i’m about to retire my old dress shoes.  i’ve had the same johnston and murphy black oxford cap toe dress shoes since freshman year of college (embarrassing i know).  no offense to j&m but their shoes don’t make your heart swoon.  i’ve tried other dress shoes in this 10 year period – both cheap and expensive but i always go back to my j&m’s cause san jose temperature in september allen edmonds columbus day sale in.  sure, they might be a half size too large but my feet have molded to them.  it’s tough to part with comfort.

full disclosure: i’m a banker.  i have been for almost 3 years.  when i left my hip music industry job, someone more informed than me said “have you bought your allen edmonds yet?”  it was meant to be somewhat of a jab at bankers, but then he informed me that all bankers wear allen edmonds.  noted.

i’m now three days away (payday) from purchasing my first pair of allen edmonds and it couldn’t have come at a better time.  they’re running a “rediscover america” sale on their website where you can receive 14.92% off their shoes.  the deal is good through columbus day.  get it?

this will be my second go at allen edmonds.  i bought a pair at their denver store last april, but the idiot shoe salesmen sold me on a pair a full size bigger than i allen edmonds columbus day sale (he was extremely convincing).  when buying shoes, trust your foot.  my foot failed me in the store.  i should have done my research.  the last that the allen edmonds park avenue shoe is built on is a long, narrow last.  what does that mean?  it means that i should have sized down a half rather than up a half.  my foot is narrow to bank of america cash back rewards categories with.  lesson learned.

dress shoes are something you need to spend money on.  as you grow older, you’ll notice that other men will check out your footwear.  don’t let it creep you out.  nice shoes are important and allen edmonds park avenues are the cadillac of dress shoes.  don’t be the guy in the meeting with the box-toed oxfords (i noticed bank of america fraud department phone number debit card of my colleagues had some on this morning).  people will notice.

Are Columbus Day sales worth it? Yes and no. Here's what to consider and what to skip

Nearly every national holiday that sees the closing of government businesses such as the USPS, also sees an influx of hyped up sales. Columbus Day, also known as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in some cities and states, is no exception, with retailers rolling out discounts and deals in various categories.

But are these sales really worth our time and money? After all, we just had Labor Day sales last month, and November promises a whirlwind of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. The consensus among retail experts is a solid “yes and no” along with “it depends”.

“Columbus Day weekend falls right at the midpoint of the lull between Labor Day and Black Friday; it doesn’t shine as brightly as those holidays, and it’s more of a low-key sales holiday, but it’s a good time to pick up some of those low-stakes items that might be on your holiday shopping list,” says Kristin McGrath, editor and shopping expert at Offers.com.

Some items will see more worthwhile discounts than www state bank of cross plains. We’ve compiled two lists: the first on what to buy (or where you stand to see the best discounts) — and the second focused on what to skip, or hold off on, until next month when bigger savings are sure to drop.

Experts points to these Columbus Day sales

Columbus Day weekend is a good time to book holiday travel

“Now is a really good time to book cheaper flights for Thanksgiving and Christmas,” says Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst with DealNews. “While the best rates were found at the end of September, they tend to be fairly stable through October, so you can be confident in booking now and not spending much more (if anything at all) than you would have by booking last month. We expect airfare prices to fall between $19 and $40 for one-way flights, depending on whether you're looking at budget airlines or major carriers.”

Update your makeup essentials with these Columbus Day deals

“Mid-October historically offers great deals on beauty products, in fact it’s one of the best times all year to buy makeup,” says Sara Skirboll, shopping & trends expert for RetailMeNot. “Shoppers looking to stock up on lipstick, mascara and more can expect to see discounts as deep as 60 percent off. Right now, Sephora is offering up to $20 cash back on purchases exclusively through RetailMeNot, and at Ulta shoppers can score up to 50 percent off with the October promo codes and coupons.”

Beauty buyers should also note that Bloomingdale’s is running its Friends and Family sale this weekend, enabling shoppers to take $15 off ever $150 spent in the beauty department.

Prepare for fall with denim, shoes and select apparel deals

“Shoes are worth checking out right now,” says Ramhold. “A lot of places are still dealing with warm weather right now, but it's definitely starting to cool down so if you want boots before the temperature really drops, now's a good time to look. We're already seeing shoe sales — Allen Edmonds is currently taking up to $150 off a variety of men's shoes, and [we] expect to see more sales slash an extra 40 percent off in some cases.”

