How To Cancel Verizon Phone Service & Tips To Know

Canceling Verizon isn't the most difficult thing in the world, but there are some tips you should know before picking up the phone. Let's dive in.

Verizon provides some of the most reliable wireless coverage for smartphones, but it's also the most costly carrier in the United States. If Verizon's plans have gotten too expensive, someone isn't happy with the service, or anything else in between, knowing how to cancel a subscription with the company and move on to something else is a must.

Founded in 1983, Verizon has long been one of the most recognizable wireless providers in the U.S — largely because it tends to work just about everywhere in the country. While Verizon's coverage lead isn't quite as large as it used to be, it's still one of the better carrier choices out there. The only problem, however, is that Verizon isn't cheap. The company's baseline plan, Start Unlimited, costs $70/month for one service line and includes very few perks outside of the standard unlimited talk, text, and data. For folks that want to go all the way with the Get More Unlimited plan, they'll be paying $90/month for one line — and that's before additional taxes/fees. It's not difficult to find similar plans for less money, and when someone eventually does, there's a certain way Verizon expects people to say goodbye.

Per Verizon's website, customers that want to cancel their service will need to call the Verizon Customer Service line at 1-800-922-0204. While many subscriptions these days can be canceled through an online account page or by using a company's chat feature, Verizon doesn't allow this. It's inconvenient, sure, but it's also an important safety measure to ensure accounts can only be canceled by the people that actually own them.

Things To Know Before Canceling Your Verizon Plan

Before making the call and getting into the nitty-gritty, there are a few tips to keep in mind that'll help the cancellation process go as smoothly as can be. For starters, only the account owner or a designated account manager is allowed to make a cancellation request. Anyone else on the plan won't be allowed to do so, so be sure the right person makes the call. Additionally, Verizon recommends having a few bits of information at the ready to make the process as seamless as possible. This includes the account owner's name, the associated phone number, and either the account PIN or the account owner's social security number.

After the account owner has called Verizon and made the cancellation, phone service won't stop immediately. Instead, it'll continue to be active until the last day of the billing period. If someone cancels Verizon on May 5, but the end of their billing period isn't until May 30, their service will keep working like normal until May 30. For people that have a phone under a payment plan through Verizon, any remaining balance will become due "on your next bill after disconnecting." To pay any remaining bills after canceling Verizon, there's a special 'Disconnected Accounts' page where that can be done.

People should also think about what they want to do with their phone number. Verizon will port people's numbers over to just about any other carrier, but the steps for which this is done varies from company to company. For example, transferring a Verizon number to T-Mobile will be different than taking it to AT&T. As such, it's best to talk with the new carrier to see how the process works. If someone cancels Verizon and doesn't transfer their number, Verizon says it will reassign it to another customer "no sooner than 45 days." Not porting a number over to a different carrier is fine, but people should make sure to give contacts their new phone number as not to accidentally call or text someone else. Canceling any phone service plan can be tricky, but at the very least, these tips will help it be just a little less stressful.

XII.6.Z.1
Processing Payments to Verizon for Landline Services

SECTION OVERVIEW AND POLICIES

This section is intended to instruct Business Units on how to process payments to Verizon only for landline phone services.

Consistent with Section 5.B - Unique Invoice Number Requirements and Section 5.C - Selecting the Appropriate Vendor and Address Sequence of this Chapter, Business Units must assign a unique invoice number for each voucher, and must select the correct Vendor ID and address sequence when processing payments to vendors.

Process and Document Preparation:

  1. Select the correct Vendor ID.
  • When paying Verizon for land line phone services, select one of the four Vendor IDs, as follows:
    • 1000012731 VERIZON BUSINESS NETWORK SERVICES INC – for services provided under statewide contract OGS01-PS63765-1140268
    • 1000039769 VERIZON SELECT SERVICES INC – for services provided via unregulated circuits, which is indicated by the remit-to addresses of PO BOX 4648, Trenton, NJ or PO BOX 101956, Atlanta, GA
    • 1000000049 VERIZON NEW ENGLAND INC - for services provided in the New England area excluding New York State, which is indicated by the remit-to address of PO Box 1100, Albany, NY
    • 1000039132 VERIZON NEW YORK INC – for all other land line phone services.

