Amazon launches new secured credit card for those with bad or no credit

Amazon this week unveiled a new secured credit card with Synchrony Bank, aimed at customers with bad or no credit history.

The card – called the Amazon Prime Store Card Credit Builder – requires a refundable security deposit, has no annual fee and offers Prime members 5% back on Amazon.com purchases. Consumer must make a deposit from $100 to $1,000, which determines their credit limit.

The card also features installment and special financing options on certain purchases.

It's also the first of its kind, said Ted Rossman, an industry analyst at CreditCards.com.

“Secured cards have long been a good way for people to build or rebuild credit, and a lot of banks offer them," he said. "But I've never seen a retailer offering one."

Is Amazon's card a good choice?

Managing a secured card is traditionally a good low-risk way to build positive credit history for those with blemished or no credit, said Matt Schulz, chief industry analyst at CompareCards.

In the U.S., 53 million people have no credit history and another 79 million have subprime credit, according to data analytics company FICO.

Improve your job: Beyond salary: How to negotiate benefits

“Secured cards are basically meant to be training wheels cards that people use when they're just getting started in order to help them build credit,” Schulz said.

Amazon’s new credit card also has some benefits that many secured cards don’t provide, such as a $10 Amazon gift card as a signup bonus, he said. But the credit card can only be used for Amazon purchases, Schulz added.

How does it help my credit?

Synchrony, the issuing bank behind the card, will report your payment history to the three national credit bureaus: TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. As a cardholder, you also have access to free credit score monitoring and credit advice.

“The program puts credit in the hands of people in a responsible way while giving customers access to tangible benefits such as tools to improve credit,” Angie Hu, a spokesperson for Synchrony told USA TODAY.

You could be upgraded to an unsecured card if you meet certain criteria and make payments on time for seven straight months, according to Amazon.

“If you are somebody who keeps your balances low, pays your bills on time every time, then it is possible that you could graduate to a new card pretty quickly,” Schulz said.

Drawbacks of the Amazon card

While Amazon's new card overall is a good option for consumers, the card still comes with a relatively high APR of 28.24%, Rossman said. The average median APR for retail cards is 25.64%, according to a CreditCards.com survey.

“Store cards typically charge higher rates in large part because they're easier to get,” Rossman said.

Both analysts said consumers need to be especially wary of the special financing with deferred interest on purchases that Amazon promotes. If you don't pay off the purchase before the promotional, no-interest period ends, you will owe back interest since the original purchase.

“If you buy something and you don't pay it off within that six months or 12 or 24 months, then you will likely get a bill for any interest that would have accrued on that account since the purchase date,” Schulz said.

1. You will earn 2 Points per dollar in eligible net purchases (net purchases are purchases minus credits and returns) that you charge. Account must be open and in good standing to earn and redeem rewards and benefits. Upon approval, refer to your Program Rules for additional information. You may not redeem Reward Points, and you will immediately lose all of your Reward Points, if your Account is closed to future transactions (including, but not limited to, due to Program misuse, failure to pay, bankruptcy, or death). Reward Points will not expire as long as your Account remains open. You may contact Elan Financial Services Customer Service at the toll-free phone number located on the back of your credit card and provide them with your eligible Fidelity® account (s) number. 2. Simply select the “Manage Reward Points” hyperlink from the credit card snapshot page on Fidelity.com and follow the easy steps. You may also watch a brief video that describes the linking process on the credit card snapshot page also found on Fidelity.com. Please note that automatic redemptions will occur on a monthly basis as long as you have reached the point redemption threshold of 2,500 Points.

4.

Eligible accounts include most nonretirement registrations as well as Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, Rollover IRA, SEP IRA, Fidelity Charitable® Giving Account®, Fidelity HSA®, and Fidelity®-managed 529 College Savings Plan accounts. The ability to contribute to an IRA or 529 college savings plan account is subject to IRS rules and specific program policies, including those on eligibility and annual and maximum contribution limits. For one, you can finally take that business trip you’ve had to put off. Two, you can make next year’s taxes much easier to manage if you keep your business and personal spending on separate accounts. And three, on a more exciting note, there are a number of huge exciting bonuses to earn!