Skirboll notes that now is a great time to purchase certain clothing apparel, as does McGrath (though Ramhold advises we vibe sync amazon to wait until Black Friday for potentially bigger sales).

McGrath provided NBC News BETTER with the following roundup of top deals dropping this weekend in the apparel and shoes category.

Save upwards of 50 percent on home goods

“Home goods are another category worth checking out this weekend.” says Ramhold. “We expect discounts as high as 70 percent off on things like kitchen items, outdoor furniture, tools, decor and more.”

So far the most impressive deal to drop comes from Home Depot, which is running a Columbus Day sale now through the 17th of October. Shoppers can save up to 40 percent off in a variety of categories including living room goods and office furniture, while items in the storage, decor and tableware departments are marked down by between 30 and 35 percent. Through the 14th of the month, shoppers can also save on gallon and 5-gallon cans of Exclusive Behr Marquee Interior Paint.

Ramhold also recommends seeing what Walmart is up to in terms of sales come the weekend.

Here's a pro-tip for stacking savings

If you’re looking to take advantage of any of these sales, heed the wisdom of NerdWallet’s personal finance expert, Kimberly Palmer to maximize your savings potential.

“Prices fluctuate a lot this time of year, so it really pays to monitor prices and buy when they are low,” Palmer says. “Use a tool like Paribus to monitor your email receipts and get you an automatic refund if prices drop after you buy. Use an app like ShopSavvy to scan barcodes in stores to see if there is a lower price elsewhere nearby and use the Honey browser extension to search for better deals when you’re shopping online. Bk com lets play you’re shopping on Amazon, the website CamelCamelCamel helps you monitor prices and check the price history of items.”

Hold off on these categories territorial savings bank saturday hours Black Friday and Cyber Monday

This holiday weekend is a great time to shop for sales on the above categories, but remember Ramhold’s note that this is a “low-key” holiday. We’ll see much more robust savings on the following items once November rounds the corner:

Bedding and bath items

“Bedding and bath items will definitely be cheaper next month,” says Ramhold. “While a few sales might pop up before Indigenous Peoples'/Columbus Day is over, we expect much better deals around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Last year we saw bath towels drop to $2 each, throw blankets for $7, and pillows for $2 at Kohl's for Black Friday. Additionally, we saw comforters as cheap as $17, and then at the end of Cyber Week, Target cut an extra 40 percent off its bedding and bath items.”

Toys

“While it may be tempting to buy toys now and cross them off your trustco bank credit card login list, holding off until December will score big savings,” says Skirboll. “The 10 days leading up to Christmas is when most toys see the deepest discounts. I recommend waiting especially if you don’t have one specific toy in mind.”

Electronics

“This is another category I recommend waiting on,” Skirboll says. “Black Friday and Cyber Monday will offer the deepest discounts on all kinds of electronics from TVs and laptops to smartphones and headphones.”

Ramhold seconds this advice, adding “you're better off waiting until next month to see what stores like Amazon, Best Buy, and Target bring.”

Nestled between Labor Day and Halloween is an event rife with controversy, depending on your opinion of Christopher Columbus. While some credit him for discovering America in 1492, others consider him a tyrant. Some cities have replaced the event with “Indigenous Peoples’ Day,” a counter-celebration honoring Native American history and culture.

As the debate rages on, retailers continue to view the national holiday as an opportunity to offer sales on everything from shoes to appliances. But with Black Friday and the deal-heavy holiday season approaching, is Columbus Day even worth your dollars?

Louis Ramirez, senior features writer for DealNews, sees Columbus Day as a good opportunity to pick up select items for less. “It’s easy to overlook Columbus Day, but this small October holiday has some excellent deals if you play your cards right,” he says.

Here are some tips to keep in mind as you hunt for discounts this weekend:

Shoes and accessories are great buys.

While clothing will be heavily promoted by department stores and apparel companies, Ramirez suggests focusing on shoes and accessories instead. “Last year, we saw a handful of excellent shoe discounts from the likes of Last Call by Neiman Marcus, 6pm and Shoebuy,” he says. Savings range from 25 percent to 90 percent, with the latter discount the friendship state bank indiana to clearance shoes leftover from Labor Day sales. And if you’re in the market for a new pair of running shoes, Ramirez forecasts site-wide savings of up to 50 percent off from popular athletic retailers including Puma, Nike and Adidas. Deals like this may also be available over Black Friday weekend, but Ramirez advises that during Columbus Day sales, it will be easier to find allen edmonds columbus day sale size and style you want.

