Can you get a business card without a business?

Business credit cards offer some unique perks you can’t always get with personal credit cards, including bigger sign-up bonuses and specialized rewards categories. But are you eligible if you work for yourself as an independent contractor or freelancer, or have an occasional side gig?

In most cases, the answer is yes. To get approved for a business credit card you just need to be earning some money independently.

Here’s what you need to know about applying for a business credit card when you don’t have a traditional business.

Qualifying work for a business credit card

You may be more of an entrepreneur than you think. Any income-producing endeavor may be considered a legitimate business for a business credit card. Just a few examples of common nontraditional ventures include:

  • Running a dog-walking business in your neighborhood
  • Buying and selling on eBay
  • Working as a virtual assistant
  • Driving for ridesharing apps, like Uber or Lyft
  • Delivering food with app-based companies, like DoorDash or Grubhub
  • Tutoring kids in person or online
  • Buying and selling antiques
  • Independent consulting work
  • Selling homemade items at markets or online (such as on Etsy or Facebook Marketplace)
  • Working as an entertainer
  • Freelance writing and editing
  • Building websites
  • Managing social media sites

In short, if you earn money from the work you do, you may be able to qualify for a business credit card.

Best business credit cards for nontraditional businesses

Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express Card: Best for travel and car-related gigs

Amex’s Marriott Bonvoy Business card offers 4X points when you fuel up at U.S. gas stations, so if you’re driving people or products around all day, the rewards will accumulate fast. But that’s not all. You’ll get 6X points for eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels, and 4X at restaurants, shipping providers, and on wireless phone services. Everything else will earn you 2X points.

When you’re on the road, you can take advantage of the “Free Night Award” that you get every year after your card anniversary (worth up to 35,000 points)—and an additional free night after you charge $60,000 in a calendar year. Limited time offer: Earn 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points & 2 bonus free night awards after you use your new card to make $5,000 in eligible purchases within the first 3 months. Each bonus free night award has a redemption level up to 50K points. Certain hotels have resort fees. Offer ends 11/3/2021.

This card comes with an annual fee of $125 and a variable APR of 15.74 percent to 24.74 percent.

Chase Ink Business Cash® Credit Card: Best for creative work

If your business involves making and selling things, a card option that allows you to purchase a wide variety of items and get heavily rewarded for charging them will be right up your alley. The Chase Ink Business Cash® card offers 5 percent cash back on the first $25,000 you spend at office supply stores (as well as on Internet, cable and phone services) each year, so review all the items you may need from the qualifying office supply stores to see if it’s a good fit. You can purchase anything for your business, including paper, design services, photo and printing, as well as things for your home office to create the perfect environment to inspire.

You’ll also get 2 percent cash back on the first $25,000 at gas stations and restaurants each account anniversary year, and 1 percent back on all other purchases. The $750 welcome bonus after you spend $7,500 on purchases in the first three months can buy a lot of yarn or paint, too.

This card comes with no annual fee and a variable APR of 13.24 percent to 19.24 percent.

Amazon Business Prime American Express Credit Card: Best for online shopping enterprises

If your business involves big spending on items from the world’s largest online retailer, the Amazon Business Prime Amex might make a lot of sense. It allows you to earn 5 percent back on purchases at Amazon Business, AWS, Amazon.com and Whole Foods. You’ll get 2 percent back at U.S. restaurants, U.S. gas stations and on wireless telephone services, and 1 percent back on all other purchases.

This card comes with a variable APR of 14.24 percent to 22.24 percent but offers an interesting option to forgo rewards in favor of a 90-day 0 percent APR on purchases (followed by 14.24 percent to 22.24 percent variable). This may come in very handy if income is temporarily reduced. The $125 Amazon.com gift card you receive after being approved without having to meet a minimum spend is a nice touch, as well as no annual fee.

The Business Platinum Card® from American Express: Best for meeting distant clients

Maybe your business involves a substantial amount of air travel. For business travelers, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express is a very popular choice. It’s a charge card, so you do need to pay off your balance in full every month, though there is also a “Pay Over Time” feature that allows you to pay incrementally in some situations (0 percent intro APR for purchases for 12 months from account opening, then 14.24 percent to 22.24 percent variable APR).

