The New York Mets are so desperate to create interest in their wretched team they have resorted to a Mr. Met bobblehead give away to try to draw fans.

For the home opener on Friday.

Tickets are still available on the team website and other sites such as stubhub.com and seatgeek.com.

The lack of fan interest in the home opener comes just months are after September games in Citi Field were played in a near-empty ballpark.

And in the capital of capitalism, the best seats in the house were going unsold. Field-level tickets behind home plate were available for a nifty $342.

Padres righthander Aaron Harang says he got "that little tingle in my gut" when manager Bud Black told him during spring training that he would start Tuesday's home opener against the Matt holliday bobblehead Francisco Giants.

It's a special assignment because Harang attended Patrick Henry High, just up the hill from the Padres' onetime home, Qualcomm Stadium, and then pitched at San Diego State. He made five opening-day starts for the Cincinnati Reds before joining his hometown Padres as a free agent in the offseason.

Matt Holliday had matt holliday bobblehead than a tingle in his gut. The St. Louis slugger said he'd been having stomach pains for more than a week before undergoing an appendectomy on Friday. He also told the Cardinals he didn't need to go on the 15-day disabled list.

The Cards played a man short for the third straight game Monday night, but could have Holliday back by the weekend.

A win at home over hapless Houston (0-3) on Tuesday night would give Cincinnati its first 4-0 start since 1990, when the Reds last won a World Series championship.

Brewers righthander Zack Greinke continues to recover from a cracked rib. But Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke says there's still no timetable for his return.

Giants closer Brian Wilson threw to hitters on Sunday and could be activated on Wednesday. Wilson has been on the DL with a strained muscle in his left side.

Several Green Bay Packers threw out the first pitch at Milwaukee's Miller Park on Monday.

From Hall of Famers to Hello Kitty, ranking each MLB team's bobblehead giveaways

Apr 26, 2016
  • pay home depot credit card bill by phone height="40">

    David SchoenfieldESPN Senior Writer

Bobbleheads are still a popular promotional item at your local big league park. And why not? Who doesn't love a bobblehead? I have an Ichiro Suzuki and Mike Cameron in my office, along with Mark Messier, who played some other goofy sport in which the players slide around on ice. A good bobblehead list should focus on the current roster, but if a team wants to commemorate its history, that's fine as well, especially if they can find a creative way to do so.

With that in mind, here are my rankings for this season's bobblehead giveaways (lists generated from the promotional schedule on each team's website):

1. Seattle Mariners:Nelson Cruz, Kyle Seager, Felix Hernandez, Robinson Cano, Ken Griffey Jr. Hall of Fame

That's a nice list of stars, but Griffey's Hall of Fame bobblehead puts the Matt holliday bobblehead over the top. The Mariners are certainly milking everything out of Junior's Hall of Fame induction: There's the bobblehead night on Aug. 5, his jersey retirement ceremony and replica Hall of Fame plaque giveaway on Aug. 6, and then replica jersey day on Aug. 7. I will forgive them, though: Without him, there may not even be a team in Seattle.

2. Chicago Cubs:Anthony Rizzo, Jake Arrieta, Kris Bryant, Joe Maddon, Kyle Schwarber, 2016 World Series Champs

OK, I made that last one up. Rizzo's bobblehead celebrates his tarp catch. Let's just hope next year they don't do a bobblehead of that creepy mime from spring training.

3. Atlanta Braves: Skip Carey and Pete Van Wieren, Chipper Rescues Freddie ATV bobblehead, player to be named, Andruw Jones Spiderman Catch, Chipper Jones 2000 All-Star, Bobby Cox Carried Off

OK, the Chipper Jones and Freddie Freeman bobblehead -- honoring that great moment in Braves history when Freeman got stuck in a snowstorm for five hours, finally to be rescued by Chipper on his ATV -- may now be my second-favorite one ever, behind only the "Kent Hrbek pulls Ron Gant off first base" bobblehead commemorating the infamous play from the 1991 World Series. That alone almost pushes the Braves to No. 1, but while they're celebrating the final year at Turner Field, it's not a good sign when the only active player you have black friday sale victoria secret pink "to be named."