For instance, the flexible Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card comes with the ability to earn 100,000 points worth $1,250 in travel or $1000 cash! You’ll earn 100,000 points after meeting the minimum spend of $15,000 in the first 3 months. Alternatively, if you’re loyal to Southwest, new Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Cardcardmembers can earn 80,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.

With a number of personal and business options, over 5,000 branches, and 16,000 ATMs nationwide, Chase Bank is one of the Big Four Banks in the United States. Chase also operates in more than 100 countries. It makes sense for business owners and employees to have a Chase business card.

best Chase business credit cards

I have my personal and business bank accounts with Chase so naturally, I have a Chase business credit card. But you don’t need to have a business checking account or an incorporated business to get a business credit card.

Having a business credit card can help you maximize your earning potential and separate personal spending from business spending in 2021.

Note that if you’re looking for the best Chase credit card(s) for consumers that also packs plenty of benefits, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® and Chase Sapphire Reserve® are just some of the options that come with many travel perks.

Both cards come with some of the best credit card offers.

Here is a preview of some of the best Chase business credit cards:

Currently, Chase has several business credit card offers, all with distinct rewards and benefits. Below is a list of the best Chase small business credit cards, with #1 being my personal favorite and the Chase business credit card I keep in my wallet.

Best Business Card Bonus: Ink Business Preferred Credit Card

You will earn 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $15,000 in the first 3 months of your card membership with the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. This is the best Chase business credit card sign-up bonus.

Chase Ink Preferred Business Credit Card Highlights:

  • 100K bonus points after you spend $15K in the first three months
  • Points are worth 25% more when you redeem for airfare, hotels, car rentals, and cruises through Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • 3x points when you spend in select business categories
  • $95 annual fee

Assessment:

The Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card is the last Chase business credit card I applied for because of its great 100,000 points bonus (worth $1,250 in award travel), 3x spending categories, earns Ultimate Rewards points, and is the perfect compliment to my Chase Sapphire Preferred. And hopefully, you don’t ever have to use it but the Ink Business Preferred review shows how this card comes with up to $1,800 in cell phone protection.

It also offers no foreign transaction fees, so if you do business internationally, this is a great business card to have. Here are 5 reasons Johnny got the Chase Ink Business Preferred and how it added value for him.

Cardholders can redeem points for cash back, gift cards, travel, and more (points are worth 25% more when redeemed for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards). Points don’t expire as long as the account is open. Additionally, cardholders get fraud protection and zero liability. Purchase protection covers new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft, up to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account.

Here’s how hard it is to get the Ink Business Preferred.

Best No Annual Fee Chase Business Card: Ink Business Cash Credit Card

The Ink Business Cash® Credit Card is the best no annual fee Chase business credit card, and it even comes with a $750 signup bonus after spending $7,500 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months.

Chase Ink Cash highlights:

  • 5% cash back on the first $25K spent on combined business expenses each account anniversary year, 2% cash back on the first $25K spend on combined gas stations and restaurants each account anniversary year, 1% cash back on all other purchases
  • No limit on cash back rewards, benefits don’t expire
  • No annual fee

Assessment:

The Chase Ink Cash is a great no annual fee business credit card since it comes with a $750 sign-up bonus. The ability to 5% cash back on select categories is also great. It does come with a lower sign-up bonus, and must hold a Reserve or Preferred Chase credit card in order to combine your points so can you transfer them out to an Ultimate Rewards transfer partner.

Additionally, cardholders may redeem rewards for cash back, gift cards, travel, and more through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal. Fraud protection is also included with the card as well as zero fraud liability. Ink Business Cash cardholders won’t be held responsible for unauthorized charges made with their card or with their account information.

    • car rental agencies
    • gas stations
    • internet, cable, and phone services
  • 2x points per $1 spent on fitness club and gym memberships
  • 1x point per $1 spent on everything else

New World of Hyatt Business Credit Card cardholders can earn 75,000 bonus points after spending $7,500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

There is a $199 annual fee but no foreign transaction fee.

Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card

The highlights:

  • 60K bonus points after you spend $3K in the first three months
  • Earn 3x points on Southwest purchases and points on all other purchases
  • 6K anniversary bonus points
  • No blackout dates, points don’t expire
  • $99 annual fee

Assessment:

The Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card offers points on every purchase with no blackout dates. Plus the 6K anniversary points bonus is a nice touch. The 60,000 point sign-up bonus is nice, especially if it helps get you the Southwest Companion Pass.