You’ll pay a $595 annual fee ($695 if your application is received on or after 1/13/2022) to carry this card, but in return the rewards and benefits are impressive. You will earn 5X points on flights and prepaid hotel bookings through AmexTravel.com, enjoy an annual $200 airline fee statement credit, up to $179 back per year on Clear membership and elite status with Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors. You’ll also enjoy top-rate airport lounge access.

Credits worth up to $1,000 will also be yours every year, including up to $400 with Dell Technologies, up to $360 with Indeed, up to $150 with Adobe, and up to $120 on wireless telephone purchases (enrollment required). To top it off, you’ll enjoy 100,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases within the first three months of opening the card.

Why get a business credit card instead of a personal credit card?

There are a variety of reasons to obtain a business credit card for your business:

Rewards on business expenses

Chances are good you have some business-related expenses you could be earning travel rewards or cash back on. For example, as a carshare or delivery driver, you may need to cover your own gas, as well as pay for the maintenance and repairs on your vehicle. If you’re selling crafts or artwork, you’ll probably need to purchase supplies.

Whatever your costs are, you can earn cash, points, or miles if the card has a rewards program. If the account offers a sign-up bonus to new cardholders, you’ll also earn a big bonus by meeting a minimum spending requirement within the first few months of account opening.

Keep personal and business spending separate

A separate business credit card can help you remain organized. Not only will you have a better handle on your spending, having all of your expenses on the business credit card will help when you have to pay your taxes.

Build your business credit score

While your personal credit score is considered when you apply for a business credit card, you can create a business credit history when your credit issuer furnishes data to the three major commercial credit bureaus—Dun & Bradstreet, Equifax and Experian. By keeping your accounts in good standing, you will improve your business credit score over time, making you more eligible for other business credit products.

Business perks

Many of the top business credit cards offer specialized perks, such as cellphone insurance and cash credits for business-related products and services. It pays to get the right card for your enterprise.

What to look out for in a business credit card

Although business credit cards provide plenty of advantages, there are a few potential downsides. For example, business credit cards with the most perks can charge high annual fees. If you’re unsure about how often you’ll be charging or whether or not you’ll really use the perks, consider a business credit card that does not charge an annual fee.

And, of course, every card you get must be handled properly, and management takes time and attention. You must be sure you will maintain a low balance so fees don’t eat into your proceeds, and pay the bills on time to protect your credit rating.

How to apply for a business credit card

If you have a registered business, including an LLC, you’ll apply using your business information, including your Federal Tax ID number, which is also called an Employer Identification Number (EIN). If you run your business without a formal business setup, you can simply apply as a sole proprietor with your Social Security number instead.

Either way, prepare to submit the following information:

  • Your annual business income
  • The length of your business since inception
  • The industry your business is in
  • Your role in the company
  • How many employees you have (if any)
  • Your business address, even if it’s your home address
  • Your business phone number, even if it’s your personal phone

Depending on the card, you may have to mail in supporting documents to prove you have a business. This may include information from the Internal Revenue Service that proves your Tax ID number, or income information. In most circumstances, though, you’ll receive notice of approval within a few seconds of applying online.

The bottom line

With so many benefits and perks, business credit cards can be just what you need to manage your costs while making your work life easier and more profitable. Whatever your business is, from a casual part-time gig to a full-time freelance profession, the right business credit card will help you stay on track and get ahead.

Chase has some fantastic credit cards.

For a personal card, Chase Sapphire Preferred is strongest (or the Chase Sapphire Reserve if you want true luxury). You get 60,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 in purchases within the first three months. You also get 5x points on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards, 3x points on other travel, 1x on everything else (plus a $50 annual Ultimate Rewards Hotel Credit). $95 annual fee.

For my business, I love the Chase Ink Business Preferred because of its generous rewards structure. If you do any advertising online, you need this credit card. This reward structure is on top of the 100,000 bonus points after you spend $15,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening in the .

With cards this good, and sign up bonuses this rich, everyone wants these cards.

But not everyone can get them.

If Chase rejects your credit card application, you can have it manually reviewed. Sometimes you don’t qualify. Sometimes they need more information. Read on to find out if there’s a way you can get them to reconsider your application.