4. Los Angeles Dodgers:Clayton Kershaw, Dave Roberts, Adrian Gonzalez, Don Newcombe, Dusty Baker, 1981 World Series Tri-MVP (Ron Cey, Steve Yeager, Pedro Guerrero), Kenta Maeda, Howie Kendrick

Good list, mixing the team's present with its past. Missed opportunity though: A Chase Utley sliding bobblehead. (I kid, I kid!)

5. Kansas City Royals: Ned Yost, Kendrys Morales, Alcides Escobar, Wade Davis, Salvador Perez

These are billed as commemorative postseason bobbleheads, so that's cool, but if that's the case, how can you not have an Eric Hosmer Mad Dash one?

6. San Francisco Giants:Matt Duffy, Brandon Crawford, Madison Bumgarner, Hunter Pence, Mike Krukow

If you're Joe Panik, are you ticked off that you only get a backpack instead of a bobblehead?

7. New York Yankees: Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle Triple Crown, Didi Gregorius, Yankees Peanut, Dellin Betances

Ruth, Mantle . Gregorius. One of these names is not like the others. The website said Yankees Peanut, but I wonder if it's supposed to say Yankees Peanuts as in the Charlie Brown characters. But maybe Yankees fans just really like their peanuts.

8. St. Louis Cardinals:Adam Wainwright, Trevor Rosenthal, Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina, Matt Holliday, Cardinals Vintage, Eddie Gaedel

They could be ranked higher, but I have a couple of issues here. The Wainwright/Molina one depicts the final out of the 2006 Matt holliday bobblehead Series, so that's a neat one; no problem there. But the Rosenthal one comes with a sound chip; I don't want my bobbleheads talking to me. Matt holliday bobblehead lord, no. Then there's the Eddie Gaedel one. He's the 3-foot-7 slugger who Bill Veeck let bat in a gimmick stunt. I love the idea of an Eddie Gaedel bobblehead . except he played for the Browns, not the Cardinals. He has nothing to do with the Cardinals. Would the Red Sox have a Bucky Dent bobblehead?

9. Houston Astros:Dallas Keuchel, Colby Rasmus, Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve, George Springer

These all have tie-ins to the 2015 season, like Keuchel winning the Cy Young and Correa winning rookie of the year. Springer's is the must-have, though, because it's sponsored by Nolan Ryan Beef. Is there anything more Texas than Nolan Ryan Beef?

10. Toronto Blue Jays:Josh Donaldson, Carlos Delgado/Jose Bautista/Vernon Wells, Troy Tulowitzki, Kevin Pillar, Dave Stieb/Pat Hentgen/Roy Halladay

The Jays are celebrating their 40th season with a couple of all-time great trio bobbleheads. But how could they miss out on a George Bell/Lloyd Moseby/Jesse Barfield "Outfield of the '80s"? Or Rance Mulliniks/Garth Iorg "Awesome Third-Base Platoon," or "Couple Having Sex in the SkyDome Hotel With the Curtain Open"?

11. Boston Red Sox:David Price, Jason Varitek, Wally and Tessie, David Ortiz, Xander Bogaerts

They rejected my idea of a Pablo Sandoval/Hanley Ramirez "$183 Million" dual bobble. Kudos, however, to the PR department for showing restraint and not having, like, six Ortiz giveaways.

12. New York Mets:Mike Piazza, Matt Harvey

Extra credit if the Piazza Hall of Fame bobblehead features frosted what time does chase bank close on sunday. Arizona Diamondbacks:A.J. Pollock, Paul Goldschmidt, Zack Greinke, David Peralta

Very solid group, but the unfortunate Pollock injury dampened the April 23 giveaway.

14. Washington Nationals:Max Scherzer, Bryce Harper, Racing President, Dusty Baker, Max Scherzer, Michael Taylor

The Scherzer bobbleheads are billed as a two-piece set, honoring his two no-hitters. And, hey, Dusty Baker joins Ken Griffey Jr. as the when i think of the goodness of jesus kanye west guy to be honored by two teams this year! Take that, trivia monsters. But no Bryce Harper? Say it ain't so.

Update: The Nationals DO have a Harper MVP bobblehead on May 11. My apologies for missing that. They can probably just mass produce that one and keep the extras in storage for the next decade.

