Disney has stated that “Walt Disney World Resort Guests may be subject to additional screenings. Before you leave home, please check the temperatures of everyone in your party—including yourself—as an extra layer of precaution.”

Also, prior to entering a table-service restaurant at Disney Resort hotels, guests will have their temperature taken.

Like all other locations where temperature screenings are required, anyone with a temperature of 100.4 F or above will be directed to an additional rescreening. Those with temperatures 100.4 F or above will be denied entry, along with other members of their party.

Frozone Check your temp

Magical Express

Magical Express is available. Take note of the following as well for Magical Express:

  • Luggage delivery service for those arriving to and departing from the airport will not be available beginning July 16, 2020.
  • Magical Express guests are responsible for picking up checked luggage from baggage claim so it can be loaded onto the motorcoach and be taken to your Disney Resort hotel.
  • Luggage assistance is available at the front of your Disney Resort hotel, including luggage storage and/or transport to the room.
  • When departing, make sure your luggage is with you and loaded onto the motorcoach, because the resort airline check-in service is not be offered at this time.

Cleaning and Mousekeeping

Disney is implementing extra cleaning procedures in all high-traffic areas, such as public elevators, escalators, handrails, benches, tables, handles, restrooms, etc.

As for your resort hotel room, those too will undergo thorough cleanings between guests, including:

  • Housekeeping tools are cleaned between rooms
  • Floors are steam cleaned and vacuumed between guests
  • Items like glassware are individually wrapped
  • Double-cases on all pillows
  • During your stay, your room will receive a light cleaning service every other day, which includes: removal of trash and used towels, replenishment of towels and amenities throughout the room and bathroom, wiping and cleaning of the vanity and counter surfaces, and vacuuming if needed.

Guests can decline this every-other-day service if they choose.

Of course, if you are a Disney Vacation Club Member and are using points for your stay, your service will occur on the 4th and 8th days, unless you opt to decline that service.

Disney enhanced cleaning measures

Parking

Self-parking is available for resort guests, but Valet Parking is not.

Parking lot trams are not available upon reopening.

Note: there is a fee to park at the Walt Disney World resorts if you are a guest there.

Pools & gyms

Feature pools may operate with reduced hours, however, leisure pools (sometimes called “quiet” pools, although you do not have to be quiet when using them) are open 24 hours a day.

And, because of physical distancing, expect the capacity to be controlled.

Gyms and fitness centers are open in alignment with state and county regulations, and may have reduced hours.

Restaurants – reservations now open

In order to comply with social distancing guidelines, all Disney World Restaurants are operating at a reduced capacity.

This also means that there are some changes in how things work.

Advanced Dining Reservations (now 60 days in advance)

All Guests may now make dining reservations online up to 60 days in advance.

In order to dine in the parks, guests MUST have a Park Reservation. More details on how the new Disney Parks Pass system works below.

IMPORTANT: For park dining locations, guests need both a park reservation and valid admission before they can rebook dining reservations.

Day hotel guests (those not staying overnight) will need a confirmed dining reservation. Dining reservations are also recommended for those who do have hotel reservations.

As time goes on, you can always check on walk-ups, but to guarantee a spot we highly recommend you secure a reservation.

Disney Dining Plan

All existing Disney dining plans are suspended.

We do expect it to eventually return, however, we don’t expect that to happen until capacity limits are increased.

Dining and experiences updates for Walt Disney World's reopening

Face coverings and restaurants

Face coverings are not required when guests are seated at a table, however, they are required for all guests ages 2 and up in all public areas of the Walt Disney World Resort, including when entering and leaving a restaurant.

Temperature screenings at restaurants

As previously stated, prior to entering a table-service restaurant at Disney Resort hotels, guests will have their temperature taken. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 F or above will be directed to an additional rescreening. Those with temperatures 100.4 F or above will be denied entry, along with other members of their party.

Cashless and Contactless Payment

It is strongly recommended that guests opt to use cashless (debit or credit cards, Disney Gift Cards) or contactless forms of payment (like your MagicBand or through phone apps like Apple Pay).

Mobile Order

One easy way to reduce your contact with others is to use Mobile Order whenever it is available.

Mobile Order (which is available in the My Disney Experience App) allows guests to order their food for Quick Service restaurants ahead of their arrival.

You use the app to notify the restaurant that you have arrived and then you are able to pick up your order at a designated window.

