Overview

Rockland Lake State Park's lake is located on a ridge of Hook Mountain above the west bank of the Hudson River. Developed and opened to the public in the early 1960s, the park is a part of the Palisades Interstate Park system. The park offers two Olympic-sized swimming pools and two kiddie pools, picnic tables and grills, a car-top boat launch, hiking trails with breathtaking views of the Hudson Valley, six tennis courts and two golf courses. Anglers can fish Rockland Lake for bass, perch and norlunge; walkers and joggers can use the fitness trail around the lake. Winter visitors can enjoy designated cross-country ski trails and sledding slopes. The park is open to visitors year round. From May 1 to September 30th, dogs are not permitted in the Park. From October 1 to March 31, dogs are permitted in the Park, but not on the bike path or improved walkways.

Activities

  • Boating

Rockland lake State Park has a car-top boat launching site for public use.

  • Bicycling

Bicyclists can enjoy the 3.2 mile non-motorized use paved trail that circles the lake.

  • Fishing

Anglers can fish Rockland Lake for bass, perch and norlunge.

  • Golfing

Rockland Lake State Park Golf Course features two 18-hole golf courses--one a championship course, the other, an executive course. The championship course is a true test of golfing skills. The tight, tree-lined fairways and rolling terrain lead to elevated greens. There are only 37 bunkers on the course, but all are well-placed. The par 3s are long and difficult. All the holes on the executive course are par 3s and vary in length from 110 yards to 213 yards. This course provides a good test of skill to brush up on your short game. The course has practice putting greens, a driving range, pro shop, and snack bar.

  • Hiking

There are a few gravel trails that run along the bank of the Hudson, which provide spectacular views of the river and the greater Hudson Valley, the Tappan Zee Bridge and Westchester County.

  • Picnicking

Picnic tables are abundant in the park, making Rockland Lake State Park an excellent place to take the family. There are not grills or picnic shelters on the grounds.

  • Tennis

Rockland Lake State Park features six tennis courts open to the public from March to late November.

  • Water Sports

The park features two Olympic-sized swimming pools and two kiddie pools. One of the pools is a huge 24,140 square foot swimming pool with diving boards! Swimming is permitted from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day.

  • Winter Sports

During the winter months, visitors can enjoy designated cross-country ski trails and sledding slopes. Ice fishing is also available in winter.

A very peaceful, beautiful place to go to for a walk, bike ride, jog or run. There are picnic tables so you can just bring food food and enjoy the gorgeous scenery with your family. The $10 fee per vehicle is not bad, but hope was was a little less but it's definitely not a deal breaker.

Actually found this park as we were going elsewhere. Detoured when we saw the signs of state park so we could check it out. $10 to park. several different lots to choose from. Wasn't crowded when we went there, but we didn't go on a hot summer day. I could imagine how crowded this place can get. There were water slides, Sprinklers, walk in pool. Picnic and bar b q areas. A large lake. Making plans to go with our grandchildren and will give a better review with more pictures

This park is so beautiful. I come here as often as I can. The walk around the lake takes an hour at a moderate to fast pace. I believe it's 3.2 miles. Its fun because as you walk around you pass by areas that have their own characteristics. There's the turtle area, the boat area, the bridge area , the desert area, the windy area, the woodsy area and then it's the home stretch. You do have to pay a fee, pretty much spring to fall, upon entering the parking lots or you can buy an annual pass which saves if you come here frequently. There is a pool here that's pretty popular in summer. Overall great for everyone.

  • 5Anam H. 3 months ago
It's a really nice place, green, water, kids play area and a massive snowing pool what more could you ask for oh yes clean and decent size rest room but only for Men and Women.

  • 5Khaleda Y. 3 months ago
Its a very nice park even though its more the 1hr from Brooklyn. I would say its worth of going. We did our daughter birthday there. Its very big and nice.

  • 5Thaddeus S. 5 months ago
This is a terrific state park! There is a paved path that completely circles the lake. A beautiful swimming pool that costs only $5 a person on weekends and $3 on weekdays! Plenty of spots to meet and have a Cookout or bring something to picnic with. Lots of space to do activities. About $10 to enter and park. Not sure if the rates are different on holidays.

How long have you been with the agency?
I started the summer of 2016

What does someone in your position do?  Our park issues upwards of 200 Special Event Permits per year, and I coordinate issuance of those permits.  In the summer, I’m out in the park as a docent, providing tours and interpreting the park for our visitors.  In both those roles, I’m assisting the public to have the best possible experience while visiting our park.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever seen or done?  Being at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, and in particular, the men’s hockey gold medal game (USA vs Canada).  The coolest thing while working here at Saratoga is giving tasting tours to people from many parts of the world.  People’s reactions to experiencing our mineral waters are quite first security bank of missoula mt and interesting.

Is there a destination in the park you’d recommend to someone?  The unique cold water CO2 mineral springs at Saratoga Spa State Park, of course!

What inspired you to work in the park system?  After having visited a number of National Parks across the country, I fell in love with parks and wanted to work in one. Lucky me, I’m here at SSSP!