15. Pittsburgh Pirates: Raise the Jolly Roger, Gerrit Cole, Jung Ho Kang, Francisco Liriano

"Raise the Jolly Roger" is the signature call of Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown when the Pirates win, and the bobblehead features the Pirate Parrot mascot. Which is much better than the alternative idea: The Pirate Parrot throwback selling cocaine.

16. Detroit Tigers: Tigers Vintage, Ian Kinsler, J.D. Martinez

I'm guessing Tigers fans have seven or eight Miggy bobbleheads by now.

17. Cincinnati Reds:Joey Votto, Star Wars Mr. Redlegs X-Wing Fighter, Ken Griffey Jr., Zack Cozart, Eugenio Suarez

I was going to criticize the Reds for jumping on the Griffey bandwagon, considering he has fewer career WAR with the Reds than Hal Morris. But I'll give them a pass since it's a dual bobblehead, featuring Griffey with both the Reds and Mariners. Now, about that Star Wars thing .

18. Colorado Rockies:Nolan Arenado, Charlie Blackmon Star Wars, DJ LeMahieu Ghostbusters, Nolan Arenado Gold Glove, Carlos Gonzalez

You know, with all these movie-themed tie-ins, I want to see a team get more creative. How about the Nolan Arenado "Unbearable Lightness of Being" bobblehead?

19. Cleveland Indians:Yan Gomes, Jim Thome Hall of Fame, Bob Feller

That's matt holliday bobblehead Indians' Hall of Fame for Thome, not the Hall of Fame Hall of Fame. Demerits for not having a Francisco Lindor giveaway.

20. Tampa Bay Rays:Kevin Kiermaier, When does ally pay interest on savings Archer, Chris Archer Stormtrooper, Kevin Kiermaier Santa Claus

OK, they're doubling on two guys here, so you have to dock the Rays for that, but the Kiermaier Claus one is kind of cute. Because when I think metro bank customer service hotline philippines Christmas, I think of Tropicana Field in July.

21. Los Angeles Angels:Mike Trout and Albert Pujols

For some reason, the Angels decided not to go with the Craig Gentry/Daniel Nava left-field platoon bobble.

22. Miami Marlins:Charles Johnson, Jeff Conine, Kevin Brown, Ichiro Suzuki, Mike Lowell, Luis Castillo, Moises Alou, Edgar Renteria, Dontrelle Willis, Alex Gonzalez, Jim Leyland

Look, if you're going to celebrate Marlins All-Stars of the past, you have to include Paul Lo Duca, Carl Pavano and Gaby Sanchez. And can we verify these aren't simply leftovers from previous years? (I kid, I kid!)

23. Texas Rangers:Rougned Odor, Blue Dot, Cole Hamels, Green Dot, Adrian Beltre, Elvis Landrus Calrissian Star Wars, Red Dot

The Beltre one is cool because it comes with a removable helmet, but the dog will probably just eat that anyway when it falls, and that excellent idea is canceled out by dots. I mean, is the dot race that popular in Arlington? Am I missing something? And it's a dot connected to a pair of human legs, not a bobblehead. Does the dot bobble? Maybe I should just put the Rangers last. But I really love Adrian Beltre.

24. Minnesota Twins:Miguel Sano, Ervin Santana, Torii Hunter, Twins Vintage

I'm guessing the Sano bobblehead won't feature him playing right field.

25. Milwaukee Brewers: 1980s Vintage, Ryan Braun, Greg Vaughn, Jimmy Nelson, Craig Counsell

Hey, Greg Vaughn is in the top 100 of all time in home runs.

26. Chicago White Sox:Chris Sale

Well, if you're going to do just one, you may as well do the 2016 American League Cy Young winner.

27. Philadelphia Phillies:Maikel Franco

I think this is an indication that they weren't too sure who would still be on the roster in July.

28. Baltimore Orioles: Orioles bobblehead

I assume this is an old-school vintage one, which is fine, but how about an old-school Frank Robinson to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his Triple Crown season?

29. Oakland Athletics:Josh Reddick, Hello Kitty, Jose Canseco Rookie of the Year

I may not be the target audience for Hello Kitty, but I'm still subtracting points.