Mobile Order screenshot

Doing this bypasses the standard order line, thus reducing your contact with other guests and Cast Members, which right now is a good thing.

NEW — Mobile Order is now available at select Table Service restaurants, including Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, The Wave… of American Flavors at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and Olivia’s Cafe at Disney’s Old Key West Resort.

It works exactly like Mobile Order for Quick Service locations. However, keep in mind that these meals will be made to order so they may take just as long as if you were sitting in the actual restaurant.

On Sept. 21, Disney confirmed other select hotel Table Service restaurants will soon offer Table Service To Go.

Table Service to Go on My Disney Experience

Mobile Dine Check-In

This new feature allows you to check in via My Disney Experience (MDE) for dining reservations at select table-service restaurants at theme parks and resorts.

Here’s how it works:

You’ll receive a push notification prompting you to check in via MDE or you can check-in by scanning a QR code located in the restaurant’s lobby. This means you don’t need to visit the host stand to check in.

Via the push notification or QR code you’ll check in for your reservation and confirm your arrival time and party details.

When your table is ready you will be notified to proceed to a specified location.

You can also check walk-up availability at Table Service restaurants right in MDE. The app allows guests without reservations to view current availability and wait times. Depending on availability, you can add your party to the waitlist at participating locations.

As of Sept. 21, these are the locations offering Mobile Dine Check-In:

Menus

Moving forward, Disney World is using reduced-contact menus.

Simply put, this means menus are shared in ways to minimize how many people touch them.

In Quick Service locations this is relatively easy as menus can be displayed on sign boards.

And, at Table Service restaurants, you’re able to scan QR codes with your mobile device to access the digital menu.

QR Code

Note: if you are unfamiliar with how QR codes work, we recommend you practice a bit at home before you go. They are extremely easy to use, and with many phones you’ll simply use your camera app.

Character Dining & dinner shows (like Hoop-Dee-Doo and Spirit of Aloha)

There are several modified character dining experiences available, including:

Cinderella’s Royal Table at Magic Kingdom is open, but characters aren’t present (Cinderella may pop by, but only briefly).

In addition, all dinner shows have been temporarily suspended during this initial reopening.

During the initial reopening phase, both Private Dining and in-room delivery (including pizza) will not be offered. However, in-room dining is available at Yacht Club.

Parks

In order to limit park capacity, attendance is being managed via a pre-arrival reservation system called Disney Park Pass. This means all guests have to obtain a reservation in order to enter a park.

They must also have valid theme park admission in order to make a park reservation, whether that be a ticket or an Annual Pass.

Disney Park Pass System

Park reservations are available through January 14, 2023, depending on availability. We’ve summarized the key points below but be sure to check out our post on Disney’s new Park Pass system for additional details.

Remember, guests also need both a park reservation and valid admission before they can book in-park dining and experience reservations.

Preparing to make Disney Park Pass reservations

Before making reservations, there’s a few very important things you’ll want to do FIRST:

  • Set up your My Disney Experience account (if you don’t already have one) or make sure you know how to access yours if you do have one because this is where all of your Walt Disney World Resort plans are stored and managed.
  • Make sure park tickets or Annual Passes are properly linked in My Disney Experience for all members of your traveling party.
  • Staying onsite at a Walt Disney World resort hotel? Link your WDW Resort Reservation to your My Disney Experience account beforehand, as well.

Making Disney Park Pass reservations

Once you have a valid ticket linked to your account you can access a calendar of available reservation dates for each theme park.

Family and friends traveling together can link tickets to allow them to select theme park entries at the same time.

If you have a multi-day ticket, you will be required to make a park reservation for each day of your visit.

It is important to note that at least in the beginning, there is no Park Hopping. Guests with Park Hopper or Park Hopper Plus tickets are able to modify or cancel. We expect to learn more details about that in the upcoming days and weeks.

And, as you can imagine, reservations are limited in number and subject to availability so Disney is advising you to make your park reservations as soon as you purchase your tickets.

Visit the official Walt Disney World website for more information about the new Disney Park Pass system.

FastPass + & Extra Magic Hours

FastPass+ is suspended for the time being as the parks use additional queue space to manage capacity at attractions and to help maintain physical distancing.

All existing FastPass+ selections will automatically be cancelled.

Extra Magic Hours are also temporarily suspended.