  • Generally, Business Units should not use the following Vendor IDs to pay Verizon for land line phone services, unless there is a specific business need (e.g., contract) or as directed by the vendor:

  • Vendor IDVendor Name
    1000008868VERIZON WIRELESS
    1000008910VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS INC
    1000040366VERIZON NETWORK INTEGRATION CORP
    1000053444VERIZON THE DIRECTORY STORE
    1000057158VERIZON CREDIT INC
    1100001341VERIZON
    1100014530VERIZON ONLINE LLC
1100029584MARKETING WERKS ON BEHALF OF VERIZON
    1100030396VERIZON TELEPRODUCTS CORP

  1. Select the correct Address Sequence.
  • Vendor IDs 1000012731 (Verizon Business Network Services Inc.), 1000039769 (Verizon Select Services Inc.), and 1000039132 (Verizon New York Inc.) have multiple address sequences. Therefore, the Business Unit should review the invoice and select the correct remit-to address in the Payments tab of the voucher to ensure the payment is sent to the correct address. Failing to select an address in the Payments tab will result in the delivery of the payment to the default remit-to address associated with the Vendor ID. This may be the wrong address for your bill. If vendors are unable to receive State payments, it may delay payment crediting and Business Units may experience unintended service interruptions.

  • If the remit-to address on the invoice does not appear as an available address sequence associated with Vendor IDs 1000012731 (Verizon Business Network Services Inc.), 1000039769 (Verizon Select Services Inc.), 1000000049 (Verizon New England Inc.), or 1000039132 (Verizon New York Inc.), contact the Vendor Management Unit (VMU) at [email protected]
  1. Populate the Invoice Number Field.

Verizon agreed to the following invoice numbering convention to ensure unique invoice numbers on vouchers that pay for land line services:
  • Regular bills: The first 13 digits of the account number (containing the area code, then seven-digit phone number, then the first three-digit code) followed by the ending service date in the format of the two-digit month, the two-digit day, and the two-digit year, all with NO SPACES. For example, to pay a regular Verizon bill for the phone number (518)474-1212 associated with the two three-digit codes 975 486 for the service period ended July 15, 2012, enter the following in the Invoice Number Field: 5184741212975071512.

  • Summary bills: 10-Digit Bill Number followed by the ending service date in the format of the two-digit month, two-digit day, and two-digit year – all with NO SPACES. For example, to pay a Verizon summary bill with the 10-digit bill number 1234567890 for the service period ended July 15, 2012, enter 1234567890071512 in the invoice Number Field.

Note: Business Units must change any Verizon payments in process that reference the incorrect Vendor ID or Address Sequence, or do not reference a unique invoice number using the numbering convention outlined in this section before sending it to the Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) for approval. For payments already sent to OSC, please contact the Voucher Audit Team at [email protected] to have the payment returned to the Business Unit for reprocessing.

How to Pay Your Verizon Bill

skip to main content

Step-by-step instructions for paying your bill with an app, a call, or a web browser

Benjamin Franklin once proposed that “in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Well, we’d like to add one thing to the founding father’s list: bills.

Your Verizon cell phone (or home internet) bill is pretty much unavoidable, but that doesn’t mean it has to be hard to pay.

You may be able to get bill relief from Verizon during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Light Bulb

If you’re experiencing economic hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Verizon has pledged to help you stay connected with bill relief and free perks. You can read more about the relief that Verizon is offering in our updated article.

Here’s a quick rundown of the four main ways you can pay your Verizon Wireless phone bill, from the easiest to the most complicated (yes, you can mail a personal check to Verizon with a stamp and everything).

Ways you can pay your Verizon bill:

Woman paying phone bill

Without further ado, here are some step-by-step instructions for each form of bill pay.