When you’re a budding entrepreneur, inevitably you’re going to reach that point when it makes sense to get a business credit card. This is a good problem to have as Southwest business credit cards can offer better benefits than your personal Southwest credit card.

Who Should Get a Business Card?

In the following cases, you should consider upgrading to a better credit card.

You Want to Track Business Expenses

The main reason to get a Chase business credit card is to quickly track your business spending. This makes filing your taxes easier as you don’t have to separate your business and personal expenses each month.

If you’re self-employed and only make a few monthly purchases, opening a new credit line or paying an annual fee for a card you rarely use might not be worth it. The annual fee can be tax-deductible, so it can still be worth it to pay for a better card if you use it regularly.

When you have multiple employee cards, business credit cards usually come with expense tracking software that makes bookkeeping easy. Plus, you can usually also monitor spending by employee.

The Purchase Rewards Are a Better Fit

Unless you get a flat rewards card, most tiered rewards business credit cards have bonus categories that cater to business spending. For instance, you might earn bonus points on social media advertising, shipping, or office supply store purchases.

You will find cards that offer bonus points on travel, dining, gas, or retail purchases. It’s also possible to get co-brand credit cards for retailers like Amazon or certain hotels and airlines including United Airlines credit cards.

When comparing purchase rewards, don’t forget to compare the additional card benefits.

You Qualify for the Chase Business Card Signup Bonus

Many Chase business credit card signup bonuses require you to spend more to qualify for the bonus than its personal credit card cousin. As a reward, the bonus values are more valuable.

For instance, the Chase Ink Business Preferred currently has the largest Ultimate Rewards signup bonus of 100,000 bonus points worth $1,250 in award travel after spending $15,000 in three months.

Once you can spend several thousand dollars during the qualifying period, look for the card with the most valuable bonus offer and the best ongoing purchase rewards and benefits to always maximize your spending habits.

Like personal credit cards, some Chase business credit cards periodically have limited-time credit card offers. You can try delaying your spending until the enhanced bonus is available. Another option is going for new cards when they first launch as those tend to be the highest bonus offers to attract a large group of users.

Before trying for the card, make sure you read the terms and conditions to make sure you qualify for the business. You might not qualify if you have owned this card or a similar product in the last 24 months.

Comparing Chase Business Credit Cards

Chase offers a robust selection of small business credit cards. The Ink credit card lineup earns Chase Ultimate Rewards that you can redeem for travel, cash, and gift cards.

Frequent flyers may also enjoy the opportunity to earn Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards or United Airlines miles with the other cards.

Below is a quick overview of the various spending categories to maximize your purchase power:

Ink Business Preferred Credit Card

Earn 3 Ultimate Rewards per $1 on the first $150,000 (then 1 point per $1) in combined annual purchases on:

  • Travel
  • Shipping purchases
  • Internet, cable, and phone services
  • Search engine and social media advertising

All remaining purchases earn 1 point per $1 with the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card.

You can redeem your points for cash, travel, or gift cards. Travel rewards are the most valuable as you earn a 25% redemption bonus when booking travel on Chase. Or you can transfer them on a 1:1 basis to transfer partners like Southwest Airlines and United Airlines.

Before you try to get the card, know that Chase will employ its notorious “5/24 Rule” to automatically decline your application if you have five new credit cards in the most recent 24 months.

Amazon to stop accepting Visa's UK-issued credit cards over high fees

Nov 17 (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O)will stop accepting Visa Inc (V.N) credit cards issued in the United Kingdom from next year because of the high transaction fees charged by the payment processor, the e-commerce giant said on Wednesday.

"As a result of Visa's continued high cost of payments, we regret that Amazon.co.uk will no longer accept UK-issued Visa credit cards as of 19 January, 2022," an Amazon spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Amazon customers can still use Visa debit cards, Mastercard and Amex credit cards, and Eurocard, the company said in a note to its customers.

"We are very disappointed that Amazon is threatening to restrict consumer choice in the future," a Visa spokesperson said in a statement.