Water Parks (Blizzard Beach & Typhoon Lagoon)

On Sept. 17, Disney announced that both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will remain closed through at least March 7, 2021. Disney hopes to reopen one of the water parks by this date, but the reopening depends on government approval.

Annual Passholders with water park access will receive a partial refund. There are also several options available for those with water park tickets. No word yet on whether or not we can expect the water parks to reopen.

Transportation

Complimentary transportation is available between the resorts, the theme parks, and Disney Springs, depending on the form of transportation.

All forms of transportation are available, unless otherwise noted below:

  • Epcot Monorail currently unavailable
  • Water taxis are limited at Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness
  • No water taxi from Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and Contemporary
  • Minnie Vans and Watercraft options are not be available during the initial re-opening phase

The Disney Skyliner resumed operation on July 15 and Friendship boats reopen starting November 1.

As noted above, Magical Express is also currently available.

Walt Disney World transportation reopening dates

Much like the capacity in the theme parks and restaurants being reduced, transportation is running with physical distancing measures put in place, including at loading zones and queues and on buses, monorails, and boats. Physical barriers have also been installed to maintain physical distancing guidelines.

Face masks are required aboard all Disney transportation.

In the olden days (like just a year ago), it was pretty typical for buses to be packed shoulder to shoulder during peak times.

This is not the case moving forward.

It’s important to note that because of these changes, there might be transportation delays and you may want to consider renting a car for Walt Disney World.

Check out this post for more information about Renting a car at Disney World.

And then, make sure you review our information about Parking at Walt Disney World, too.

FAQ’s

Although we have received more questions than we currently have answers for, we will continue to update this section as we learn more information.

Have a question we haven’t answered? Drop us an email.

Should I postpone my trip?

This one is tricky, but here’s our thoughts:

If this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip – especially if you are traveling with little ones or small children – then as sad as we are to say it, postponing may be the right decision.

For people that are frequent visitors that may not mind that things aren’t “normal” or that all experiences aren’t available or if you are not traveling with little kids that may struggle with the mask requirements and you personally feel comfortable traveling, then going may make sense for you.

Every family and every situation will be different. There is no one right or wrong answer. Our goal is provide all the information you will need to make the best decision for you and your family.

Will Food & Wine be cancelled?

No, but it will be a modified experience called “A Taste of Epcot International Food and Wine Festival” that will last a lot longer than what we’ve seen in the past.

Beginning on July 15 (which is the scheduled reopening date for Epcot) and lasting through the fall, the new modified version of Food and Wine will offer 20 signature global marketplaces spaced throughout the park.

In addition, guests will also get a bit of the Flower and Garden festival via Remy (the newest topiary unveiled earlier this year) still being on display as well as Flower and Garden merchandise being available for purchase.

Some hallmarks of Food & Wine – like the popular Eat to the Beat Concert Series – will not happen. As an alternative, musical acts from Epcot (like Mariachi Cobre and the Jammitors) will provide performances in the American Gardens Theatre.

The Epcot International Festival of the Holidays is also happening, but will be modified just like Food & Wine. It begins on Nov. 27.

Are masks required?

Yes. Masks are required for all guests ages 2 and over in certain situations. Masks must be worn when indoors, on transportation, or while waiting or on attractions.

There are also mask requirements, including (these are for both reusable and disposable):

  • Fully cover your nose and mouth and secure under the chin
  • Made with at least two layers of breathable material
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow you to remain hands-free
  • Neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas, and face coverings with valves, mesh material, or holes of any kind are not allowed
Disney face mask

What about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party?

Disney has officially announced that Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party was cancelled for 2020. However, there has been no statement made for 2021.

Here’s what they said:

“…we determined that many of its hallmarks – stage shows, parades and fireworks – are unable to take place in this new, unprecedented environment. With that in mind, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.”

Guests that had already purchased MNSSHP tickets saw those automatically refunded.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Epcot’s Candlelight Processional was also cancelled for 2020.

Will the pools at the resorts be open?

Pools and gyms are open, however, they operate under reduced capacity. Also, expect feature pools to have limited hours and for some to not be immediately available.

What about the characters?

The character meets are temporarily suspended, however, there are some characters that are out and about entertaining guests from a safe distance.

What about character meals and buffets?