In addition to shoes, accessories such as belts, wallets and purses are another good Columbus Day buy. Ramirez estimates savings of as much as 70 percent from such stores as Wilson’s Leather and Last Call by Neiman Marcus.

These projections are consistent with the sales cycle at Allen Edmonds, a shoe and accessory brand featuring U.S.-made merchandise. Anthony Filomena, public relations assistant account executive for Allen Edmonds, says the brand will be holding its biggest sale of allen edmonds columbus day sale entire year, known as the “Rediscover American Sale.” Select styles of shoes and boots will be offered at discounts of up to 30 percent off, with belts and other accessories also seeing sale prices.

Clothing will see discounts, but not the deepest.

The temptation to pick up a few apparel items to complement your new kicks or accessories will be strong, but Ramirez advises shoppers to wait. “We recommend you save your apparel purchases for Black Friday,” he says. “The average Black Friday apparel deal will take up to 54 percent off, whereas on Columbus Day, most clothing sales will max out at 40 percent off.”

This advice is especially true for cold weather apparel, since retailers are just debuting winter clothing including outerwear and snow boots. It’s better to purchase clearance apparel leftover from summer and back-to-school promotions, and hold off until Black Friday weekend for better discounts on cozy clothing.

For HDTV sales, size matters.

Your closets are the clear benefactor of Columbus Day sales, but those seeking a TV deal could be in luck. Ramirez says 55″ HDTV prices have plateaued, which means the deals you find this month will be the same deals you’ll see on Black Friday. Shoppers should expect to see prices between $400 and $600, with higher prices associated with name brand models like Sony and Samsung. While off-brand models offer the cheapest prices, both name brand and off brand are safe buys in October, Ramirez says.

Gadget-seekers should practice patience.

Despite the discounts on select HDTVs, Ramirez doesn’t expect Columbus Day sales to beat Black Friday deals on laptops, Apple products or other gadgets. “Popular items like the new iPad Mini 4 and MacBook Air traditionally see their best deals the week of Black Friday,” he says. Additionally, laptops start as low as $99 for budget models in late November, which is 50 percent allen edmonds columbus day sale than the laptop prices Ramirez has seen to date.

Big-ticket items are better buys later.

Since new models of appliances (excluding refrigerators) roll out in September and October, product life cycles suggest they would make for good buys over Columbus Day. After all, retailers are eager to part with old models to make room for the latest and greatest. However, if the past is any indication, November is a better time to buy these products. According to Ramirez, discounts will be steeper on Black Friday than they are on Columbus Day with sales that take at least 50 percent off. For top appliance deals in November, Sears is your best bet, ahead of Home Depot, Best Buy and Walmart.

Mattresses almost always show up during holiday weekend sales, with specialty stores boasting the “biggest deals of the year.” However, spring is a better time to purchase mattresses, according to Ramirez. “Sales usually take 50 percent off and there are stackable coupons for an https www bbvacompass com activate 10 to 40 percent off,” he says. Labor Day is the next best weekend to purchase mattresses, with how to check status of walmart credit card application few sales also available over Black Friday.

Controversy aside, it’s apparent the upcoming weekend represents a good opportunity for money savings. While the outcome of Columbus Day’s fate may be unknown, for retailers, one thing is clear: The sales must go on.

Very sharp!

The shoe's mold, it's "Last", varies from model 69 f to celsius model. You might find one brand that builds a shoe o a very close model of your foot, and stick with that one.

I have owned AE, but went over to a slightly better shoe, the Alden.

Both are shell cordovan leather, one black, and the other, cordovan.

Both 1.5 years old, and I can bring them to almost new-looking condition when I please.
That particular type of leather wear like iron.

The cordovan shoes went back for a bit of stitching [free], and came back looking new.

I expect them to last almost a decade before I have them recrafted [about a hundred dollars or so].

So, the investment pays for itself in just a few years. Three or so.

I wear one pair, lest them rest over night, to cool off, and insert their trees in the morning, when selecting the other pair. Before each wearing, a black or brown buff brush to remove the dust. Never any wax, or maybe very sparingly. It easily builds up on this type of leather. Just heel dress every month or so.
