300 Sight Words for Kids! - Learning Time Fun - High Frequency Words - Popcorn Words - Sight Words When Word finishes checking the spelling and grammar and errors corrected, you can choose to display information about the reading level of the document, including readability scores according to the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level test and 1st grade spelling words 2016 Reading Ease test.
Go to File > Options.
Select Proofing.
Under When correcting spelling and grammar in Word, make sure the Check grammar with spelling check box is selected.
Select Show readability statistics.
After you enable this feature, open a file that you want to check, and check the spelling by pressing F7 or going to Review > Spelling & Grammar. When Word finishes checking the spelling and grammar, it displays information about the reading level of the document.
Important: You must correct or Ignore all errors found in the document before the readability statistics will display.
On the Word menu, click Preferences.
You must have a document open to see preferences.
Under Authoring and Proofing Tools, click Spelling and Grammar.
Under Grammar, select the Check grammar with spelling check box.
Select the Show readability statistics check box, and close the Spelling & Grammar dialog box.
On the Tools menu, point to Spelling and Grammar and click Spelling & Grammar.
After Word finishes checking spelling and grammar, it displays information about the reading level of the document.
Note: You must correct or Ignore all errors found in the document before the readability statistics will display.
Understand readability scores
Each readability test bases its rating on the average number of syllables per word and words per sentence. The following sections explain how each test scores your file's readability.
This test rates text on a 100-point scale. The higher the score, the easier it is to understand the document. For most standard files, you want the score to be between 60 and 70.
The formula for the Flesch Reading Ease score is:
206.835 – (1.015 x ASL) – (84.6 x ASW)
where:
ASL = average sentence length (the number of words divided by the number of sentences)
ASW = average number of syllables per word (the number of syllables divided by the number of words)
This test rates text on a U.S. school grade level. For example, a score of 8.0 means that an eighth grader can understand the document. For most documents, aim for a score of approximately 7.0 to 8.0.
The formula for the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level score is:
(.39 x ASL) + (11.8 x ASW) – 15.59
where:
ASL = average sentence length (the number of words divided by the number of sentences)
ASW = average number of syllables per word (the number of syllables divided by the number of words)
The languages that you use in a document can affect how your Office program checks and presents readability scores.
If you set up Word to check the spelling and grammar of text in other languages, and a document contains text in multiple languages, Word displays readability statistics for text in the last language that was checked. For example, if a document contains three paragraphs — the first in English, the second in French, and the third in English — Word displays readability statistics for the English text only.
For some European languages within an English document, Word displays only information about counts and averages, not readability.

Levels:
There are 2 levels of competition in the NorthSouth on-line Vocabulary Bee:
- JSB (Junior Spelling Bee): Grades 1, 2 and 3
- SSB (Senior Spelling Bee): Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8
Eligibility:
A 1st rank winner at the National Finals of the North South Foundation Junior Spelling bee is not eligible for competing in this and future North South Spelling contests. The 1st rank winner of Junior Spelling bee can, however, participate in the Senior Spelling bee. A contestant who participated in a higher-level bee cannot participate in a lower level bee in subsequent years irrespective of student’s age. 1st grade spelling words 2016
Phases:
Both online Spelling bees (JSB and SSB) are held in three phases: Phase I is written, while Phases II and Phase III are oral rounds. For Phase I, contestants will take an on-line written test. More information can be found under Phase I instructions in the respective Spelling bee pages below. For Phase II and Phase III oral rounds, contestants will be provided with a link to a video conferencing session
NorthSouth requests contestants to adhere to these rules:
- All spellers should have a computer (phone and tablet are not allowed) with a microphone and webcam. Spellers without a computer with a microphone or webcam are not allowed to participate. Contestants are requested to not wear headsets or earbuds.
- In addition to the computer described above, for Phase II and III (Oral rounds of the contest) spellers should have a second computer, a phone, or a tablet with a webcam. This second device is used to monitor the speller’s room and the screen of the first device.
- Contestants should have a highly reliable internet connection. Please ask your parents and household members to turn off all other devices. walmart supercenter orlando fl
- Contestants are expected to be in a very quiet room by themselves. No one is allowed to be present in the Contestant’s room in all phases of the contest. 1st grade spelling words 2016
- During the Oral rounds contestants should always make their hands visible to the judges. Any suspicious activity will not be tolerated and could result in disqualification from the entire event
- Judges may decide to resolve any conflicts in a private space away from the rest of the contest. The contestant must dispute before the next round starts for the judges to review.
- Phase II will not be broadcast live and no video recordings will be made or distributed. 1st grade spelling words 2016
- All contestants should keep their microphones muted except while answering during the oral rounds.
- The judges are in complete control of the competition and their decisions are final. Pronouncers and judges use both NorthSouth material and Merriam-Webster 3rd International Unabridged Edition as sources in conducting the contests.

When Word finishes checking the spelling and grammar and errors corrected, you can choose to display information about the reading level of the document, including readability scores according to the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level test and 1st grade spelling words 2016 Reading Ease test.