Paying with the My Verizon app

The easiest way for most people to pay their Verizon bill is by using the My Verizon App, which is available for your (brand new …) iOS or Android phone. It is, after all, an app that was built just to help you manage your account.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can pay your bill by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to your account (or create one, if you haven’t yet).
  2. Go to the Menu icon at the top left of your screen and select Bill.
  3. Select the Current Bill tab and you should see the amount due this month.
  4. Select Pay My Bill.
  5. Select your preferred payment method (or select Set Up Autopay if you’d like to make automatic payments in the future).
  6. Type in the amount of your bill you’d like to pay and the date you’d like the payment to go through.
  7. Select Make Payment.

When you’re finished you should see a confirmation, like this one (this screenshot is from a coworker who is enrolled in autopay).

Screenshot of My Verizon App

And you’re set! Bada boom! (I once had an editor tell me I needed a “catchphrase” in my articles. How am I doing?)

Paying on Verizon’s website

If you don’t have access to the My Verizon app (or you just hate typing things on your tiny phone screen with your wide fingers, like me) you can use Verizon’s website to pay your bill. This is also the best way to pay your bill if your account has been suspended for any reason.

Pay online with an active My Verizon account

First, you’ll need to sign in or register for a My Verizon account.

Screenshot of Verizon's Bill Pay Page.

Screenshot from Verizon’s bill pay page

Once you’re signed in, follow these steps to pay your Verizon bill:

  1. Select your payment amount.
  2. Choose a payment method or enter a new payment method.
  3. Type in the amount you’d like to pay and when you’d like the payment to be sent.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Read through the payment information to make sure it’s correct and review the Terms and Conditions (*cough* just click accept *cough*).
  6. Hit Send Payment.

That’s it: bill paid. Woohoo!

Pay online without a My Verizon account

All right, so you don’t have a My Verizon account (or you don’t remember your sign-in information) or your account has been disconnected or suspended. Don’t worry, you can still pay your bill online using a different Verizon web page.

Once you’re on the site, just follow these steps:

  1. Enter the billing zip code and either your Verizon cell phone number or Verizon account number. If you’re trying to pay a bill on a disconnected account you will need the account number and the zip code.
  2. Once you’ve entered your account information, select your payment option you want to use.
  3. Review the transaction to make sure the information is correct.
  4. Select Send Payment.

That should work. But I’ll add one small, anecdotal sidenote here.

I was, for a time, in charge of paying my nephew's Verizon phone bill (long story, don’t ask). I didn’t have access to his phone or My Verizon account, so I tried to use the non-member bill pay page (as described above). It was a nightmare every time, and so I just ended up using the pay-by-phone option (which was also not ideal). The moral of this story is: signing up for a My Verizon account might be worth it in the long run.

Paying by phone

So you want to pay your bill the old school way. Verizon’s got your back.

Here are the steps for paying your Verizon bill by phone:

  1. Call #PMT from your Verizon mobile phone or +1-800-922-0204 from any phone.
  2. Follow the automated prompts to make your payment.

Bill. Payed. Radical! (Are my taglines getting better or worse?)

Is paying by phone not old school enough for you? Do you want an excuse to use your personalized wax letter seal and Contemporary Boutonniere and Garden Corsage stamps? We thought so.

You can pay your Verizon bill by snail mail by following these steps:

  1. Enclose a personal check or money order for the amount of your bill, addressed to “Verizon Wireless.”
  2. Send the payment to your nearest payment address, which you can find using this Verizon webpage.

It might take a while for your payment to arrive, but it’s between the Postal Service and Verizon now.

Paying at a Verizon store

So you want to get up, leave the house, and pay your bill in the store. What a show off.

Just kidding. We’re kidding. Going into the store is a great way to pay your bill. (But Verizon has closed many of its stores amid the COVID-19 pandemic, so make sure that you call before you go to see if the store is open).

Just tell the customer service worker at the retail store that you’d like to pay your bill, and they’ll help you out. While you’re there, you can ask about upgrading to an unlimited data plan.

