don’t spend enough at Amazon or elsewhere to offset a recurring annual charge.
    2. Excellent Rewards on Amazon and Whole Foods Purchases. This card earns 3% cash back on all Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market purchases. That’s an excellent top earning rate. And, because you can buy pretty much anything from Amazon, it’s theoretically possible to earn 3% cash back on the bulk of your card spending.
    3. Above-Average Rewards in Popular Categories. On top of the 3% cash-back earning rate on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases, this card offers above-average cash-back earnings on three popular spending categories: restaurants, drugstores, and gas stations. If you pair your Amazon or Whole Foods shopping habit with occasional (or frequent) meals out and lots of driving, these categories will serve you well.
    4. Smooth Redemption Process. It’s super easy to redeem cash back earned with this card. In fact, you can do so with no effort at all when you check out on Amazon. If you prefer to redeem for general statement credits, gift cards, or travel, simply log into Chase’s rewards portal and state your preference. There are no hoops to jump through and, in most cases, no minimum redemption requirements.
    5. No Penalty APR. This card has no penalty APR, which is great news for cardholders who occasionally miss payments due to temporary liquidity issues. Many popular cash-back credit cards carry penalty APRs that reach as high as 30% and last indefinitely once a payment due date has been missed.

    Disadvantages

    1. No Introductory Promotions. The Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card doesn’t offer a 0% introductory APR promotion for purchases or balance transfers. That’s a big drawback relative to many competing cash-back cards. For example, Citi Double Cash has an 18-month 0% APR promotion on balance transfers.
    2. No Sign-Up Bonus. The Amazon Rewards Visa Card occasionally runs sign-up promotions, but there’s presently no offer on the table. That’s a significant drawback relative to other popular cash-back credit cards. Competitors such as Chase Freedom and Capital One Quicksilver have much larger bonuses.
    3. Few Fringe Benefits. This card’s main attraction is its fairly generous cash-back program. It has virtually no additional benefits other than the standard slate of Visa Signature perks. If you’re looking for a credit card with attractive perks, such as complimentary rental car insurance and baggage protection for travelers, look to competing cards such as Chase Sapphire Preferred.
    4. Has a Foreign Transaction Fee. This card has a 3% foreign transaction fee. That’s a big drawback for cardholders who frequently travel abroad, perhaps on road trips to Mexico or Canada or international vacations farther away.

    Final Word

The Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card doesn’t have the simplest cash-back rewards program ever. It earns 3% back on Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market purchases; 2% back on restaurants, drugstores, and gas stations; and 1% cash back on everything else. Some competing cards offer flat cash-back rates on all purchases, no matter the category.

However, the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card’s purpose is straightforward: to reward frequent Amazon.com and Whole Foods shoppers who also eat out and drive often, and who like credit card rewards programs that make redeeming rewards as easy as possible. If that sounds like you, give this card a closer look.

Is the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card right for you? Why or why not?