30. San Diego Padres: None

The Padres are hosting the All-Star Matt holliday bobblehead, so this seems like a missed opportunity. I mean, who wouldn't want a Johnny Grubb bobblehead?

Baltimore – Growing up in Oklahoma, Matt Holliday had two posters on his wall: Michael Jordan and Cal Ripken.

As Holliday’s love for baseball grew – his dad coached college ball – he gravitated toward Ripken.

“I am not real sure why I liked him so much. I guess it had something to do with the fact that he was a big infielder,” said Holliday, a third baseman in high school and briefly in the minor leagues. “And he was obviously a great player.”

People are starting to say the same thing about Holliday these days. His path crossed, sort of, with the Hall of Fame shortstop on Sunday as Holliday went 2-for-3 in the Rockies’ 6-1 victory on Cal Ripken Bobblehead Day.

“Actually, it would have meant more if Cal was here,” said Holliday, whose dad Tom Holliday, now an associate head coach at North Carolina State, attended Sunday’s game at Camden Yards. “I am not big on bobbleheads. (Son) Jackson would probably break it.”

Entering the series finale, Holliday had gone hitless in consecutive games for only the second time this season. He leads the National League with a .352 average and all of baseball with 90 hits. Boston reporters will likely descend on his locker this week as Holliday’s national reputation grows.

“It really doesn’t matter,” said Holliday, on track for his second consecutive all-star berth. “I just matt holliday bobblehead our team to keep playing well.”

Lopez at Fenway

Todd Helton will likely see a familiar face during the Red Sox series this week. Same goes for territorial savings bank honolulu left-handed hitting Brad Hawpe. Boston chose to keep erstwhile Rockie Javy Lopez on the roster last weekend, designating veteran J.C. Romero for assignment.

Lopez has stranded 14 of 17 inherited runners. He had a remarkable rookie season for the Rockies in 2003, but was cut in April after struggling.

Footnotes

Negotiations with top pick Casey Weathers will resume this week. There are indications the Rockies would like Weathers to sign for less than $1.8 million – his slot number – because he lacks leverage as a college senior. … On first glance, they appeared to be twins. Luis Taveras, a catcher for the independent York Revolution, where he’s a teammate of Danny Bautista, visited his brother Willy Taveras this weekend. Said Willy, “We do look alike, but he’s bigger.”

The 2016 MLB bobblehead stadium giveaway schedule is filled with current stars, tributes to Amazon force com careers of Famers, mascots, Star Wars mash-ups and even an infamous rescue. But they’re not the only promotions of note for collectors. Teams are also handing out things like replica rings, statues, pins and other novelties.

The gnome continues to rise as well. The Mets couldn’t resist the obvious Noah Syndergaard-en Gnome. Even though it doesn’t have the catchy name to go with it, Oakland’s Sean Doolittle gnome is likely to garner more attention thanks to his Metallica shirt and rock-friendly hand gesture.

The majority of 2016 MLB bobbleheads being handed out at games are of your standard variety. Some teams have themes, like Kansas City’s postseason run and Miami’s All-Stars from the past. The Atlanta Braves have one of the more original bobbleheads of the year with one highlighting Chipper Jones’ rescue of a stranded Freddie Freeman, complete with an ATV.

With many teams now doing Star Wars nights, several promotional items are coming from them. The Reds have two different Star Wars bobbleheads in 2016 including one of their mascot, Mr. Redlegs, flying an X-Wing. The Red Sox have a BB-8 baseball for those buying a special ticket for their Star Wars promotion.

Topps has promotions with every MLB team this season, huntington grills customer service away special over-sized cards throughout June and July.

How Bidding Works

Single Bid v Autobid

A single bid can be placed as a one time bid for any amount. An autobid can be placed and set at your maximum amount you are willing to spend. With autobid, our system will place your bid at the minimum amount needed to lead. When you are outbid, our system will bid automatically for you until your maximum is reached.

Who wins?

When two bids are placed for the same amount, the bid placed first based on the timestamp wins. Timestamps are set when the initial bid is placed, for autobids this is when a maximum was set not when the system prompted the bid to win.