If all these bill pay shenanigans have exhausted you, then you might want to sign up for Auto Pay. That way, you don’t have to worry about remembering to pay your bill each month.

Now that you know, here are your next steps.

In the past few months, I've used very, very little cellular data. Yet my family has paid around $200 per month for our five-member unlimited-data family plan on AT&T. That seems ... silly, to put it nicely. If you've thought the same, well, you have a few options.

First, you can suspend your phone service. It lets the carrier hold onto your phone number and account, and while you still pay a small monthly fee, it's a way to save a little money month to month. In this climate, every dollar counts. The downside? You lose cellular data connectivity, and you cannot make or receive phone calls or texts.

But your phone will be able to connect to Wi-Fi networks, like the one you might have in your home, allowing you to use almost all your usual apps. To get around the SMS and calling issue, you could use an instant-messaging app like iMessage or WhatsApp as well as audio- or video-calling apps like FaceTime and Google Duo over Wi-Fi. For less-drastic options, we have a few alternative and affordable carriers for you to consider.

Suspending Service vs. Shutting off Data

We have instructions below on how to suspend your data plan if you're on one of the major US networks. If you use another carrier, like US Cellular, check the company's support pages (or ask a customer representative) if there's a way to suspend your service.

Most carriers also have an option to shut off data to one of your phone lines on the account. That is not the same as suspending service. By shutting off data, you'll still be charged your plan's monthly rate. It's more a measure for when you want to stop your kid from watching too much Riverdale.

Suspending service means your phone will no longer connect to your carrier's network, and you cannot make any calls or send texts. It's not a permanent solution as most carriers limit the length of suspension to a few months, after which service resumes automatically and you're back to being charged your full rate.

For Verizon Subscribers

If you have trouble paying your Verizon wireless bill, contact customer service. The carrier says it will not terminate service or charge late fees if you can't pay bills due to "disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic." This will stay in effect until June 30, 2020.

If you still need to suspend service, you can easily do it through Verizon's website or the My Verizon app.

Verizon offers three types of suspension: reduced-rate billing, without billing, or suspended with billing. You can suspend your line without billing only if you have lost your device or if you are in the military. For a reduced rate, you'll need to suspend your service using the Other Reason option, which is typically used for travel or illness and hospitalization.

Go with the reduced-rate billing, but know that Verizon will still charge you $10 per month for up to 90 days during a 12-month period. If you are paying for a device in monthly installments, you'll still get charged for it. Your contract and upgrade eligibility dates will be extended for the length of time your service is suspended.

In the My Verizon app, the one you use to check and pay your monthly bill, head to Devices > Manage > Controls > Suspend Device > Vacation or other reason, and choose Reduced Rate. On the web, choose the line you want to suspend, click on Other Reason, choose Reduced Rate, and tap Suspend Selected Line.

You can find more information in this FAQ, and there's a helpful video that includes details on how to reconnect. (Go to this website to reconnect or follow the same instructions you used for suspending a line above and just click Resume Service.)

For AT&T Subscribers

AT&T's process is very similar to Verizon's, though the language is a little vague. The carrier says the capability to suspend service is available for AT&T Mobile Share and Unlimited postpaid wireless customers. Head to this website to suspend service. You'll need to choose a reason, likely Vacation or Other Reason. Follow the prompts. Do not block your device. (Do that only if it was stolen.)

The carrier doesn't specify this anywhere on its site, but you will still be billed for any device payments you owe. You will be charged a reduced rate of $10 per month, but this is not necessarily guaranteed. Plus, service and billing will resume as normal after six months. You're limited to this option once a year, and your upgrade eligibility dates will be pushed out however long your line was suspended.

Thankfully, AT&T has a specific option for folks struggling to pay bills during the pandemic. You can submit a waiver for late fees and overage charges, but the deadline is June 30. You can find out more details here.