How Do You Know If You’re Rejected

Three things can happen after you submit your Chase credit card applications:

  • You see a message that your application was approved – Congratulations!
  • You see a message that your application was denied – sorry 🙁
  • You see a message that your application is “under review” and you’ll hear back in 30 days.

Chase reviews ever application.

Sometimes approval is near instant. That’s when you get the approval message and can expect your card in the mail in about 7-10 days.

And sometimes the denial is near instant. That’s when you’ll want to prepare yourself for a phone call.

How to Check Application Status

If you weren’t insta-approved, you can check your “application status.” The quickest way is to log into your account. In the menu, there is an application status section.

If you prefer the phone, you can call the automated status line by dialing 800-436-7927.

If you call, Chase may direct you to speak to a representative. If this concerns you, don’t call to check. You can check by logging in and that will never result in a chat. 🙂

When I applied for a Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card, I was initially put into review. Chase called me to confirm a few business details before they approved my application.

I was never rejected. Being placed under review does not mean you’re denied. It means they need more time and information.

In reality, Chase told me to call them. If anyone calls you and says they’re Chase, immediately hang up and call the number on your card. It doesn’t matter if the number that shows up matches the customer service number.

Scammers can “spoof” (fake) that number. You want to always call the number yourself.

If Chase rejects your applications, you can call the reconsideration line.

Before you call, here are cases where a call will NOT WORK: (know this before you apply next time!)

  • Chase “5/24 Rule” – For Chase credit cards, there’s a 5/24 Rule. They will not approve you for a new card if you have applied for 5 or more new cards in the last 24 months. They think you have too many credit cards!
  • Chase “2/30 Rule” – Chase will only approve up to two credit cards every rolling thirty day period. If you try for a third, they will not approve it.
  • No Duplicate Card Rule – You can’t get two of the same card. This applies to certain card types too, like the Chase Sapphire. You can’t get the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Reserve, only one.
  • 24-Month Sign Up Bonus Rule – This is a rule regarding sign up bonuses. You cannot get a sign up bonus more than one time every 24 month period. If you got it within the last 2 years, you will not be eligible to get it again. If you got the bonus over 2 years ago but still have the card, they will reject you until you cancel your active card. If you cancel, wait at least 60 days before applying again (we learned this from our Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards card strategy for Companion Pass).
  • 48-Month Sign Up Bonus Rule – Sadly, some cards have increased their waiting period to 48 months. The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is one of these cards with a 48 month waiting period, the terms and conditions state: “The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.”

Sadly, there’s no getting around those rules.

The Chase reconsideration phone number line for Personal cards is 1-888-270-2127.

They’re open Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 10PM and Saturday to Sunday from 8 AM – 8 PM.

The Chase reconsideration phone number line for Business cards is 1-800-453-9719.

They’re open Monday to Friday from 1PM to 10PM. No weekends.

If you haven’t heard from them and want to talk to someone, you can call:

  • Chase Customer Service: 800-432-3117
  • Chase Application Status: 800-436-7927

During a reconsideration call, you want to explain to the representative why you want this new card and give them a good reason. Maybe you like the benefits of the new card over your old cards. Maybe you signed up because of the partnership with an airline or hotel partner and you use them a lot, you want to increase your status or are planning a big trip.

They will also verify any information you provided on the application, like income. This is especially true for business cards. They want to make sure you have a legitimate business. Be prepared to answer questions about your business.

Finally, if things don’t appear to be going well, you can ask them what you need to do to get approved. They may tell you!

Here are some common strategies for getting approved:

  • Move around your credit. If you have too high a total credit limit at Chase, they may balk at giving you more. Ask if you can shift your credit around to the new card.
  • Improve your credit score. Perhaps your score is on the border of what they’d accept at this time, try these techniques for increasing your credit score and re-apply later. Ask them when you should try back.

More on the Chase 5/24 Rule

The Chase 5/24 is not written down anywhere. People first stumbled on it in the terms and conditions of a Chase card but it was later removed. It’s unwritten but well known.

The rule applies to personal and business cards. If you have 1 business card and 4 personal cards, Chase will not approve you for any other Chase cards. They’re want to avoid those applicants who are only collecting bonuses.

The last gotcha is that if you are an authorized user on a Chase card that card counts towards the five. If you’re a spouse or employee and authorized on that card, it counts.