Why are there bids with the same amount?

We list competing bids of the same amount to indicate what prompted an autobid to be placed. Otherwise, it would be unclear as to why an autobid was increased.

For Example, Item 100 has a current amount of $100 and a bid increment of $50. John placed an autobid at 7:00pm with a maximum amount of $200. John is winning at $150. Jill placed a bid for $200 at 7:30pm. John's bid is increased to $200 by our system. John wins because he committed to the amount earlier than Jill. The list shows both John and Jill at $200 so we can see what prompted John's bid to increase.

From Hall of Famers to Hello Kitty, ranking each MLB team's bobblehead giveaways

Apr 26, 2016
  • David SchoenfieldESPN Senior Writer

That's a nice list of stars, but Griffey's Hall of Fame bobblehead puts the Mariners over the top.

1, but while they're celebrating the final year at Turner Field, it's not a good sign when the only active player you have is "to be named."

Ruth, Mantle ...

The Wainwright/Molina one depicts the final out of the 2006 World Series, so that's a neat one; no problem there. But the Rosenthal one comes with a sound chip; I don't want my bobbleheads talking to me. Good lord, no. Then there's the Eddie Gaedel one. He's the 3-foot-7 slugger who Bill Veeck let bat in a gimmick stunt. I love the idea of an Eddie Gaedel bobblehead ... except he played for the Browns, not the Cardinals.

Extra credit if the Piazza Hall of Fame bobblehead features frosted hair.

And, hey, Dusty Baker joins Ken Griffey Jr. as the only guy to be honored by two teams this year!

Now, about that Star Wars thing ...

That's the Indians' Hall of Fame for Thome, not the Hall of Fame Hall of Fame. Demerits for not having a Francisco Lindor giveaway.

20. Tampa Bay Rays:Kevin Kiermaier, Chris Archer, Chris Archer Stormtrooper, Kevin Kiermaier Santa Claus

OK, they're doubling on two guys here, so you have to dock the Rays for that, but the Kiermaier Claus one is kind of cute. Because when I think of Christmas, I think of Tropicana Field in July.

The Padres are hosting the All-Star Game, so this seems like a missed opportunity. I mean, who wouldn't want a Johnny Grubb bobblehead?

The 2016 MLB bobblehead stadium giveaway schedule is filled with current stars, tributes to Hall of Famers, mascots, Star Wars mash-ups and even an infamous rescue.

Topps has promotions with every MLB team this season, giving away special over-sized cards throughout June and July.

We’ve gone through all the promotional calendars and put together a list of all the 2016 MLB bobblehead stadium giveaways as well as other collector-friendly giveaways you might want to keep a look out for in the months ahead.

By Ryan Cracknell

“I just want our team to keep playing well.”

Lopez at Fenway

Todd Helton will likely see a familiar face during the Red Sox series this week. Same goes for the left-handed hitting Brad Hawpe.

Promotions Watch: MLB Bobbleheads and Gnomes

Noah Syndergaard Gnome

All across Major League Baseball this season, bobbleheads and garden gnomes will be utilized as giveaways to attract fans to the ballpark. This week in Promotions Watch, we look at the wide range of those items on the docket, ranging from bobbleheads that celebrate memorable moments to gnomes of players and managers.

Bobbleheads have long had their place on baseball promotional schedules, proving to be a popular item for fans of all ages. One theme that is evident across the league this year is their use in commemorating historical moments, both for bygone eras as well the happenings of more recent memory.

The Washington Nationals, for instance, will honor both of Max Scherzer’s no-hitters from last season with bobbleheads on two separate dates. The first will be handed out at Nationals Park on May 23, with the Nationals’ contest on August 26 marking the conclusion of the series.

As they look to defend their championship, the Kansas City Royals will take a few days to recap their memorable run to last year’s World Series title. A big part of this promotional slate is the Postseason Bobblehead series, which begins with manager Ned Yost on May 14 and concludes with Salvador Perez on September 3.

Throughout the season, the Miami Marlins will recognize various All-Star seasons from past players. Charles Johnson’s 1997 campaign will be honored on April 16, kicking off a series that will include former Florida Marlins such as Jeff Conine, Moises Alou, Gary Sheffield, and many more.