For T-Mobile Subscribers

T-Mobile lets you suspend a line on your account (if you're the primary account holder) twice in a 12-month period for up to 90 days each. From the T-Mobile app, head to the Account tab, select the line you want to suspend, and choose Temporary suspension. Follow the prompts to suspend a line. These steps are the same when you want to restore service.

Any monthly device payments or device protection plans will continue. If you have an individual account, you'll be charged $10 per month instead of the cost of your regular monthly plan, and if you have a family plan, you'll be charged $10 per month for each suspended line. You'll find more details in this handy FAQ.

T-Mobile is offering coronavirus updates here. There are a few perks people can claim, like the ability to add 10 gigabytes of mobile hot spot data, though many of these expire June 30, 2020.

For Sprint Subscribers

Sprint doesn't have a lot of information on its website about suspending service. The carrier had a service called Seasonal Standby that let you pay a lesser rate to maintain your account, but it's no longer available. After searching the app and website to no avail, I asked a customer representative (and a spokesperson) how to suspend service and was told that it's not possible to do it online. You'll need to talk to a customer representative. There will be a reduced monthly fee when you suspend service, but exactly what it is will depend on your plan.

If you're having trouble making payments, contact Sprint here, and it says it will try to help. This offer will end on June 30. You can get more updates on Sprint and the pandemic here.

Sprint and T-Mobile have merged, and the Sprint branding is fading away soon, so there's a good chance the T-Mobile instructions will work for existing Sprint subscribers in the not-too-distant future.

Consider a Cheaper Network

If suspending service doesn't sound right for you, it might be a good time to switch carriers. Below are a few options we like. Remember, when switching carriers you can always port your existing cellphone number.

If you buy something using links in our stories, we may earn a commission. This helps support our journalism. Learn more. Please also consider subscribing to WIRED.

  • Google Fi: Google charges you $20 per line and $10 per gigabyte (that includes unlimited talk and text). You get charged for the data you use, so if you use only 1 GB in a month, your bill will be $30. Best of all, you can pause service and resume it whenever you want. There's also Bill Protection, so after you use 6 GB, you won't get charged more. That means the max your bill will hit is $80 on a single line. The app is very easy to use, you get access to T-Mobile's network (and other networks if you have a Fi-supported phone), as well as the same data rate abroad.

  • Mint Mobile: This provider has three-, six-, and 12-month plans. Whichever range you pick, you can decide on one of three data buckets (3 GB, 8 GB, or 12 GB per month). It includes unlimited talk and text, mobile hot spot, and you'll need to bring your own unlocked phone. It uses T-Mobile's LTE network. The most affordable option gets you 3 gigabytes of data per month for three months, all for $45. If you stick with the same plan after the first three months, you'll be charged the regular three-month rate for that data allotment, which is $75 total. Still, that's six months of data for $120.

  • Visible: Visible is a sub-brand under Verizon, and it has one plan: $40 per month for unlimited data, talk, and text. You can bring your own phone or buy one from Visible. The service piggybacks off Verizon's 4G LTE network, and mobile hot spot access for your laptop or another device is included, but speeds are capped at 5 Mbps. Visible's data plan was originally capped to 5 Mbps as well, but since mid-2019, the cap was removed for a "limited time" and hasn't yet returned.

  • Ting: Ting is very customizable and affordable. You start by choosing the number of lines you need (1 line is $6), then a certain number of talk minutes and texts (choose no usage if you barely call or text people). Remember, using internet services like Facebook Messenger or FaceTime won't count toward your calling and texting limits. And then you choose your data allotment, ranging from no usage to more than 2 gigabytes. It's meant for people who use very little data, because after 2 GB you'll pay $20 plus $10 per additional gigabyte. There are no contracts or cancellation fees, and you can suspend service if you want.

  • Metro by T-Mobile: Metro by T-Mobile, as the name suggests, is owned by T-Mobile and uses the carrier's network. Its most affordable option is its $30 plan, which comes with 2 GB of data and unlimited talk and text. Its most expensive plan is still relatively affordable, offering unlimited data, talk, and text, as well as 15 GB of hot spot data for $60 per month. That includes perks like 100 GB of Google One online storage and Amazon Prime.