Disney has confirmed that certain experiences, such as most Character dining, cannot be provided at this time, except for the following modified character dining experiences:

  • Topolino’s Terrace at Riviera Resort
  • Garden Grill at Epcot
  • Minnie’s Seasonal Dine at Hollywood & Vine in Hollywood Studios
  • Chef Mickey’s returns Dec. 16 (reservations open Oct. 17)
  • Ravello’s at the Four Seasons

Restaurants that were traditionally buffets look to be returning but will be served family-style.

Will park hopping be allowed?

Park Hopping is now allowed. Currently, Park Hopping is only available after 2 p.m. and guests must have made a Park Pass reservation for the first park they wish to visit in order to hop.

Important note: Park Hopping is subject to the park’s capacity. Guests wishing to check on the status of Park Hopping can dial (407) 560-5000.

Will the water parks be open?

Blizzard Beach has reopened.

I have a resort reservation but had not yet purchased tickets, will I still be able to buy my tickets?

Yes, as of July 9, 2020 ticket sales and hotel bookings are open.

Guests can also view park reservation availability prior to purchasing their tickets, since you need both valid theme park admission and park reservation for park entry.

Note: you need valid theme park admission to be eligible to reserve your theme park days.

How will bag check work if they are trying to limit contact?

As you know, Disney bag check traditionally involves a Cast Member going through every bag by hand.

However, that process has now changed to due current circumstances. There is a new contactless security system available at theme parks and Disney Springs.

That said, the security procedures may vary by location. You might also be at times asked to remove select items from your pocket or wallet, like umbrellas, metal water bottles, portable chargers, etc.

Will the buses be running?

Yes, buses are currently running from all open resorts, theme parks, and Disney Springs.

Bus interior

In addition to buses, other select complimentary transportation is available, including the Monorail, Ferry Boats, and the Disney Skyliner.

When can I book a trip for 2022?

Guests can now book a Disney Vacation Package (that means room and tickets) for 2021 and 2022 arrivals.

At the time of booking, guests will also be able to view park reservation availabilitybefore purchasing their tickets.

For those of us looking to learn more about the Disney magic, or for a whole new way to experience the parks, Disney offers a variety of tours to enjoy. For example, there’s Epcot’s Behind the Seeds Tour, Animal Kingdom’s Wild Africa Trek, and the big favorite, Backstage Magic, where you enjoy a backstage look of all four parks! However, my personal favorite tour has to be the Magic Kingdom‘s Keys to the Kingdom Tour, a five hour behind-the-scenes peek of the most magical park of them all; and for anyone looking to splurge on a tour, it’s my top pick. Why? Read on to see why you should choose the Magic Kingdom’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour.

Keys to the Kingdom Tour - A Glass Slipper Vacation

1. Utilidors

So this is one of the Keys to the Kingdom’s biggest draws, so I’m starting with it! Yes, the Keys to the Kingdom Tour allows you the opportunity to check out the legendary Utilidors, the Magic Kingdom’s tunnels that run underneath the park. Now before your imagination runs off, let me be clear. These tunnels are not something you would see in an Indiana Jones film. These tunnels are technically the first floor of the park, as the Magic Kingdom is actually built on the second level; and these tunnels are where offices and utilities are located, as well as wardrobe for Cast Members. Also, the purpose of the Utilidors is to allow Cast Members to get from one side of the park to the other without breaking theme. You see, Disney is all about the details and putting on a show, and having a Cast Member dressed in Liberty Square garb wouldn’t look right in Tomorrowland, would it? Also, you should know that you only get to see a small portion of the Utilidors during the tour; but even so, it’s still awesome! Also during the tour, you will get a chance to venture backstage to see some park attractions and buildings from behind the scenes. During my tour, my guide took our group to see the warehouse where they store the parade floats. It was just as memorable as the Utilidors!

2. In-Depth Tour Experience

A tour that takes place at the Magic Kingdom alone is a big plus for several reasons. First of all, the Magic Kingdom’s variety of themed lands, and the fact that it has the most attractions, means you’re going to see and learn a lot of different things in one convenient location. Secondly, the Magic Kingdom is the oldest park and its original design came from the mind of Walt Disney himself. If you’re a Disney historian, rest assured that there’s an abundance of interesting Disney history to learn while touring the Magic Kingdom and you will gain a greater appreciation for Walt and Roy as well. Lastly, unlike the Backstage Magic Tour (which is awesome in its own right), where you visit four parks in a day, you get so much more than just an overview of information when you experience the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. You also don’t have to take into encounter travel time from park to park.