"We continue to work toward a resolution, so our cardholders can use their preferred Visa credit cards at Amazon UK without Amazon-imposed restrictions come January 2022."

Since Brexit, an EU-enforced cap on fees charged by card issuers is no longer in place in the UK.

The move by Amazon, earlier reported by Bloomberg News, has prompted the UK Trade Commission to call on the government to improve the UK-EU trade agreement and analysts to call on British regulators to look into the fees in the credit card market.

"If Amazon can't make it work, with all their resources and ability to navigate legislation to avoid costs, then small businesses have no chance and so the government must improve the UK-EU trade and cooperation agreement to keep British businesses competitive," said Tamara Cincik from UK Trade and Business Commission

  • Automatic tax-exemption on items sold by Amazon LLC and other participating third-party sellers
  • Business pricing and quantity discounts on millions of items
  • Access to a specialized, business-only Amazon Customer Service team

Order with PCard

UB's Amazon Business account may only be used with state, Research Foundation and UB Foundation Procurement Cards.

Amazon orders may not be placed with a purchase order or personal credit card.

> Learn more about the Procurement Card (PCard)

Personal Reimbursements Not Allowable

Personal reimbursements for purchases made with a personal credit card from Amazon will not be processed.

Reimbursement requests for these purchases will be rejected, and individuals will be held personally liable for purchases made with a personal credit card.

Get Started with Amazon Business

All Amazon Business purchases should be placed through UB’s centralized Amazon Business account.

Request to Join the Amazon Business Account

Email [email protected] from your UB email address (@buffalo.edu). Make sure to include your name, department, UB email address, and have a valid UB Procurement Card in your name.

Your request will be processed within two business days. Then, you will receive an activation email directly from Amazon with the subject line, “Welcome to Amazon Business”.  The activation period is time sensitive, so please take action as soon as possible.

Activate Your Amazon Business Account

Activate your Amazon Business account by clicking “Accept the Invitation” from the Amazon email you received when you initially requested access. The first time you access Amazon Business, you will be prompted to create an Amazon Business account.

Use Your @buffalo Email Address

You must use your UB email address (@buffalo.edu) for your Amazon Business account.

First-time User Registration

  1. You will receive an email inviting you to join your organization’s Amazon Business account. Click on Set Up Your Account. Invitations are time sensitive.
  2. If you do not receive your invitation, please check your spam folder. The email will come from [email protected]
  3. Choose the scenario below that applies to you and follow the instructions.

Scenario 1 — Create a new business user account:

If you have not previously used your work email address on Amazon.com, account set up is simple. Enter your full name and choose your business password.

Scenario 2 — Convert your existing Amazon account:

Sign in to the existing account that you use for business purchases on Amazon.com. If you already have an Amazon account tied to your work email address and use this account solely for business purchases, you will migrate this existing account to your organization’s Amazon Business account. Do not choose this option if you have made personal purchases on this account.

Scenario 3 — Separate business and personal shopping:

Sign in to the existing account you use for business/personal purchases on Amazon.com. If you have an existing Amazon account tied to your work email and use this account for business and personal purchases, we will separate your personal order history from your work email. The email designated at this step will be used to access your previous account, including existing order history and saved payments or shipping addresses.

Pre-existing Amazon Business Accounts

If you are already using an Amazon Business account with your @buffalo.edu email address on a pre-existing Amazon Business account, you must de-register your account, converting it back to a consumer account, otherwise you will not be able to receive an invitation to join UB's centralized Amazon Business account.

The migration of your account will not impact your purchasing process and you will log in using your same user credentials.

Before you de-register your account, please email [email protected] if one or more of the following is applicable to you:

  • You are on an account with multiple users
  • You have workflow approvals established on your account

De-register Your Existing Amazon Business Account

  1. Log onto your Amazon Business account and download an order history report for the past 6-12 months (a recommended best practice)
  2. If applicable, remove all users from the account
  3. Go to https://amazon.com/gp/b2b/manage/deregister to de-register your existing account (doing so will not remove any information on the account; it will remove Amazon Business account tag)

When complete:

  1. Email [email protected] for a registration email to the main account. Your Amazon purchasing process will remain the same and you will log in using your same sign-on credentials.
  2. If you encounter any problems while de-registering, please call the Amazon Business customer service team at 1-866-486-2360 for assistance.
  3. If you remove any users on the account, let us know to add them to the main account as well.