How to lower Verizon bill and save hundreds of dollars annually

Verizon Wireless is an American telecommunications company headquartered in New York. Offering a wide variety of wireless products and services, Verizon is one of the two biggest telecommunications operators in the USA, standing shoulder to shoulder with AT&T Inc.

Here are some figures that put the sheer scope of Verizon Wireless into perspective:

While these stats are certainly jaw-dropping, there's a more commonly known fact about Verizon an average American will tell you right off the bat—their services are among the priciest in the telecommunications industry. Between concealed expenses and unexpected fees, verizon cell pay bill for Verizon services have developed a bit of a reputation for causing headaches.

On a more positive note, there's a wide range of ways you can lower your Verizon bill and prevent it from making as big of a monthly dent verizon cell pay bill your finances. Even better, these ways won’t require much work on your end, making them an excellent opportunity to save some of your hard-earned money.

How DoNotPay can help you manage your Verizon bills

While everything you'll find in this guide to lowering Verizon bills is presented in a do-it-yourself fashion, there's no escaping the simple fact you'll have to set some time aside to follow through on any of our advice.

If you decide to use DoNotPay, though, you can take all time-consuming processes out of the equation.

If you’re trying to manage your Verizon bills, you can use DoNotPay as a highly efficient middleman and save yourself bundles of time. Here’s a quick demonstration of how simple using DoNotPay is:

  1. Log in to DoNotPay through your web browser
  2. Click on Corona Relief
  3. Select Verizon bills
  4. Choose what you’d like our app to do on your behalf (e.g., write an email draft for a waiver, contact the Verizon’s support team, extend the payment due date, etc.)
  5. Provide details and contact information needed to perform the requested service

Once you've given the go-ahead, our team will complete the task you assigned to us before getting back to you in a timely fashion. If you've asked us to write up a draft for an email you can send to Verizon, though, we'll have that ready for you in a matter of seconds.

Understanding how your Verizon bills work

Before first commonwealth bank ardmore boulevard start exploring how to lower Verizon bills, you should do your homework to truly understand how they are calculated. This is easier said than done—if there’s one bill that’s even more needlessly complex than pay-TV invoices, it’s the one for wireless services. Verizon bills come hand-in-hand with a long line of fees, taxes, and surcharges that share two traits—they're all confusing and come out of your pocket

Once you sign up for a mobile plan with Verizon, you agree to pay $40–75 per month for the service. You might be thinking how that's a fair deal (which, indeed, it is), but when bills start piling on, you'll see that the verizon cell pay bill price is more than 50% on top of the agreed rate. In order to explain this, we'll have to cut through the heap of confusing and hidden costs by breaking down Verizon bills and explaining what each of their sections mean.

The most straightforward pieces of information are usage charges:

  1. Voice—This is where charges for voice minutes used are listed. While most Verizon packages include unlimited minutes, some plans still meter minutes.
  2. Messaging—These are the charges for text messages you sent during the billing cycle. Most Verizon plans include unlimited texting.
  3. Data—This shows how much Internet data was used by each individual line on the account. This is where most overage fees spiral out of control, so use Wi-Fi whenever possible.

Let’s take a look at the more confusing aspects of Verizon bills:

  1. The Verizon plan—This is the quoted price you agreed to pay when you signed the contract, as well as a sad reminder of how good the initial offer looked like.
  2. Access discount—If you’ve negotiated a discount with Verizon Wireless (more on this later), it will pop up in this section of the bill. Keep in mind that discounts only apply to the base cost of the plan, so any additional charges for smartphones or data use are charged independently.
  3. Smartphone line access—Verizon charges you $20 each month (per each line on the account) for having a smartphone. If you live in a household of five, and all of you have smartphones, that's $100 that come out of your pocket each month simply for enjoying the fruits of smartphone technology.
  4. Device payment agreement—If you bought a phone through Verizon and agreed to pay for it through regular bills, that fee will appear here.
  5. Fed Universal Service Charge—The FCC’s Universal Service Fund supplies programs that help expand phone/internet coverage to low-income Americans. While this tax should, in theory, be paid by telecom operators, Verizon prefers to recoup that cost from consumers. A sound business move that, in all fairness, is made by all telecommunications companies.
  6. Regulatory charges—These are annual fees FCC collects from telephone operators. Credit one platinum visa like the USF charge above, it makes more sense for Verizon to take this fee out of your pocket than pay for it on its own.
  7. Administrative charges—This fee recoups the costs of Verizon's all-around operations. Thanks to it, the company is able to pay property taxes, facility fees, and similar regulatory obligations.

