Post Consumer Brands is one of six companies statewide to be recognized for its exceptional efforts to end hunger in its community. Post Consumer Brands participated in the October 2015 “Minnesota’s Own” campaign to end hunger.

“Minnesota’s Own” has provided more than 34 million meals to Minnesota families in need since 2008. It was coordinated by the Minnesota Grocers Association (MGA) and included 175 MGA retail members, 13 vendor partners as well as community food banks and food shelves across the state.

Participating stores and vendor locations offered multiple opportunities for consumers to contribute to the campaign. Many retailers encouraged customers to donate grocery items in-store or round up their purchase totals at the register, contributing the price difference to feed local families. Others prominently displayed the names of customers who donated money on grocery list icons. All food and monetary contributions collected were distributed to a variety of local food shelves, banks, and support organizations across the state.

Post Consumer Brands received the Silver Plate Award for Best Single Creative Display—Vendor in the “Minnesota’s Own” display contest, which offers a chance for campaign participants to get creative with in-store advertising while engaging consumers to end hunger. Statewide, 188 stores and vendors participated in this year’s display contest. In addition to the award, Post Consumer Brands presented a $1,000 donation to the food charity of their choice, Second Harvest Heartland, on behalf of the “Minnesota’s Own” program.

“Healthy families and kids, are the core of a strong community,” said Linda Fisher, director of communications at Post Consumer Brands. “That’s why we’ve had a long-standing  commitment to hunger relief efforts. We are honored to participate in the Minnesota Grocers Association’s ‘Minnesota’s Own’ program this year and its fight against hunger.”

“Post Consumer Brands is a supportive and generous partner of Second Harvest Heartland. Through their support of financial and food donations in addition to donating volunteer hours, they help us in our mission to end hunger through community partnerships,” said Rob Zeaske, CEO of Second Harvest Heartland. “Congratulations to Post Consumer Brands for the Silver Plate Award, and a special thank you for the $1,000 donation.”

Added MGA President Jamie Pfuhl, “It was exciting to see these partnerships develop and everyone’s hard work on the ‘Minnesota’s Own’ program make a positive difference for Minnesota families in need. I applaud Post Consumer Brands on its successes in this campaign. All of our participants did a great job raising awareness on a community level and rallying consumers behind this important cause.”

Every now and then an event comes along that sets new standards -- for charity, for food, for collaboration. This Sunday at Solera in downtown Minneapolis has all of the makings for exactly that. Coming together for one special night to benefit Second Harvest Heartland are 16 chefs and 6 farms. Check out the press release below for the who, what, where and when!

Farm in the Cities 2011 is a fundraising event for Second Harvest Heartland to spotlight local farmers’ foods and the restaurants that serve them.  This event is presented by Six Rivers Cooperative and the participating restaurants on Sunday, October 30th at Solera Cocina de Espana in Minneapolis.

The event was created as a way to educate the public on how to source and prepare farm fresh food by highlighting locally-grown products and the restaurants that utilize them in their menus.

Farm in the Cities kicks off at 4 pm with a demonstration by the participating farmers and chefs. They will share information on the various farms and local foods, as well as how to purchase and prepare farm fresh products. There will be passed appetizers and samples prepared by the participating chefs using fresh farm ingredients. A cash bar will be available.  Proceeds from the cash bar, as well as a small cash donation or canned food item, will go to Second Harvest Heartland.

The second portion of the event, beginning at 6 pm, will feature a 7-course dinner (including dessert), and wine or beer paired with the courses.  The dinner will be prepared by the participating chefs using local products grown and provided primarily by Six Rivers Cooperative and its members.  During the course of the evening, the chefs will share insights into the products used in the preparation of their course.  The dinner cost is $125 per person with proceeds going to Second Harvest Heartland.

Confirmed chefs and restaurants participating in Farm in the Cities 2011 include:

  • Kevin Kathman of Barbettes;
  • Jim Kyndberg of Crave;
  • Derik Moran of Dakota Jazz;
  • Jack Reibel formerly of Dakota Jazz;

  • Wayne and Carla Kostka of Castle Rock Organic Dairy/Six Rivers Cooperative;
  • Maurice and Gail Smith of DragSmith Farms/Six Rivers Cooperative;
  • Mary and Lee Graese of Northstar Bison/Six Rivers Cooperative;
  • Andy Peterson, Wayne Peterson of Peterson Limousin Farms/Six Rivers Cooperative;
  • Lowell & Kathy Jacobson of Six Rivers Cooperative.

Reservations can be made by calling Solera’s Jay Viskocil at 612-338-0062. Solera is located at 900 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403.

I think just a bit more needs to be said about Second Harvest Heartland. They are an outstanding organization in St. Paul that distributes nearly 60 million pounds of food a year to hungry folks, families and children. More than just that, they seek to educate people about hunger and end the cycle that keeps people hungry. Read more about how you can participate in the efforts here, especially if you cannot attend Sunday's event.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have contributed over $8 million to-date in financial support and food to organizations across North America. We first announced on March 16 that we would donate $1 million in cash and food to food banks and local pantries in our hometowns. The need in our local communities has been so great that we have exceeded that amount and expect it to continue to increase.

Our help is needed now more than ever, as the communities in which we operate adapt to the crisis and manage both the social and economic impact of the pandemic. The funds will feed people in our communities across the country, from our chip factory in Hyannis, Massachusetts, and our offices in Tualatin, Oregon, to our meals and beverages plant in Napoleon, Ohio, and dozens of towns in between.

Through this commitment, we are providing direct financial support to local food banks, pantries and community organizations across the country. The funding is critically important as these organizations work to quickly shift the way they operate from direct feeding to mobile pantries, meal delivery and other approaches dictated by this crisis.

“The increased need for shelf-stable food has been a consistent request from food banks in the wake of this pandemic. We’ll continue to work with them to determine which products are most needed and dedicate production runs to meet their needs,” said Kim Fortunato, Vice President of Community Affairs and President of The Campbell Soup Foundation.

Additionally, shipments of food donations are arriving to the Feeding America food bank network in these same areas, as well as other local pantries or feeding programs.

Our initial distribution of funds and/or foods went to the following organizations in our hometown communities:

Support for local Camden High School students

Along with providing food for our neighbors nationwide, we have committed $100,000 to the Camden City School District in Camden, New Jersey, home of our world headquarters since 1869. The funds will provide all students at six public high schools with laptops for remote learning, a resource that’s critical in keeping students engaged and connected while at home.

New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund

Campbell’s Chunky teams up with Zach Ertz and Saquon Barkley

Campbell’s Chunky has matched Zach Ertz’s $100,000 contribution to Philabundance, which is in addition to the donation of food our company made earlier.

We also partnered with Saquon Barkley to make donations to the Food Bank of New York City and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.

Donating to one of the NFL’s charitable partners, Feeding America

During the NFL Draft, our CEO Mark Clouse announced a $500,000 contribution to Feeding America in honor of our front-line employees who are working to ensure there’s food on tables across North America.

As Mark said, “We will continue to provide food and comfort to those who need it most.”

In these unprecedented times, we will continue to support the many communities that we call home.