Amazon Accounts for Personal Use

If you are currently using your @buffalo.edu email address on Amazon to make personal purchases and do not want to merge your personal order history and Prime Membership to the centralized Amazon Business account, then you will need to change the email address on your personal account to a non-UB email address (i.e. Gmail, Yahoo).

Change Email Address Associated With Your Personal Account

Ensure that your personal order history and any personal Prime Membership remains separate from the Amazon Business account:

  1. Login to your personal Amazon account
  2. Hover over drop down and select Your Account
  3. Select Login and Security Icon
  4. Next to your email, select edit, and enter in a personal email address that is not already tied to another Amazon account
  5. Click save

For Business Use Only

The centralized UB Amazon Business account should be used for business purchases only. Unauthorized purchases will be considered a misuse of the PCard and could result in the loss of your PCard privileges and require reimbursement to the university.

Shopping on Amazon Business

UB has established a centralized Amazon Business account to make purchases of items not available through other sellers and other contracts easier. Through Amazon Business, we have access to all items available on the standard Amazon.com site, plus additional business-specific items as well as other items.

Shipping

Through UB’s centralized Amazon Business Account, you will have unlimited, free 2-day shipping on eligible items. Products eligible for Business Prime Shipping will be designated with a “Prime” logo on the product page and at checkout. Please note, not all shipping speeds are available for all items and all addresses.

Prime Memberships

If you purchased a Prime Membership with your PCard, you may receive a refund now that you have joined the centralized UB Amazon Business Account. Upon registration, you will be notified that consumer Prime will not transfer over to the University at Buffalo Amazon Business Account because we have already purchased Business Prime. You will be made aware of the company Business Prime and your personal Prime will be cancelled prior to converting your account. If you have paid for future months, you will be reimbursed for those pro-rated months.

Sales Tax

If you were charged sales tax on your order even though your Amazon Business account is set up for tax-exempt purchasing, you may request a tax refund if your item was sold or fulfilled by Amazon, LLC.  Call Amazon Business Customer Service at 1-866-486-2360. If you purchased your item from a third-party seller, go to the Amazon website to “Orders”, locate the item that was charged tax, and click Contact SellerPlease give the seller at least two business days to respond.

Gift Cards

Due to a university-wide initiative to reduce risk and tighten internal controls surrounding gift cards, purchases of gift cards may not be made through the UB Amazon Business account. Gift cards are considered a cash equivalent and should be treated as such. Gift card purchases must go through the procurement process to ensure proper controls are in place, and may be submitted as a requisition in eReq or ShopBlue.

Amazon Business: What It Is and How It Can Benefit You

Amazon Business offers business owners access to the retail giant's vast network of suppliers for easy ordering and bulk volume discounts. For members of Amazon Business Prime, additional deals and features are available to help manage their cash flow and control their business expenses. How can you business benefit from Amazon Business or a Business Prime account? Read on to learn more about each.

What is Amazon Business?

Amazon Business provides its users a purchasing solution for their registered business of any size. Each business can assign users who are allowed to go in and purchase business supplies on Amazon on behalf of their employers. The main administrator can add authorized users or remove them as needed, and manage payment methods, shipping addresses, approval workflows, reporting options and more, based on the needs of the business.

"We provide easy access to hundreds of millions of products – everything from IT equipment to janitorial supplies – to businesses of all sizes and across industries," said Martin Rohde, director of the commercial vertical at Amazon Business.

Price savings and shipping options

Amazon Business offers exclusive price savings and shipping benefits for its registered business members. Anyone with a business account can purchase via Amazon.com. Account holders receive price breaks on multi-unit purchases, general price cuts on millions of business products, and the opportunity to compare prices from multiple sellers. You can even request quantity discounts from some sellers.

"We constantly hear from Amazon Business customers that our business-only prices across such a vast selection of products are key to solving their 'tail spending' challenges (money spent on nonplanned or managed supplies, spanning a broad range of categories)," Rohde said. "Tail spend can be costly and time-consuming for businesses, as it often requires managing hundreds or even thousands of different suppliers."