3. Secrets

Who doesn’t like a good secret? Well, on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour, you learn a lot of Disney secrets, such as what Cast Members really go through, how different attractions came to be and how they are maintained, how Disney handles all of the trash accumulated during the day, and that what you see in the park looks very different when behind the scenes. I would tell you more, but that would ruin some of the best moments of the tour and some may not want the magic ruined for them. If you take this tour, I encourage you to keep some of these Disney secrets to yourself and encourage others to take the tour if they really want to know what goes on behind the scenes.

4. Bang for Your Buck

The Keys to the Kingdom Tour is currently offered at 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, and 9:30 AM every morning at $79.00 per person, plus the cost of park admission. While this may sound a little pricey, it’s actually pretty reasonable for a five hour tour at the resort’s most popular park, plus lunch at a Magic Kingdom counter service restaurant. A little souvenir exclusive to the tour is included as well!

5. Skip the Lines

The Keys to the Kingdom Tour grants guests the chance to experience a few classic attractions without waiting in line! Not only was that cool, but armed with new knowledge from my tour guide, I experienced my wait-free attractions with new eyes!

6. An Empty Magic Kingdom

The tour is currently offered at 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, and 9:30 AM and participating guests are encouraged to arrive at the Main Street, U.S.A. Chamber of Commerce at least 15 minutes before the tour begins. If you choose to take the tour at 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM, you have the unique opportunity of walking into a completely empty Magic Kingdom park! On the date of my tour, I arrived a little earlier than required and ventured up Main Street, U.S.A. for some rare, crowd-free photos of Cinderella Castle. All you have to do when you arrive at the park is locate the tour entrance at the turnstiles, let the Cast Member know you have booked a tour, and then you are free to go inside. It’s incredible!

A few other things you should know about the Keys to the Kingdom Tour…

The Magic Kingdom’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour is a five hour walking tour and takes place almost entirely outdoors, so be sure to dress accordingly. You should know that cameras, video cameras, and phones are prohibited throughout the duration of the tour, unless otherwise stated by your guide, and especially while in the Utilidors. Also, only guests 16 years and older are allowed to experience the tour and a photo ID is required. If you’re interested in taking the tour, be sure to note that only a certain number of slots are available each day so it’s best to book in advance. Lastly, when taking the tour, you will be provided with an earpiece so that you can clearly hear your tour guide and the information they are sharing at all times. It may not seem necessary at first; but trust me, when the park fills up or if you’re towards the back of the group when walking, you will be glad you have it so you can hear all that’s being said! I should also mention that Disney could change this tour anytime and without warning, so my experience could be different from yours. It’s just something to keep in mind.

So those are my reasons why you should choose the Magic Kingdom’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour. Do you agree? Have you ever experienced the Keys to the Kingdom Tour? What’s your thoughts?

Many who vacation at Walt Disney World’s resorts and theme parks never take the opportunity to sign up for an exclusive tour. Certainly, tours cost extra, but they invite their participants to experience Disney Parks more intimately. Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour brings its attendees closer to Magic Kingdom, allowing them to feel the heartbeat of Walt’s dream, which compelled him to purchase land in Central Florida many decades ago. This tour begins at Town Square Theater, located on your right, just after you pass beneath the Walt Disney World Railroad station. Consider these ten reasons why you should sign up for this five-hour-long guided tour through Magic Kingdom.

10Professionalism

Walt Disney World enjoys a well-earned reputation for providing the best in vacation experiences for tourists all over the world. Their professionalism exemplifies all that is exceptional in hospitality, including lodging, restaurants, guest services, theme parks, recreational activities, etc. The same kind of professionalism appears in their Keys to the Kingdom Tour. Guests may expect a knowledgeable boone county ky court records who provides terrific customer service, answers questions, and ensures the pleasure and safety of all tour members. Also, the tour utilizes an adequate sound system that allows all participants to hear the guide even with crowds present. As far as guided tours go, this one ranks high on the professionalism scale, and Disney cast members are dedicated to improving the process.

9 – Lunch at Pecos Bill’s

Though the tour keys to the kingdom tour gift in the morning and lasts for five hours, your guide doesn’t forget that as lunchtime approaches, your stomach will be grumbling for some grub. That’s why Disney schedules a hearty lunch at Pecos Bill’s for you. Don’t worry, the price of lunch is included in your tour fee, so there’s no need to bring extra cash. Also, you won’t stand in line with the general public, because cast members preordered your lunch and reserved a dining area for you. Enjoy your favorite entrée and get ready for the last leg of the tour, which occurs right after your meal.