The best way to find out your count is to look at your credit report. This will also tell you when you opened those accounts for the 24-month rule.

I use the Waterfall Method for monitoring my credit reports but there are some services where you can check your credit scores for free. Those services may list your cards and opening dates, so you don’t have to use up one of your free annual credit report checks.

Some Additional Tips

If the bonus on a card goes up within ~90 days, call and ask Chase to bump up your bonus to match the new offer.

They may not do it but we’ve read plenty of reports of folks who have had good success with this. Never hurts to ask!

Increasing the bonus may increase your spending requirements, to match the newer promotion, but it may mean more points!

If you want to get the card as soon as possible, cask Chase to overnight the card. They probably will.

Enjoy the new card and good luck!

There are three Chase business credit cards. They each offer employee cards at no additional cost to help you earn rewards faster on your business purchases. But the three cards have their differences, too.

  1. Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card
  2. Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
  3. Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card

What you need to know about each card

Here’s what you need to know about each Chase business credit card before choosing one.

Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card

The Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card is all about simplicity. With this card, you’ll earn an unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase that you make.

You can redeem your rewards as cash back or use the Chase Ultimate Rewards® portal to redeem them for gift cards, travel and more.

The Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card offers a $750 sign-up bonus after you spend $7,500 on purchases within your first 3 months from account opening with the card. And it comes with an intro 0% purchase APR for 12 months, which could be helpful if you’re hoping to finance a large business purchase. After that, the regular APR for purchases and balance transfers is a variable 13.24% - 19.24%. There’s no intro APR offer for balance transfers.

Ink Business Cash® Credit Card

The Ink Business Cash® Credit Card offers many of the same benefits that come with the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card, including …

  • No annual fee
  • 0% intro purchase APR for 12 months, followed by a regular variable APR of 13.24% - 19.24% on purchases and balance transfers. There’s no intro APR offer for balance transfers.
  • $750 sign-up bonus if you spend $7,500 on purchases within your first 3 months with the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card
  • Access to the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, where you can redeem rewards for cash back, travel and more

But these cards are different in how cardholders earn rewards. With the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, you’ll earn 5% cash back on your first $25,000 spent in combined purchases in the following business categories each account year:

  • Office supply stores
  • Internet, cable and phone services

Additionally, you’ll earn 2% cash back on your first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and restaurants each account year. You’ll earn 1% cash back on all other purchases.

Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card

With the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card , you’ll earn three points per $1 on your first $150,000 spent on combined purchases in the following bonus categories:

  • Travel
  • Shipping
  • Internet, cable and phone services
  • Advertising purchases made with social media sites and search engines

You’ll earn one point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

This card also comes with an impressive sign-up bonus: You’ll earn 100,000 bonus points if you spend at least $15,000 on purchases within 3 months of opening your account.

The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card differs from the other two Chase business credit cards in several ways. First, it’s the only one that charges an annual fee: $95. Second, it’s the only one of the Chase Ink Business credit cards that doesn’t charge a foreign transaction fee.

The third difference is in how you can redeem your points. Your Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card points are worth 25% more when you redeem them for travel on the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, unlike the other two cards. This means that your 100,000 bonus points could be worth more than $1,250 in travel rewards. Also, the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card allows cardholders to transfer points to any Chase travel partner.

How to pick the right card for you

The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card credit card offers the best value overall, especially if you travel a lot. It offers a 25% bonus on Chase Ultimate Rewards travel redemptions, allows transfers to travel partners and doesn’t charge a foreign transaction fee.

It’s also the only Chase business card that offers bonus points on travel, shipping and social media advertising purchases. And its sign-up bonus is the best of the three cards.

But if you don’t want to pay an annual fee or you’re looking for a 0% intro purchase APR offer, you may want to consider the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card instead. It could also be a good choice if you’re looking for a smaller minimum spending requirement to earn a sign-up bonus, or if your business spends a lot each year on office supplies, gas and restaurants.

Don’t think you’ll be able to take full advantage of the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card bonus categories? In that case, you may prefer a flat-rate cash back card like the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card. Its flat 1.5% cash back means you earn cash back on all of your purchases without having to deal with the hassle of remembering which bonus categories earn what.