Payment options

You or another administrator of your Amazon Business account can add individual or shared payment options. Shared payment methods include credit cards, debit cards and the Amazon corporate credit line. Any authorized user of your business account can use the payment method of choice to purchase items on your business's behalf. While all your authorized account users can use the card you register, to increase security, they will only be able to see the last four digits.

The Amazon corporate credit line expands your user and management options, giving you the ability to authorize multiple buyers on a single account, download order history reports and pay by purchase order, according to Rohde. It also has easy-to-understand statements and no annual fee. Account administrators can manage individual and shared payment methods and shipping addresses to make ordering seamless for all purchasers in your company.

"We recognize that business customers need to manage a single payment relationship with Amazon Business and receive standardized invoices, while also having the flexibility to purchase from millions of suppliers," said Rohde.

Advantages for small businesses

Many businesses have the opportunity for tax exemption under the Amazon Tax Exemption Program (ATEP). Amazon provides a tool to help you determine if you qualify for the program. The program then allows you to apply your tax-exempt status to eligible purchases from Amazon and all of its affiliates. You don't even need an Amazon Business account to take advantage of this benefit.

Amazon Business also provides some transparency into the supply chain purchasing process with the analytics dashboard.

"Customers can look at their spending activity and total costs on purchases at the individual, purchasing group or type of spend level – giving small businesses the information they need to better control their bottom line," Rohde said.

He added that small business sellers on Amazon Business have the opportunity to grow their sales by reaching millions of business customers across the globe.

What customers say

Having touted its "tailored business experience," has Amazon come through on the promise of Amazon Business? Its growing numbers of customers certainly think so.

"We have our Amazon Business account to mainly take advantage the Amazon Tax Exemption Program," said Rob Boirun, CEO at Reviewster Network. "So, in addition to getting tax-free purchases, we love the program's ease of use in ordering and reordering our most common items. When we run out of printer toner or other office supplies, we can easily order within a few seconds, and the items are in the office two days later."

Boirun said his company has also used Amazon Business for larger purchases, leveraging payment options where the firm can split up the payments between different people in the company. "For example, we purchased a new Wi-Fi router and were able to split up the bill so that four different people using it would each pay 25%."

Amazon Business helps some companies more than others in certain areas, and company decision-makers should know those caveats before signing on with the program.

"Amazon Business works the best when you have products that can be purchased in bulk for businesses," said Chad Rubin, an e-commerce business owner and a Top 50 Amazon seller. "That's a big benefit, as you can incorporate bulk pricing to boost sales and provide a discount to businesses who need a larger amount of your product."

Rubin pointed out that when Amazon Business customers use bulk pricing, they can reach a new audience that tends to spend more, such as other businesses. "It definitely helps when you use bulk pricing to attract customers who need more of certain products."

What is Amazon Business Prime?

Amazon Business Prime is an Amazon subscription that provides a few benefits to subscribers. A subscription includes access to free delivery, discounts and member-only offers. Amazon Busines Prime also includes spending reports powered by AWS QuickSight. Spend visibility provides graphic-driven reports to help manage your business's Amazon-related expenses.

Additionally, Business Prime members have access to guided buying for employees. Guided buying allows administrators on the account to set preferred suppliers and products and restrict employee capabilities when it comes to placing orders. Business Prime members also receive extended terms for Pay-By-Invoice, extending their payment terms to 45 or 60 days depending on their plan.

Amazon offers free two-day shipping in the continental U.S. for Business Prime products, and same-day delivery is available in eligible ZIP codes and select cities. Same-day delivery is available seven days a week most days of the year, with limited availability on certain holidays and high-volume shopping days including Black Friday and Prime Day. Your order must be at least $35 with the free same-day icon to qualify for same-day shipping.

Business Prime customers can also use Amazon Day for free to select a single day each week to receive all their weekly items, preventing excessive package deliveries. Eligible items can be ordered up to two days before your business's selected Amazon Day.

What does Amazon Business Prime cost?