As you can see, you do verizon cell pay bill only pay for the devices and the network but also for the Verozon's taxes, the company's legal obligations, customer service, local taxation, etc. Once everything adds up, the initial monthly fee you signed up for seems like a distant memory.

The most common errors with Verizon bills

The most clear-cut indicator that there's an error on your Verizon bill is that something's wrong with the amount of money they're expecting from you.

If something seems off, you should inspect all the sections of the bill we listed above. Are there overcharges in your usage? Is there an uptick in your base cost? Are they charging you with a device fee by mistake?

No matter what you think went wrong, here's the bottom line—as a user, you have the right to call Verizon's support team and ask them to explain just about anything presented on your bill. If you think there's something amiss or out of the ordinary, write to the support team or call them by dialing 800-922-0204.

If you’re not interested in spending most of your weekend in phone queues, you can sign up for DoNotPay, and we’ll get in touch with Verizon for you!

Save money by going with more affordable alternatives to Verizon that use the same cell towers

Here's an overview of affordable cell providers currently using Verizon's cell towers:

Can you talk your way into a better deal? Here’s how to negotiate better prices for your Verizon bills

While it's possible to negotiate a lower cell phone bill, it's not necessarily easy. Not all of us are skilled negotiators, but there's one important thing going your way. Customer loyalty in the telecom industry is waning at a steady pace, so companies need to be competitive to survive. This obviously gives you an upper hand as all providers, including Verizon, will rather say yes to a smaller fee than lose a customer.

In case you feel like negotiating a smaller cell bill is not worth your while, here's a breakdown of how much money you can save by boxing out a better deal:

Company (plan)

Initial pricePrice with a 35% discount Monthly savingsTotal annual savings

Verizon (Start Unlimited)

$70$45.50$24.50$294

T-Mobile (Unlimited Essentials)

$60$39$21

$252

Sprint (Unlimited Basic)$60$39$21

$252

AT&T (Unlimited & More)$65$42.25$22.75

$273

Of course, it's far easier to say "go get a 35% discount" than it is to actually do it—luckily, you don’t have to do it on your own. DoNotPay is by far the easiest way to negotiate a better deal with Verizon as we don’t mind going back and forth with operators for as long as it takes to secure you the best deal possible.

If you decide to do it all on your own, though, here are some good practices that can tilt the scales in your favor:

  1. Have a clear picture of your carrier’s competitor rates
  2. Know exactly what you want
  3. Prepare a script to help keep you calm
  4. Always take notes during negotiations
  5. Don't be afraid to jump ship
  6. Never lose your cool
  7. Negotiate during off-peak hours
  8. Be persistent

Have a clear picture of your carrier’s competitor rates

Before you start negotiating, you need to know all the cards in your hand. Once you find several better deals from competitors, call your customer service representative to talk about the specifics of other offers. They'll have to match the offer or risk losing you to competitors.

Know exactly what you want

When you start negotiating with Verizon's operators, don’t just ask for a discount—ask for a specific discount. This will require you to do a bit of homework and research realistic prices, but it will allow you to get the upper hand by setting a starting point for negotiations.

Prepare a script to help keep you calm

If you're scared of getting nervous or being caught off guard with sudden questions, you should make a script of what you intend to say. Try to come up with a meaningful reply to what the operators have to say so that you never lose control over the conversation.