But keep in mind that you don’t necessarily need a Chase business credit card to earn 1.5% cash back. For example, with the consumer-friendly Chase Freedom Unlimited®, you’ll earn at a base rate of 1.5% cash back all purchases.

And other flat-rate rewards business cards, like the Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business, offer 2% cash back on all purchases.

How to Apply for a Chase Business Credit Card

You want to get a new credit card, but the one you want is a business credit card from Chase, and you're unsure of how to apply for a Chase business credit card.

Business credit cards function much in the same way as personal credit cards do, and Chase offers some of the best business credit cards out there with their Chase Ink business line, especially if you're looking for rewards. However, there are some key differences when it comes to qualifying and applying. Here we'll touch on the specifics of the best Chase credit cards, how to qualify for a business credit card, and then walk you through how to apply for a Chase business credit card.

What you need to know about Chase business credit cards and the 5/24 rule

If you want to apply for a Chase business credit card, you need to know about theChase 5/24 rule. This rule says you can't be approved for a Chase credit card if you've opened five or more credit cards in the past 24 months. Even its business credit cards are subject to this rule, so if you have opened more than four accounts within the past two years, you'll have to wait before you can apply.

The good news is that while Chase's business credit cards are subject to the 5/24 rule, they don't add to it. That is to say, if you apply for a Chase business credit card, it won't count toward your 5/24 limit. That's because Chase reports business credit cards to commercial rather than consumer credit bureaus -- in other words, they don't show up on your personal credit report.

Can anyone apply for a Chase business credit card?

If you're hoping to apply for a Chase business credit card, the requirements are much less strict than you'd think. You do have to have an eligible business, but there's a good chance that you're already partaking in a profit-generating activity that could count as a business. This is the case with most credit card companies. Anything from hobbies to side hustles can qualify, such as these common gigs.

  • Driving for Uber or Lyft
  • Selling things on Etsy
  • Reselling items on eBay
  • Selling things at craft fairs, farmers' markets, or flea markets
  • Freelancing
  • Airbnb rentals
  • Doing nails or hair out of your home
  • Flipping used furniture
  • Babysitting and tutoring

In fact, you don't have to have actually started your profit-generating activity yet to apply for a Chase business credit card, as long as you genuinely intend to start soon. Getting a business credit card now is a great way to plan ahead. Just remember, never lie on a credit card application; you may be asked to verify any information you provide.

Why you should apply for a Chase business credit card

Business credit cards are a great way to separate out your finances, whether you're running a full-scale business with employees or simply selling stuff on eBay as a side gig. You can do this with a business checking account and debit card as well, but using a business credit card can help you build business credit and avoid monthly maintenance fees. The fact that business credit cards don't show up on your personal credit history is a plus, and building your business credit will prove useful if you ever want to take out a small business loan or get business insurance. This is reason alone to apply for a Chase business credit card.

On top of that, Chase business credit cards are particularly desirable as rewards credit cards when compared to other credit card companies. First of all, a Chase business card will have business-related bonus spending categories that offer extra rewards. If your company or side gig means you spend a lot on expenses like transportation, dining out with clients, internet and phone bills, or printing and advertising services, you could apply for a Chase business credit card and accumulate rewards much faster. When compared to Chase's personal credit cards, its business credit cards also offer some of the most high-value sign-up bonuses for the same, or even no, annual fee.

How to apply for a Chase business credit card

Applications for a Chase business card are pretty simple, but there are some areas where people get confused. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to apply for a Chase business credit card.

Business information

When you apply for a Chase business credit card, the first page will ask for basic information about your business such as a name, mailing address, and annual revenue. If you are a freelancer or someone with a side gig with no employees, you are considered a sole proprietor, which is what you'll put under "Type of Business." You'd also put "1" under the "Number of Employees" field, which would be you.

You can use your own name as your business name and your personal mailing address. You'll need to estimate your annual business revenue here, and this can be projected revenue for the upcoming year, so estimate on the high side. Don't worry if you're not making much. The bank will also consider your personal income.

Under "tax identification number," you can put your EIN (Employer Identification Number) if you have one, or you can simply use your own Social Security number.

Personal information

The following page will ask for your personal information, much like a regular credit card application. As a sole proprietor, you'll identify as the "Owner" under the "Authorizing Officer" field. You'll need to provide your name, home address, and gross annual income. Your gross annual income can include income from your job, from your business, and from your spouse.