Amazon Business Prime has several membership plans to accomodate various numbers of users. These include:

  • Duo: The Duo plan is $69 per year and accomodates one user. It does not include access to spend visibility, guided buying, or extended terms for Pay By Invoice, however.
  • Essentials: The Essentials plan is $179 per year and includes up to three users. It does make available the spend visibility, guided buying and extended terms for Pay By Invoice that are not available with the Duo plan.
  • Small: The small plan is $499 per year and includes up to 10 users.
  • Medium: The medium plan is $1,299 per year and includes up to 100 users.
  • Enterprise: The Enterprise plan is $10,099 per year and includes more than 100 users. It also includes an optimal deployment, in which Amazon Business Professional Services fine tunes the account to optimize spend visibility and policy settings in a full scale implementation process.

Is Amazon Business Prime a good deal?

Many businesses find value in the subscription, but it's not always the cheapest way to shop. The value of free shipping on selected items from Amazon is impacted largely by local prices and availability, bulk prices for business shoppers, and order scheduling. For example, if you own a restaurant and typically order from Restaurant Depot a few times a year, you should do a price comparison; you may already be getting the best deal possible. On the other hand, if you live in a remote area where little in-store shopping is available or delivery costs are often very high, Prime may be worth it.

Whole Foods isn't exactly known for its low prices, but since the grocery giant was bought by Amazon in 2017, changes have been afoot. The online retailer has slashed prices on many Whole Foods products, and in 2018 announced that shoppers using the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card will earn 5% cash back on purchases made at Whole Foods.

There is a small catch: The 5% cash back benefit, which also applies to Amazon.com purchases, is only available to active members of Amazon Prime, a subscription program that offers free two-day shipping, access to streaming video and music, and a variety of other Amazon-specific perks for $119 a year.

Those who do not have Amazon Prime can get the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card, which gives 3% cash back on Amazon.com and Whole Foods purchases. Cardholders of either card can get 2% cash back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores, and 1% back on all other purchases.

The cards, which are offered through a partnership with Chase, also come with several other benefits, including no foreign transaction fees on purchases made abroad, lost luggage reimbursement and no cap on rewards earnings. Cardholders can redeem rewards at Amazon itself, but also through cash back in form of statement credits, gift cards and at Chase's travel rewards portal.

So Is It Worth It to Apply for the Amazon Prime Rewards Card?

For existing Prime members who are big Amazon spenders, it's probably a good bet—especially because there's no annual fee to own the card. You could even use this card to earn cash rewards that totally cover your $119 Amazon Prime membership if you spend at least $2,380 a year at Amazon.com. But if you don't spend that much at Amazon.com every year, you could probably make up that membership fee with rewards earned through spending at Whole Foods and elsewhere.

If your spending lines up with the Amazon Prime Rewards Card's rewards categories, signing up for Prime and applying for the card is worth considering, because the cash back could cover your Prime membership.

But if shelling out $119 a year for a Prime membership isn't something you'd do anyway, the card is less attractive and you may want to consider other rewards cards. That's because there are others out there that can earn you 3% or more on all grocery purchases (American Express has several), as well as other cards that offer higher returns on dining out and gas. The key, as usual, lies in examining where you spend your money in order to maximize your cash back rewards and using the right card on the right purchases.

Here's when it makes little sense to apply for the card: If you plan on carrying any sort of credit card balance. The APR on the Amazon Rewards Visa card is between 14.24% and 22.24%, depending on an applicant's credit worthiness. That rate could wipe out any rewards you might earn—and saddle you with additional debt.

This program offers a few features that can boost a business’ sales and revenue.

Amazon Business for Registered Sellers

Registered sellers can use Amazon Business for free and it makes it easier to buy things on Amazon. To do this, go to the Amazon Business page and click Create Free Account.

When you do this, there will be a setup process that you will be walked through. The one who creates will be considered the administrator whose information will be used for verification purposes.

Amazon Business services can be linked to existing Amazon Prime accounts to share things like shipping benefits. Visit the main landing page, for more info on Amazon Business

When you begin purchasing products, you can look at Amazon’s Business Analytics and view the data on your orders and make reports.

Pros

Registered Amazon Business users get an enhanced experience with more benefits than someone with a regular Amazon account. The experience of buying corporate items and supplies through a business account is more seamless, more efficient and less costly.

Eyes on Your Product

Amazon Business had around 400,000 customers in January 2017. BloomReach, the digital-experience platform, commissioned a study which found that consumers’ online product searches are started more on Amazon compared to on Google. Amazon provides an experience that makes shoppers comfortable going there to look for a product. If you have your products selling on Amazon’s consumer site, Amazon Business will have them too.

