Today, ICICI Bank is the top private sector lender in the country along with banks like State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda.

Structure of ICICI Bank IFSC Code

ICICI IFSC CODE is an alphanumeric code of 11 characters used for transferring online funds through NEFT, RTGS & IMPS.

Visiting the Goodreturns.in site you can find the unique IFSC code of every bank and branch based on your location. Let’s take an example, for Indira Nagar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, the ICICI Bank IFSC code is ICIC0001680. To let you understand more clearly, let's break down this code into 3 sections.

  • The first four digits of the code reflect the name of the bank
  • And for future use, the next digit 'o' is kept aside.
  • The last six characters are explicitly reflective of the ICICI branch addressed.

Remember that another branch will have a specific IFSC code in the same city and state. For a fund transfer facilitated using net banking, the IFSC code must be provided. It can bring the sender in trouble if the proper IFSC code is not assessed in, and it is also a necessity for fund transfers around the country to recognize the payee / beneficiary IFSC code.

Fund transfer using ICICI IFSC Code through  NEFT, RTGS & IMPS

Money can be transferred via NEFT, RTGS and IMPS using the IFSC code. The following information is needed to trigger a fund transfer.

  • Name of the payee/beneficiary
  • Name of the bank, branch and IFSC code
  • Account number of the beneficiary or payee

It is mandatory to register the beneficiary before initiating the fund transfer process and then proceed to choose the 'Fund Transfer' option. Once this is completed, before validating the money transfer with an OTP or pin number, other specifics will have to be filled up. For all NEFT, IMPS, or RTGS transactions, mobile banking or online banking can be used.

National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT)

NEFT or National Electronic Funds Transfers are rendered in batches and have a fixed timing under which ICICI settlements the funds. This system operates on the basis of Deferred Net Settlements and is carried out on an hourly basis. If the batch approval is done within the prescribed time period, the money is credited to the recipient on the same day otherwise the same will be credited on the next working day.

Procedure to generate MMID for ICICI

Manual fund transactions have appeared a fact of the old days with the revitalisation of the Indian banking system. For Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT), there are various readily available modes that have made life simpler for all. NEFT, IMPS, RTGS, UPI, AePS, etc. are among these new approaches. IMPS is the most common among them, offering many specific features and advantages.

What is IMPS?

IMPS means for Immediate Service for Payment. The Indian government initiated this facility in 2010 and is supported by India's National Payment Corporation (NPCI). It performs every transaction immediately, as the title indicates. Using his or her registered mobile number, IMPS allows the user to make payments instantly from their mobile phone without compromising their comfort on a 24x7 basis. The transfer of funds from one account to another is also a safe process. The great thing concerning IMPS is that irrespective of national and bank holidays, it is available around the clock and throughout the year. Almost every Indian bank is a participant of the IMPS network at present. When a customer transfers funds to someone via IMPS, the registered mobile number integrates the customer to his bank account. IMPS does not transfer the balance directly to the recipient's account, unlike RTGS and NEFT. It transfers the balance from the account of the customer instead and transfers it to their associated mobile number. Next, the balance is transferred from the mobile number of the user to the mobile number of the recipient. Ultimately, the balance is sent from the mobile number of the recipient to the associated bank account.

In this instance, the bank's title is signified by the first 4 letters, 'ICIC' and the following digit, '0' or zero, is left aside for future use by the bank. The last 6 digits '000103' apply to the bank branch that will approve credit card payments. This implies that even though they do not have an account with the ICICI bank, those who own an ICICI credit card can cover their bill via NEFT. They need to know the IFSC Code of the ICICI credit card to do this. An IFSC code will be required for customers who want to transfer funds from one bank to another. IFSC means Indian Financial System Code. This is a distinctive 11 digit code allocated to each and every branch of the bank. And this allows you to transfer the money to the right branch of the bank. ICICI Bank credit card IFSC code is ICIC0000103. Other branches' IFSC codes are accessible on the official portal of ICICI Bank. For the same reason, customers can even call the customer service centre. The payment will take 1 working day to be reflected in the credit card account. In order to prevent late payment charges, ICICI Bank allows its cardholder to make a payment through NEFT at least 1 day before the due date of the bill. The following situations will occur if a customer enters the wrong IFSC code to clear his or her credit card bill.

  • The transaction will be denied and the balance will not be deducted from the account of the customer.
  • The balance might be debited from the account of the customer and not fully reimbursed to him or her.