The following page will ask for your phone number (business and personal can be the same), your email address, date of birth, Social Security number, and mother's maiden name.

Employee cards

Finally, the final page when you apply for a Chase business credit card will give you the option to add employee cards. You don't have to do this, but if you do have someone trustworthy who might purchase things for your business on occasion, employee cards are a great way to help you meet your minimum spending limit for the sign-up bonus. Make sure you trust the cardholders, though, because you're on the hook for any charges they make.

Waiting for approval

Once you submit the final page, you'll receive a page that either tells you that you were approved, denied, or your application is being processed. The last option is the most likely. In this case, you will likely receive a decision within a week, although the stated wait period is 30 days. You might be contacted and asked to provide more information about your business during this time. You can also call Chase's automated status line at 1-800-432-3117 at any time to check on the progress of your application.

How to get approved for a Chase business credit card

There's no way to guarantee approval when you apply for a Chase business credit card, but there are some things you can do to improve your chances. Here are some tips.

Increase your credit score: Your credit score should be at least 680 when you apply for a Chase business credit card, but having a score of 720 or higher will give you the best chances.

Decrease your credit limit with Chase: Chase doesn't like to extend too much credit to any one customer as compared to their income, and it's very common to be denied because you already have large credit limits. In general, your overall credit limit with Chase across all of your personal and business credit cards shouldn't exceed 50% of your income or $75,000. If you're coming close to either of those limits, ask for a credit limit decrease on one of your existing Chase credit cards before applying for a Chase business card.

Space out your credit card applications: Chase doesn't like to see lots of recent inquiries. Aside from not going over 5/24, you also won't be approved if you've opened a Chase credit card in the past 30 days. If you've opened up four or five Chase credit cards in the past six months, it's best to wait a while before you apply for a Chase business credit card.

Apply in-branch: People who apply for a Chase business credit card in-branch rather than online tend to have a better shot at approval, and they also tend to receive bigger sign-up offers. If you have a branch near you, it's worth going in and applying in person.

Wait until you've been in business longer: While you don't have to have a 10-year-old business generating six figures to be approved for a Chase business credit card, rejection is common for people who have been in business for a short period of time and have low revenue. People who have been in business for at least two years and generate at least $2,000 in revenue have a better chance of approval.

What to do if you're denied for a Chase business credit card

If you're denied when you apply for a Chase business credit card, there is still hope. You can call its reconsideration line at 1-888-270-2127 to speak with someone about your application. Often, Chase just needs a little more information about your business or wants to verify something in order to approve you. Below are some common questions a representative may ask you.

  • What type of business are you running?
  • How many years has your business been in operation?
  • Why do you want a business credit card?
  • What type of expenses will you be putting on this credit card?
  • How much revenue did your business generate last year?
  • How do you market your business?

Upon answering these questions, you may find that Chase reverses its decision and approves you for a new Chase business credit card. It may also still deny you, but you'll be given a reason so that you can improve your chances of approval next time.

The best Chase business credit cards: Chase Ink Business Preferred℠ vs. Chase Ink Business Cash℠

Both of the Chase Ink business cards are great options for business credit cards that offer high-value rewards. The Chase Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card is more geared toward travel rewards, while theChase Ink Business Cash℠ is geared toward cash back. It's also worth noting that the Chase Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card has a $95 annual fee while the Chase Ink Business Cash℠ has no annual fee and a generous sign-up bonus.

That being said, the Chase Ink Business Preferred℠ has the highest sign-up bonus of any Chase card: 100,000 Ultimate Rewards® points (100,000 if you apply in-branch) after spending $15,000 within the first three months. This is worth $1,250 in travel spending when you book through Chase's Ultimate Rewards® portal, and you can easily get more value out of it by transferring your Ultimate Rewards® points to other airlines or hotels within Chase's network.

Whichever card you apply for, you'll be in line for great rewards and will have the ability to easily split up your personal and business expenses. Even if you can't qualify just yet, it's good to know what you can do to increase your future chances.

Types of Business Credit Cards

Credit cards for small businesses are as varied in type as their consumer counterparts. In fact, many consumer credit cards have a business-card sibling, typically with similar features and rewards.

