Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop José Uribe played 10 seasons in the majors and was a regular for the San Francisco Giants from 1985 to 1991. His best season came in 1987, when he hit .291 with 5 home runs. He was the uncle of Juan Uribe.

José played in the minors under the name José Gonzalez because Gonzalez was his father's last name. Hispanics frequently identify themselves by both their father's and their mother's family, hence the name Uribe, which was his mother's family name. When José broke into the majors, he decided that it would be better to be known as José Uribe, because José Gonzalez was too common a name - in fact a young outfielder for the Dodgers had the same name. He first said he wanted to be called Uribe Gonzalez (using Uribe as a first name), then settled a few weeks later on José Uribe.

His name became the punchline to a joke about baseball trades at the time: Who was the player to be named later? Jose Uribe.

1977-1984: Minor league career[edit]

Uribe was signed by the New York Yankees in 1977 but spent the year on the disabled list and was released in short order. Three years later, he was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals. Making his professional debut at 22, he hit .268 for the 1981 St. Petersburg Cardinals, starting off at high A ball. In 1982, he batted .247 for the Arkansas Travelers and .357 for the Louisville Redbirds in limited action in his Triple A debut.

José hit .284/~.341/.378 the 1983 Redbirds and stole 26 bases in 36 tries. He led the American Association with 14 sacrifice hits, though his 33 errors led league shortstops. Ozzie Smith held down short in St. Louis so Uribe had no chance in the majors. Back in Louisville in 1984, his batting line read .279/~.317/.347. He again led Double A shortstops in errors (32) but also in assists (455, 82 more than the next player), putouts (233) and double plays (96), giving him the lead in fielding percentage (.956). He made the league's All-Star team at shortstop. Uribe then went 4 for 19 in a September call-up. As the Cardinals did not need him at shortstop with the Wizard of Oz there, they dealt him, with David Green, Dave LaPoint and Gary Rajsich, to the San Francisco Giants for Jack Clark, a key performer in the Cards' 1985 success.

1985-1992: With the Giants[edit]

José Uribe became San Francisco's starting shortstop right away and hit .237/.285/.315 his first year (1985), followed by a .223/.315/.280 season. In 1986, he was one double play behind NL co-leaders Smith and Shawon Dunston. He had career highs of 43 RBI, 22 steals (in 33 attempts) and 61 walks, aided by 19 intentional walks (4th in the 1986 NL) thanks to his batting right in front of the pitcher. With the 1987 Giants, Uribe had his best year (.291/.343/.424, 12 for 14 in steals, and a career-high 5 home runs). He went 7 for 26 in the 1987 NLCS, which the Giants dropped in seven games to the Cardinals.

The next season, 1988, the 29-year-old batted .252/.301/.318 but set a career high with 47 runs scored. His most famous run though was one that was not counted. On September 23, the Giants played the Los Angeles Dodgers and Orel Hershiser, who was closing in on Don Drysdale's consecutive scoreless inning record. Uribe led off the 3rd inning with a single and pitcher Atlee Hammaker laid down a bunt single. Brett Butler hit into a force out at second, Uribe taking third. Ernest Riles grounded to Steve Sax, who threw to Alfredo Griffin for one; José crossed home and the throw to first did not get Riles in time. The scoreless inning streak would seem to be over with Uribe getting the credit - but instead umpire Paul Runge said Butler caused interference and it was a double play, ending the inning without Uribe's run counting. Hershiser said that at the time, he thought to himself "Well, the streak is gone."

Uribe slumped to .221/.273/.280 for the Giants in 1989 though he was the starting shortstop for a World Series-bound club. Uribe's 436 assists were second among NL shortstops to Ozzie Smith. He hit 4 for 17 with a double and a walk in the 1989 NLCS and was 1 for 5 with a run in the "Earthquake Series" against the Oakland Athletics. His offensive performance did not rebound much in 1990 as he only hit .248/.297/.304. He was out for about a month in 1991 due to injury and made a couple rehabilitation appearances in the minors. He batted .221/.283/.303 with San Francisco. In 1992, José produced at a .241/.299/.346 clip and Royce Clayton took over as the starting shortstop.