ICICI Bank has outpaced HDFC Bank on nearly every count in the last three months

India’s second largest private bank by market capitalisation just saw its quarterly net profit jump three and a half times compared to a year earlier, thanks to the halving of provision for bad loans and a sharp spike in retail loans, driven by its recent thrust to ramp up its sales via digital platforms.

The growth may look sweeter to ICICI Bank’s investors when compared to its bigger rival HDFC Bank.

These are the key financial highlights from ICICI Bank’s earnings:
GrowthICICI Bank HDFC Bank
Net interest income+16.9%+12.6%
Loan growth13.7%14%
Provision for bad loans-51.7%+24%
Pre-provision profit+22.1%+19%
Retail loan growth+19.9%+6.7%
Net interest margin*+0.17%Unchanged
Profit after tax+260.5%+26%
Gross NPA+57 basis points+41 basis points
The highlighted ones are the metrics where HDFC Bank has performed better than ICICI Bank. The change in net interest margin and gross NPA is compared to the preceding three months while all other data is compared to the performance a year earlier.

International broking firm CLSA, which increased its target price on the stock ₹825 (nearly 45% higher than Friday’s closing price), called it the ‘new growth leader’ in the banking space. The optimism around ICICI Bank was visible in its share price in the run up to the earnings day.

ICICI Bank has outpaced HDFC Bank on nearly every count in the last three months

What’s driving the growth for ICICI Bank

Individual borrowers are the bank’s biggest customers, making up for two thirds of the loan book. And this segment, with a growth of over 19%, saw the highest spike in six quarters. The last time HDFC Bank saw a 19% growth in retail loans was two years ago. “Bank’s initiatives on (the) digital frontand aggressive pricing (particularly in mortgages) has led to higher market share capture by the bank in retail segments,” the CLSA report said.

On the other hand, HDFC Bank’s struggles with its online banking has been a recurrent theme. Hardware challenges have caused repeated app outages and moving to cloud could take 12-18 months, according to analysts at Nirmal Bang, another Mumbai-based broking firm.

For the first time in seven quarters, ICICI Bank’s lending to Indian corporates has grown in double digits, exactly 10% in Jan-March 2021. The management said, in a statement to exchanges that the growth came from loans made to government-owned companies and “well-rated” corporates.

The fastest growing segment, even though it’s the smallest, has been the loans given to small medium businesses (SME). With 32.5% growth, nearly one in every ten rupees lent in the last three months went to SMEs.

ICICI Bank is down and netbanking, debit card transactions, as well as UPI transactions are not working for many customers in India. Many affected customers have raised complaints against the outage on social media. While several people are not able to make any transactions through ICICI Bank's net banking service, some of them are not even receiving a one-time password (OTP) for their transactions. It's possible that this is because of a sudden increase in demand thanks to e-commerce sales; or it could be some other matter entirely, which will play havoc with shoppers trying to take advantage of these sales, as ICICI is one of the biggest banks in India. At the time of writing, the ICICI Bank support team is yet to respond to customer complaints.

Update October 16, 7.50pm: ICICI Bank appears to have resolved the issue although some users are still reporting error messages. What time does walmart hair salon open today 360 has also contacted the bank, which has not given an official statement on the matter.

As per the details available on downtime tracking website DownDetector.in, initial reports around the connectivity issues with ICICI Bank cropped up in the morning, though the complaints reached a peak at around 1:30pm.

ICICI Bank website isn't accessible by many customers

Several affected customers reported issues with the ICICI Bank website and its iMobile app on Twitter. In some instances, people were not able to receive OTPs for their transactions. Similar has been the case with UPI and IMPS transfers. Some users have also reported that the ICICI Bank servers were down since Thursday evening.

Gadgets 360 was able to independently verify the issues reported by various ICICI Bank customers. The bank's site was even inaccessible at the time of filing this story. We attempted netbanking, debit card payments, and UPI payments on popular sites platforms like Amazon, Swiggy, and Zomato, as well as P2P UPI transfers, and received the following alert in the latter case: "No response from CBS".

ICICI Bank did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The outage of ICICI Bank comes at the time when Amazon has kicked off its Great Indian Festival sale. Under the sale, which is live for Prime members and is beginning for regular customers from Saturday, customers using Amazon Pay ICICI card can avail additional cashback. Flipkart is also running its Big Billion Days sale at the same time, which will also be affected in a similar manner. However, at this point, it is not clear if there is any connection between the two events — whether it's because of Amazon sending a spike in demand, or if the bank has ended up playing spoilsport with the sale instead.