With Turner Field in its final season, the Atlanta Braves will be giving away a few bobbleheads that highlight the ballpark’s more memorable moments. Perhaps the most notable in that group is the Chipper Jones 2000 All-Star Game bobblehead on June 10. The 2000 All-Star Game was the lone mid-summer classic to take place at Turner Field.

Griffey-Bobble_200x191Ken Griffey Jr. will be the first representative of the Seattle Mariners in the Hall of Fame, and the Mariners are celebrating the occasion with a weekend of promotions. That slate begins with a bobblehead giveaway on August 5, followed over the next two days with a number retirement ceremony, replica Hall of Fame plaque giveaway, and a replica jersey. Griffey’s induction will also be recognized by the Cincinnati Reds—the team for which he played from 2000 until July 2008—with a dual bobblehead on May 21. The bobblehead will depict him as both a Red and a Mariner.

For the 35th anniversary of their 1981 title, the Los Angeles Dodgers will celebrate with a trio bobblehead on July 2. The bobblehead will feature Ron Cey, Steve Yeager, and Pedro Guerrero, the three players who split the 1981 World Series MVP award. That giveaway will be part of a busy day at Dodger Stadium, as it will coincide with an Old-Timers Game.

In a twist, the St. Louis Cardinals will remember a figure from the St. Louis Browns with an Eddie Gaedel bobblehead on September 9. Sporting the number 1/8, Gaedel was recruited by Browns owner Bill Veck to appear in a game in 1951 and drew a walk in his only trip to the plate. The Cardinals will, of course, honor their own past and present through bobbleheads, with giveaways scheduled for the likes of Adam Wainwright, Trevor Rosenthal, Matt Holliday, David Eckstein, and more.

The New York Yankees are honoring some of their best players—including Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle—with bobbleheads, but one giveaway will be timed particularly well. On October 1, the Yankees will hand out Roger Maris bobbleheads. That date is the 55th anniversary of when Maris hit his 61st home run of 1961, breaking the single-season record that was previously held by Ruth.

In some instances, the bobbleheads will come with a twist, focusing instead on theme nights. The Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, and Tampa Bay Rays all have Star Wars-inspired bobbleheads on their schedules. The White Sox will have their mascot Southpaw in a Star Wars bobblehead on August 27, while the Rockies and Rays will feature players Charlie Blackmon and Chris Archer on July 23 and June 11, respectively.

As an alternative to bobbleheads, many teams will hand out gnomes. Last year was a particularly big year for teams using the items as tributes to managers, and the San Francisco Giants will carry that trend into this season by handing out Bruce Bochy gnomes on July 31.

One thing that is more evident this season, as opposed to last, is gnomes that depict players, with a few teams taking creative approaches. The Rays will give out Evan Longoria Longo Solar gnomes on August 6. The Oakland A’s will take it a step further on April 30 with a Sean Doolittle Metalica Gnome, which will be equipped with sound. Doolitle’s walkout song when he enters games from the bullpen is “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” and the gnome will play a portion of the tune at the push of a button.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will have a gnome giveaway featuring Josh Harrison on April 17. This item will be given to fans 14 and younger as part of Kids Day at PNC Park.

Two of baseball’s youngest stars will be featured in gnome form this season. After his work in the starting rotation helped lead the club to a National League Pennant, the New York Mets will honor Noah Syndergaard with a Syndergaard-en Gnome on April 30. The Baltimore Orioles, meanwhile, will give out gnomes of All-Star third baseman Manny Machado on July 9.

Fans of the Cardinals can expect a Yadier Molina gnome at Busch Stadium on May 30. It should also be noted that the Springfield Cardinals (Class AA; Texas League) will hand out the exact same gnome on June 9 as part of their Busch Stadium Exclusives series.

Two final gnomes to note come courtesy of the Boston Red Sox. On May 15, the team will hand out a gnome that features its mascot Wally. What might attract more interest, however, is the Red Sox’s Papi Gnome on June 21. That giveaway is a nod to David Ortiz, who is set to retire after this season.

These giveaways make for a creative slate, showing that even major league teams will undertake unique promotions to attract fans to the ballpark.