1993: Houston[edit]

Uribe moved to the Houston Astros as a free agent in 1993. Used primarily as a defensive substitute for Andujar Cedeno, he only started 13 of the 45 games in which he played. He hit .245/.355/.264 and fielded only .944.

Statistics[edit]

Overall, José had hit .241/.300/.314 in the majors with 74 steals in 120 tries. His contact and OBP skills were typical for a shortstop of the era while his power was low even by those standards. He served about 7 years as a major league starter and spent about a decade in the majors altogether.

Post-playing career[edit]

After his playing career ended, Uribe returned to his hometown in the Dominican Republic and owned a hardware store and other businesses. He had at least 14 children and was married twice. In 2006, he unsuccessfully ran for mayor of the town.

Later that year, he tragically died after crashing his SUV; he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. Vladimir Guerrero led thousands of mourners through the streets of Uribe's hometown.

In 2018, Uribe's 1990 Fleer trading card began popping up on eBay priced at $500,000 or better, with dealers listing the card as super rare and a short print. This was not the case; despite the fact, some online listings through 2019 still list the card being worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

CareDash updates insurance information from a variety of sources including:

  • National resources such as Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)

  • Office managers for the provider

  • Third-party partners that represent the provider to CareDash

This section highlights the procedures that Dr. Gonzalez performs most frequently.

This feature uses Medicare data to determine how often a provider performs a procedure relative to other providers in their state also performing the same procedure.

Data in this section is calculated using Medicare Physician and Other Supplier Data, which provides records of Medicare utilization throughout the United States. It includes aggregate information about the procedures performed by different providers.

Using this data, we can detect when doctors perform certain procedures more frequently than similar providers. These procedures go into this section in order to help consumers make more informed choices. While this data can provide a wealth of knowledge, it comes with certain limitations.

The data is limited to Medicare beneficiaries, meaning that physicians that do not accept Medicare (<10% of all physicians) will be excluded. It may also be skewed towards procedures more common among Medicare beneficiaries than the general population.

A lack of detection does not necessarily mean a lack of expertise, just that it was not visible within this dataset. Always check with your doctor before making any decisions.

This section shows the financial relationships between doctors and pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

The U.S. government collects extensive records about these relationships. Some examples include:

  • Consulting fees that companies pay to doctors, to get their input about their products and research
  • Companies paying doctors to speak about their products at conferences
  • Companies taking doctors out to dinner to tell them about a new drug or medical device
  • Companies paying for travel, hotel rooms, and food at medical conferences

The U.S. government collects and publishes these records due to concerns about conflicts of interest. However, CareDash does not believe that these transfers of value necessarily mean a doctor is ethically compromised. Eating sponsored food at conferences and speaking on behalf of pharmaceutical companies are not the same thing. Further, we believe that there are doctors who have success with companies' products, get paid to speak about them, and are still foremost devoted to successful patient outcomes.

Therefore, in addition to showing the payments information, we provide some context, such as the median amount for doctors of that specialty, to help users assess potential conflicts of interest. We encourage users to discuss this information with their doctors.

Data in this section is calculated using Open Payments data, collected by Medicare as part of the Affordable Care Act. This data contains detailed records about payments and other transfers of value from pharmaceutical and medical device companies to doctors.

Although the Open Payments program is administered by Medicare, it covers almost all doctors in the United States, including those who do not accept Medicare insurance.

Angelo De Augustine

Bio

Swim Inside the Moon is a record by 24-year-old Angelo De Augustine. This second full-length of Angelo’s career captures a sound he’s been looking for since he started playing music a decade ago.

Shortly after the 2015 release of Spirals of Silence, his first record, Angelo toured extensively but caught whooping cough on the last show of the tour. The illness debilitated Angelo for months. He feared he might permanently lose his voice, or if it came back, it wouldn’t sound the same.