As with personal cards, the choices in business cards run the gamut from no-frills/no-fee options to rewards cards with complex tiered rewards based on travel, airline, issuer, or hotel loyalty programs.

Here's a quick primer on the main card types available to small business owners:

Business airline credit cards: These cards offer rewards—usually in miles—for regular card spending, along with bonus miles for purchases from their co-branded airline. Miles earned with the card are pooled with those earned by flying. The cards may also offer benefits such as early boarding, a free checked bag, or discounts on in-flight purchases.

Pros
  • Ability to earn airline-specific miles on a favored carrier

  • Bonus miles usually offered for airline purchases and other travel-focused categories, like dining or hotels

  • Often confers elite status in the airline's frequent-flyer program

Cons
  • Annual fees are often high

  • Limited options for redeeming or transferring miles

Business hotel credit cards: Similar to their airline counterparts, these cards offer rewards—usually in points—for regular card spending, along with bonus miles for purchases from their co-branded hotel chain. Points earned with the card are pooled with those earned through hotel or resort stays.

Pros
  • Ability to earn bonus points at preferred hotel chain on hotel nights and other spending

  • Often confers elite status in the hotel's loyalty program

Cons
  • Annual fees can be high

  • Limited options for redeeming or transferring points

Often, Chase just needs a little more information about your business can you get benefits for anxiety wants to verify something in order to approve you.

If you weren’t insta-approved, you can check your “application status.” The quickest way is chase ink business credit card application status log into your account.

If you have chase ink business credit card application status business card and 4 personal cards, Chase will not approve you for any other Chase cards.

Those services may list your cards and opening dates, so you don’t have to use up one of your first data merchant services number annual credit report checks.

  • 0% intro purchase APR for 12 months, followed by a regular variable Chase ink business credit card application status of 13.24% - 19.24% on purchases and balance transfers.

With the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card , you’ll earn three points per $1 on your first $150,000 spent travis trice combined purchases in the following bonus categories:

  • Travel

Also, the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card allows cardholders to transfer points to any Bank of america 24 hour customer service international travel partner.

What to Do If You Get Rejected for a Chase Credit Card

Have you ever applied for a credit card online and didn't instantly get approved? The first thing you need to check is if you were rejected or if they're still making a decision by calling the reconsideration line. A lot of people who aren't automatically approved assume they've been rejected.

If you're not instantly approved for a card, call the automated status line immediately to check the status of your application. The number may change in the future. h/t Doctor of Credit for the most updated list of recon numbers.

Reconsideration line phone number: 888-270-2127

Once you make the call, they're going to give you a message. If it says they'll let you know within 30 days, it means Chase has not processed the application yet. However, if the message says two weeks, this typically means you're approved. If it says 7-10 days, then it typically means you were rejected for the card.

Important note: these are based on phone messages and not email communication.

If you have the 7-10 day message, this likely means you were rejected. You can either wait for a letter or immediately call the frost bank san marcos hours line to see if they will approve you. Before calling the reconsideration line, there are two rules you need to be aware of:

1. Chase 5/24 - if you opened more than five credit card accounts within the past 24 months, you'll automatically be rejected.
2. Chase 2/30 - if you have more than two applications within the past 30 days, Chase will not approve you.

Reconsideration Line

When you call the reconsideration line, you're trying to convince the person on the other line to approve the application. You're usually speaking to a credit analyst, so be sure to call during business hours. These calls can vary drastically depending on what your credit profile looks like.

For example, my friend called the reconsideration line after applying for two Southwest credit cards on the same day and had to explain that they were aiming for Companion Pass. After explaining why they wanted the card, the analyst approved the card.

Again, depending on the specific reason the application is under review, your mileage may vary.

Another scenario is that Chase typically issues a total credit limit equivalent to half of your income. You may have to reallocate or lower the credit limits on some cards to get approved for a new card.

If you go through the reconsideration process and they still don't approve you, it might be worth hanging up and trying again a few hours or days later.

One other factor to consider is that if you are relatively new chase ink business credit card application status credit, it's hard to get approved for travel cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or the Chase Sapphire Reserve. If you get rejected, the strategy would be to build a relationship with Chase by getting a Chase Freedom for 3-9 months before applying for a higher tier card.