Note: Lunch location subject to change.

8 – Meet Disneyphiles

The Keys to the Kingdom Tour also involves meeting other park guests who share your love for Walt Disney World. Taking this tour requires commitment, not just the financial kind, but one of time and energy. Participants dedicate five hours of their visit to be a part of the tour, equaling five hours of not scurrying around the park, attending shows, or hopping on rides. Also, the tour involves quite a lot of walking, so some park guests may feel a bit exhausted at its conclusion. In a nutshell, attendees of this tour typically hold a great passion for all things Disney, and meeting those who belong to this exclusive club proves to be a real treat.

7 Feel Like an Insider

The vast majority of visitors don’t have a clue keys to the kingdom tour gift the operations behind the scenes at Walt Disney World. Going on this tour causes its attendees to feel like insiders. They learn about the Magic Kingdom in a more profound way than regular park guests and peek behind the curtain to see how things work. Though these insiders experience what amounts to special treatment during the tour, the club isn’t actually exclusive. Anyone can participate in the Keys to the Kingdom Tour and get that insider feeling; that is, anyone who is 16 or older. Disney guides don’t allow kids under 16 to participate because being confronted with the normal operations of the park or the secrets of how the magic is produced may spoil their trip to Magic Kingdom.

6 – Learn the History

Surely, some Magic Kingdom fans could learn a lot about this popular theme park through reading books and watching documentaries, but nothing beats learning during a walking tour. The professional guides have immersed themselves in Disney history, legend, and lore. Also, a video or book doesn’t compare to standing in the spot where the history occurred. Also, the guides divulge information that even books and videos may not highlight, and tour attendees are permitted to ask questions for clarification or to expand their knowledge about Magic Kingdom. Don’t become offended, however, if a guide won’t answer a specific question; they’re not permitted to give away all of Walt Disney World’s secrets.

5 – Discover Secrets

Little known secrets abound everywhere in Magic Kingdom. Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour brings many of them to light. It’s not enough to read about the secrets in a blog or a book; taking a tour like this allows you to experience them yourself. The guides enlighten you about everything from Magic Kingdom’s strategy for dealing with lightning storms to the meaning behind first tech federal credit union houston shop windows along Main Street U.S.A.

4 Behind the Scenes of Attractions

Well, known attractions already draw a lot of attention from visitors to Magic Kingdom. Imagine receiving VIP treatment while on popular rides like Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion. During Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour, your guide accompanies you on selected rides, the number depending upon time and weather constraints. Your VIP status entitles you to line-jumping, access to the history and secrets of the attraction, and perhaps even a trip to areas that few people see. The behind-the-scenes approach to riding the attractions almost capital one bank austin tx tour members with the feeling that they’ve ridden them for the first time.

3 – Parade Floats

Like every great show, the parades of Magic Kingdom have both a frontstage and backstage. The frontstage is the parade route where audiences watch the procession, but the backstage remains unseen. Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour leads you into the hidden areas where cast members step out of character, and floats are staged, stored, and maintained by technicians.

2 – Utilidors

Though often described as tunnels running underneath Magic Kingdom, the Utilidors are actually the first floor of the theme park. Everything you see in the park has been built on top of these passageways. Your guide will lead you through the Utilidors, teaching you its history, explaining its function, introducing you to the operations taking place there, and even answering Disney-approved questions. Naturally, guides cannot answer every question; some mystery and level of privacy should be maintained. As a result, Disney doesn’t permit photography during the tour, especially when strolling through the Utilidors.