Unable to sing or sometimes even speak, Angelo instead focused on songwriting. “I wasn’t thinking much about making a record,” says Angelo.

This gave Angelo a lot time to focus on songwriting and sound. Although Angelo had previously recorded in studios, he felt like that environment didn’t capture the ambience he wanted for his music.

Angelo’s voice did recover, and this time he set-up his equipment by himself, in his home. In his bathtub.

Recording in a bathroom might sound odd, but it’s nothing new really; supposedly Jim Morrison recorded vocals for “L.A. Woman” in a bathroom and even took The Doors (lolz) off the hinges so he could talk to bandmates while he played, and Obx house rentals 2020 Beatles recorded some of their earliest work in bathrooms. In the 1940s, producer Bill Putnam engineered the first intentionally recorded reverb for a Harmonicats take of “Peg o’ My Heart” by putting the microphone and loudspeaker in a bathroom.

Angelo’s setup was similarly simple: a Shure SM57 microphone next to the wall of the shower and a cable back to an analog reel-to-reel in his nearby bedroom. He’d hit record, then run quickly to the bathroom with his guitar and sit on the edge of the tub and play and sing. For some songs, he played his mother’s 100-year-old piano in the living room, and on others he added synth and electric guitar. He kept it simple.

Recording the nine songs on Swim Inside the Moon took several months. Because Angelo was using an analog reel-to-reel machine with very little overdubbing, he was always recording live. If something didn’t go as planned, he’d start from scratch each time.

Some of the songs took only a few takes. But others took weeks; if a song wasn’t working on a particular day, Angelo texas roadhouse bangor maine return to it the next day. Sometimes there were other interruptions: “Occasionally my dogs would bark on a really good take,” says Angelo. Other times Angelo kept recording anyway.“You might be able to hear them in the background,” he says.

The reverb, analog as it is, gives Angelo’s music a strong sense of place: this music existed as a soundwave that bounced off walls in Angelo’s bathroom, and then dr jose gonzalez atlanta over wires to the listener. The reverb amplifies Angelo’s songwriting, echoing a sense of heartache, loss, but also of joy and hope, and the comfort of home.

This freedom allowed Angelo to find the sound he was looking for: “A sound behind the voice,” he says. “I noticed that when you sing off a reflective surface you hear two voices. One is the representation of yourself and the other is similar to a shadow that follows the sound. I was compelled to isolate that voice and bring it more to the front of the songs because in many ways I feel more connected to and comforted by that voice following me.”

Besides a distinct sense of place and time, listeners might also hear Nick Drake’s intricate arpeggiated guitar parts, Elliott Smith’s pure vocals, or, at times, a likeness to the soulfulness of artists such as Vashti Bunyan, Judee Sill, Joanna Newsom, and Jose Gonzalez.

But it’s worth noting that these artists are fairly new to Angelo, whose musical inspiration comes more from his mom than from a playlist. “Because my mom’s career was singing, she would never listen to music when she wasn’t working,” Angelo explains. “The music that I did hear the most were her songs that she wrote at home.

As to what these songs mean, well, that’s harder to say. “I couldn’t tell you,” says Angelo, though it sounds like he wished he could. He compares his songwriting to waking up after a vivid dream: “I get into this place, and then I wake up with a song instead of a dream,” says Angelo, “Maybe I’ll know what it’s about later. Or maybe I knew, and I’ve forgotten.”

Angelo De Augustine writes and records music in Thousand Oaks, California — a suburb north of Los Angeles, where he grew up. His self-released debut album, Spirals of Silence, and 3-song EP follow-up, How Past Begins, earned praise from The FADER, Stereogum, Vogue, My Old Kentucky Blog, and more.

“The sonic equivalent of a cracked porcelain plate—broken, but beautiful in its ruin.” – Vogue

“Crystalline and otherworldly… matching warm guitar figures with chilling whispers” – Stereogum

“Stunning is used quite a bit to describe music, but in this instance it rings true.” – My Old Kentucky Blog

The U.S. government collects coming 2 america casting call records about these relationships.

Jose Uribe.