B2B Features

Amazon has invested in research and development reportedly allotting funds exceeding $13 billion/year. The user experience on its website has been updated and changed to help in maximizing sales. There are features on Amazon Business that are optimized for business sellers such as quantity discounts, business pricing, integration with procurement software, and tax-exempt purchasing.

Fulfillment Simplified

Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) makes fulfilling orders easier by letting Amazon do it for you. Your products would be shipped to an Amazon warehouse. Those items will be stored until a sale is made where they will then pick, pack, and ship them. Some parts of customer service such as refunds and returns are handled by Amazon for FBA customers.

Diversity

If you are registered as a small business, if the business is female-owned, owned by a minority, or by veteran, that can be listed as a credential on your profile. Product searches can then be refined to see products sold by minority-owned business, small businesses, etc.

Cons

Giving up margin

You could pay fees from 6 to 15 percent based on the category of your product, excluding items that are not commonly sold as business products. FBA fees are not included.

Seen as a commodity

There not as much opportunity for building relationships with your buyers or standing out from the competition. Amazon Business makes it simple and easy for buyers to look for and purchase from vendors who sell their items at the lowest cost.

Communication with buyers is limited

Communication between sellers and customers is limited on Amazon. Such rules include restrictions on what can be included in packages shipped to customers. To Amazon, those customers are not yours, but theirs. Because of this, you don’t get much brand awareness and you have less control of the relationship.

Data and administration

It can be taxing to get product data into Amazon. There are respective rules for each product category. The way amazon business credit card vs personal the product data is set up greatly impacts your product visibility and the likelihood of those products selling.

What to Consider in the Long Term?

A question often asked by both manufacturers and distributors is if they should create an ecommerce site of their own, or if they should sell on Amazon. They can do both. While Amazon can be a great platform to utilize in terms of business strategy, there are downsides of not having your own site, including being forced to sell largely on price and having less ability to create a relationship with your customers.

Listing on Amazon increases your product visibility, and for services and such that Amazon may alaskan kee kai provide, buyers may turn to your company in search of those things like providing customers help in selecting the correct items and providing support in how to use them.

There are several ways in jose abreu 2014 stats you can sell on Amazon to complement your own store. Such methods include selling a subset of your products on Amazon, using Amazon as a testing ground for new items, or seeing how ordering online suits your products. Providing services and other things that are of value to your customer on your website that Amazon does not provide on theirs is a good strategy for bringing customer traffic and growing sales on your site whilst still taking advantage of what Amazon provides.

While Amazon Business is available in eight countries, Amazon Business Prime is only available in three: US, Germany, and Japan.

While it is possible for a business to join with Amazon Prime and get the same free shipping and delivery (sales tax is still charged), Amazon Prime does not have the tools and heavier discounts available on Amazon Business due to it being intended for single-user personal use.

Final Thoughts

After going over these different services hopefully you have an idea of which one is better for your needs. Options on Amazon Business relate to more choices on shipping and things such as purchasing permissions and user accounts.

Amazon Prime, however, caters more to the individual user providing media particularly but not necessarily catering to the needs of a company.

Do not choose this option if you have made personal purchases on this account.

Scenario 3 — Separate business and personal shopping:

Pre-existing Amazon Business Accounts

The migration of your account will not impact your purchasing process and you will log in using your same user credentials.

  • You are on an account with multiple users
  • You have workflow approvals established on your account

Travel is on the rise. Businesses and countries are opening up. More places are hiring. With that in mind, now can be one of the best times to consider a business card.

There are co-brand options, flexible options, and no annual fee options available. Even better, some employee cards are free. If you’re new to business credit cards, this might be a better option for you to help you get your feet wet. However, the bonus offers on the other cards are worth checking out, especially if you know you can meet the minimum spend.

best Chase business credit cards

I have my personal and business bank accounts with Chase so naturally, I have a Amazon business credit card vs personal business credit card.

  • Points are worth 25% more when you redeem for airfare, hotels, car rentals, and cruises through Chase Ultimate Amazon business credit card vs personal points when you spend in select business categories

  • No limit on cash back rewards, benefits one medical passport facility login expire