Always take notes during negotiations

Write down the names of the operators you speak with and note down everything you discuss with them. Log the time and date for every call, especially if you were promised some kind of a discount.

Don't be afraid to jump ship

Operators deal with people on an everyday basis, so they're very good at spotting empty threats. If you’re able to demonstrate that you're actually willing to switch carriers, your position in the negotiation will greatly improve.

Never lose your cool

Remember—the worst thing they can say is no. That's verizon cell pay bill there’s no need to stress out. Besides keeping your cool, also do verizon cell pay bill best to stay polite. Most customer service representatives spend their days talking to frustrated people, so the nicer you are with them, the bigger the likelihood of getting what you want.

Negotiate during off-peak hours

Try not to go after a better deal while the operators have their hands full. If they have six people on hold and you're trying to get a discount, chances are you will be pushed aside. Call them in the morning as that's usually when slow hours take place.

Be persistent

Chances are you'll have to spend several hours on the phone while you speak with multiple representatives. It usually takes a few calls to get through to the person in charge of negotiating discounts, plus companies are banking on you giving up after a call of two. Don’t.

Use DoNotPay to get an extension date for your Verizon bills

If you need some time before you’re ready to pay your Verizon bill, asking for an extension date is a logical option. This is another grand opportunity to put the usefulness of DoNotPay to the test.

Instead of waiting in phone queues (or in lines, if you decide to talk to someone in person), you can use our app to quickly put together an email asking for an extension date. All you need to do is give us the necessary info (the dates, your name, etc.), and we'll do the rest.

Ask for a waiver on late fees for your Verizon bills

DoNotPay can also send a waiver letter to Verizon asking for late fees to be waived. Like everything else with our app, this, too, entails an extremely simple process.

All you need to do is give us the essential info we need to put together a waiver letter for you, and that's it—you can then kick back and wait for us to get first national bank fort smith arkansas phone number job done for you.

Bottom of the barrel solutions—use a loan or a credit card to pay off your Verizon bills

If you're having a hard time keeping up with Verizon bills and you've exhausted all other options, you can always consider taking out a quick loan or putting it all on your credit card.

Be warned, though—there’s a reason why banks will welcome both of these moves with open arms.

While these solutions will help your situation in a pinch, you'll end up losing more money than what you currently owe. You're better off not paying the bill at all, at least for a little while—being in debt with Verizon is a much better option than owing money to banks, as the chapter below clearly illustrates.

What happens if you don’t pay your Verizon bills?

If you've been ignoring Verizon bills for a while, the first thing they'll do is try to get a hold of you somehow. If they're unable to reach you, your phone(s) will most likely be shut off for non-payment.

Keep in mind that shutting you off is the last resort, and Verizon does not want to lose a customer. At the end of the day, Verizon wants you to pay your bills. They're aware that you’re more likely to do that if you are getting service, so you should always try to work something out rather than shut off Verizon's operators. Call them and give an idea of how much you can pay if you can't cover the entire bill.

If you decide to ignore the bill completely, anything you owe will likely be transferred to collections within 30-60 days.

DoNotPay Protects Your Privacy and Finances

Sharing your credit card details online comes with certain risks, and it’s getting more difficult to tell good and bad websites apart. With DoNotPay’s virtual credit card generator, you will be able to protect your identity and bank account from cyber scammers.

That’s it: verizon cell pay bill paid.

  2. Once you’ve entered your verizon cell pay bill information, select your payment option you want to use.

Is paying by phone not old verizon cell pay bill enough for you? Do you want an excuse to use your personalized wax letter seal and Contemporary Boutonniere and Garden Corsage stamps? We thought so.

You can pay your Verizon bill by snail mail by following these steps:

  1. Enclose a personal check or money order for the amount of your bill, addressed to “Verizon Wireless.”
  2. Send the payment to your nearest payment address, which you can find using this Verizon webpage.

It might take a while for your payment to arrive, but how to activate a new cash app card between the Postal Service and Verizon now.