1 Key Pin

Pin traders will appreciate the gift they receive on Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour. It isn’t a tradable pin in the traditional sense, but it is somewhat unique in design. This collectible pin takes the form of a key with a Mickey-shaped head and Cinderella’s Castle appearing within it. It reads, “Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom.” Every one attending the tour receives this keepsake, which will remind them of the tour for years to come. Wearing the pin on returning trips to Walt Disney World usually draws attention from other park keys to the kingdom tour gift, who will likely ask you about it. I gave a 4 because 5 would be, well, extraordinary :). We had a wonderful guide, very experienced and great at her job. The tour is long, but enjoyable. It did not wipe away any magic for us, but gave us some insight into the herculean efforts that go into making MK, and all of WDW such a special place.
I'm giving this one a 5. I've done a lot of tours and this is the one I would say is extraordinary. We had a fantastic guide by the name of Claire. She had worked for Disney for more than 25 years and had been in Guest Relations for a long time. She knew more about the Magic Kingdom that you could ever imagine. She told us about every name on every window on Main Street and why they are important to the magic. You get to visit the Utilidors. We even go to see a character without her head piece on. But like @Spartan86 says, it really doesn't spoil the magic. For me, it enhanced it. Highly recommend.
We did this tour quite a while back, so it may have changed somewhat. We received 2 complimentary tickets as DVC members (I don't remember exactly why, but it was a nice gift ). We liked it quite a lot and since we love learning about all things Disney, it was extremely interesting. I would recommend it heartily.
This was a 5 for us. It is a tour that we talk about all the time. We talk about the information we got out of this tour. We talk about the secrets we learned. We talk about the interaction we had with the Cast Member. It was fabulous.

We were afraid of two things, that it would just be a waste of time because we already know so much about WDW and that it might spoil the magic. That is a big NO to both of those issues. We could have kept going all day. The knowledge our guide had was incredible and we would have loved to have learned even more. In no way did it take the magic away for us, in fact we all agreed it enhanced it.

This is a must do in my opinion.
I gave this a 5 as it was everything I was hoping for and more.

We did this tour on our only "Adult" trip. They take you just about everywhere behind the scenes. Some of the places we went (as well the Utilidorswhich is the highlight of the tour ) were the area they keep the parade floats, water reserve areas for Pirates and Splash, and the garbage suck system ( hold your breath). On our tour we had a private boat ride on the Jungle cruise to point out the secrets to the attraction. We also had a ride through Haunted mansion after discussing some of the details to the ride. A private .Lunch at the Harbor house was also included.
I rated it a 5. It was our first tour, and it was quite a few years ago but it was really informative and entertaining. I guess my only possible criticism would be that it was very long and took up a huge chunk of the day, but that's subjective. There are probably people who'd go on a tour much longer if it were offered. Besides it's nice to hangout with a group of people who are interested in the back story on Walt & his parks.
The only reason I gave this tour a 4 is because it depends SO much on who your guide is and how enthusiastic he or she is. If they really love Disney (and most of them do) and have been there a while, there is not better VALUE in a quick Disney tour than KTTK. It can definitely be a 5+ with the right tour guide.

This is why I rated it a 3, unfortunately. We had a very lackluster guide. We also went many years ago, before they had the individual headsets- so unless you always were up front, you missed a lot of what was being said. We sat at lunch with a guide from another tour who was AWESOME, and we were so jealous that we weren't in his group.

We also stood for what seemed like forever in the utildors after the tour where people could ask questions- it would have been nice to leave, but we were kind of stuck there.

Agreed a bad guide would make this tour less appealing, and I think the addition of headsets is a huge plus. Also, for our tour the utilidors was not the end of the tour. It was towards the end, but we worked our way back to the front of the park after that to see some more backstage areas. It seems they made some improvements for this tour.
I gave it a 5 because I would go again.

At the time we went it was priced around $65 per person which I thought was a very good value, you figure the lunch would have cost about $10-15 anyways and that is included. They had coffee and water bottles for us when we checked in which was nice. Tour was about 5 hours, included lunch, souvenir pin, VIP treatment, an earpiece that we could hear our guide very well no matter the level of noise around us. We saw a lot, learned a lot, rode several rides with front of line access. I thought maybe it would ruin it for me to go through the backstage area (like seeing the Wizard of OZ behind the curtain), but I usually don't think about it, I know it's there but I still enjoy everythinghonestly we adults must all know there is so much going on behind the scenes everywhere to make WDW possible.
It is a fun tour.
4. Great tour with lunch included. Best not to do on hot day like we did. That was unpleasant. Liked getting on a couple rides by skipping to the front. Neat to see backstage. Did kinda ruin the magic for me but has since been forgotten.
Group of 4 in our family went. Enjoyed it and glad they did it but would not do it again. The guide was okay but nothing to write home about.

I think the guide makes or breaks the experience. When we did it, our guide (Clare) was outstanding. Five stars all around. She made the tour as far as I'm concerned.

But, even so, it was a once and done for us too. I won't say never again, but certainly not anytime soon.

Keys to the Kingdom – Does it ruin the magic??

Walt Disney World is known for its ‘magical feeling’ that guests experience while visiting the parks. The magic is created in a variety of ways unbeknownst to guests. Many guests refer to their ‘magical experiences’ as getting sprinkled with Pixie Dust. How is this ‘magical feeling’ created? Where does the Pixie Dust come from? What are the secrets of Walt Disney World?

To help answer those questions and a few more, I booked a Keys to the Kingdom tour at Magic Kingdom. This tour is a five hour walking tour around the Magic Kingdom park which details the creation of the park, hidden secrets and much more. You’ll need a park ticket and paid reservation for the tour to participate. This attraction is only for guests 16 years and older.

My tour started at the front of the park with meeting Walt Disney. We didn’t meet the ‘real’ Walt Disney but we got to listen to the story of how Walt envisioned his dreams while standing next to the iconic statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse.

IMG_6367

As we walked down Main Street, our guide explained the details about the writing on the main street buildings. Who are those people and why were their names painted on the windows? All of this was discussed along with a few more ‘magical’ pieces of information. Many guests have heard rumors about things that occur in the parks after guests leave like the tale of feral cats being released at night to keep the mice away. These tales of course are not true but the rumor of their being an underground tunnel under Main Street IS TRUE!

On your tour you will get to travel down to the underground tunnels and see how some of the ‘magic’ is created. The tunnels are known as ‘utilidors’ (utility corridors) and are comprised of offices, wardrobe department, cafeterias, and salon. Before a character ever steps foot on Main Street, they are dressed, groomed and transported to the correct spot of the park using the underground tunnels. The map shows how the tunnels go through and around the entire Magic Kingdom.

Jessie on her way back to the tunnels after her meet ‘n’ greet with guests.

You’ll also get to walk on to some of the attractions from an insider’s point of few! You can learn about the details behind the creation of those rides. Your tour will end with a delicious lunch. Then you’ll be presented with a special gift only given to those who take the tour.

On your next trip to Disney, take note of where the characters go when they are done greeting guests or how many Disney cast members you see leaving the park by the front gate. You’ll be surprised with what things you’ll learn.

14. Dolphins in Depth

Meet the dolphins of The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion at Epcot and learn about their complex undersea behavior.

During this 3-hour experience, which wraps up with a once-in-a-lifetime photo op and a souvenir, you’ll talk to the expert trainers and researchers who work with our bottlenose dolphins every day.

Gain a better understanding and greater appreciation of these wondrous creatures as you:

  • Interact with our dolphins in waist-deep water for approximately 30 minutes.
  • See firsthand how we care for the dolphins day to day.
  • View backstage areas and learn how the dolphins are trained.
  • Sit in on a training and research session with our team of marine mammal specialists.
  • Participate in conversations about global issues affecting ocean life.

You will get wet—most likely splashed—by our dolphin residents! Please bring a bathing suit if you wish to enter the water. You do not need to swim or be SCUBA-certified to take part in this experience.

Cost of tour as of January 13, 2016 is $199.00 per person. Call 407-WDW-TOUR or 407-939-8687 for reservations.

Know Before You Go:

  • Dolphins are highly intelligent animals whose interaction with Guests is voluntary; they are never forced to participate. Fortunately, dolphins are also extremely social and generally friendly, so while interaction isn’t guaranteed, it is likely.
  • Please note that this is a wading encounter where the dolphins are brought to you in waist-deep water. You will not actually be swimming with the dolphins at any time.
  • Guests must be 13 years of age or older. All participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult (18 years of age or older). For safety reasons, Guests must be able to fully understand English.
  • A bathing suit is required to enter the water. Locker rooms with free lockable lockers, towels, shampoo and hair dryers will be provided. Shorty wetsuits will be provided in men’s sizes XS to 5X and women’s XS to 5X.
  • No cameras, video equipment or cell phones may be used while backstage. Photography is allowed and encouraged in non-backstage areas.
  • Unfortunately, no observers are allowed backstage. Also, no jewelry of any kind is permitted in the aquarium.
  • Please check in at Guest Relations outside the Epcot Main Entrance 15 minutes prior to your experience. You will forfeit the entire price of your tour if you no-show or cancel within 2 days of your reservation.
