what does bb cream and cc cream mean

What is the difference between BB cream, CC cream and foundation? BB and CC creams are one part makeup and one part moisturiser. They act a lot like. While CC creams are lighter than BB creams, many of them still offer foundation-. Compared to a BB cream which might boast more skin benefits in the long-run, CC creams correct skin more like a foundation would. They tend to.

What does bb cream and cc cream mean -

Difference between tinted moisturizer, BB cream, CC cream, and DD cream

Oh dear. Did you know that there would be a DD Cream coming out next month? It's from this nail polish brand called Julep. "DD" is supposed to stand for "Dynamic Do-All" since it has the skincare properties of BB cream with the color correction of CC cream. All I can say is - whatever.

When BB creams came out, people were truly astonished. There wasn't anything quite like it. Tinted moisturizers were the predecessors, but about seven years ago they came in very limited shades and textures. BB creams offered so much more - skincare actives that promise whitening, anti-aging, brightening, and a whole host of other desirable effects.

Tinted moisturizers gave us little more than a bit of coverage and moisture. BB creams promised to be preventive, and beneficial over time while providing much-needed coverage in an instant.

And then CC creams came to town. Basically, they are just a specific type of BB creams or the next generation of BB creams if you may. Extremely lightweight, sheer, and color correcting, CC creams do what some BB creams already do. Except now they're no longer just labeled "illuminating" or "glowy skin" BB's - they are called by a whole different name.

I also have the impression that CC Creams are more focused on skincare as opposed to the latest host of BB creams. Many BB creams are technically foundation. In other words, there's very little skincare involved, with emphasis on coverage and skin perfecting features!

Okay that sounds so confusing already. The truth is that at the end of the day, these new labels are just a new way to market the wheel, i.e. foundation. It's already there, but there's no reason you can't improve it then call it by a new name. Like, Wheels 2.0. Mega Awesome Wheels. Wheels That Can Take You To A Worm Hole. Wheels That Can Take You To A Worm Hole And Back, Yay.

But! That doesn't mean that the whole thing is a scam. I think DD Creams are taking the double-alphabet obsession a little too far, but BB and CC Creams are legit. It's just a matter of finding what you need for your skin - is it coverage, brightening, skincare? It's up to you! Don't buy because it's new, buy it because it's something you will actually use. Research online and swatch at the store before purchasing. :)

Weigh in! How do you feel about these newfangled face bases?

Why the best BB cream is the quick fix for instantly flawless, Zoom-ready skin

There’s lots to be said for having a good BB cream in your arsenal. But finding the best one for your skin type can take a bit of trial and error. Luckily, we’ve done the hard work for you, and rounded up the best BB creams that even and brighten, while offering some incredible skincare benefits, too.

But what are BB creams, and how do they differ from CC creams and even DD cream? (Yep, it’s a thing.) Here’s everything you need to know about the cult of BB, plus some of the best to invest in now – whatever your skin type.

What is BB Cream?

Standing for ‘blemish balm’ – or in some cases, ‘beauty balm’ – BB creams are an Asian skincare staple that have been a firm beauty industry favourite for years, thanks to their marrying of makeup and skincare.

Although they have the Korean market to thank for their fame, the first BB cream was actually invented in Germany by dermatologist Dr Christine Schrammek (and it’s still available today over 50 years later). The original idea was to create a product that combined make-up with skincare, for patients to use after a peel or laser skin surgery.

Though they didn’t really burst onto the UK scene until the early 2010s, these days you’ll rarely find a beauty lover’s make-up bag without one.

The best BB cream is a kind of ‘does it all’ skincare buy, providing coverage as well as other skin benefits like hydration, blemish control, antioxidants and an all-important SPF. And, of course, there’s a little pigment involved to even our your complexion without the heavy, flawless finish of a foundation. Or, as celebrity make-up artist Nikki Wolff puts it, they’re for “the consumer who wants natural, one-step easy foundation application, with a natural finish”.

Think your best tinted moisturiser, but with slightly better coverage.

BB cream vs CC cream – what’s the difference?

While BB creams disguise blemishes and make your complexion look more even overall, CC creams target discolouration and even our your skin tone (the CC part stands for colour correction).

“BB creams will generally have a more dewy texture, whereas CC creams tend to have a more matte finish,” explains Nikki.

Either way, both are great for minimal make-up days when, let’s be honest, CBA with bringing out the beauty blender.

How do I apply it?

“BB creams are best applied with fingertips or with a brush, as you can easily control an even distribution and not waste any product into a sponge,” says Nikki.

Always prep your skin before applying a BB cream, and by this we mean the usual: cleanse, tone, moisturise and apply your SPF. While many BB creams contain added hydration to keep your skin happy throughout the day, BB creams aren’t moisturisers – so you’ll need to go through your usual skincare motions to get a seamless finish.

What’s the best BB cream for my skin type?

“BB creams are ideal for dry skin as they’re often combined with skincare or SPF benefits,” says Nikki. “The fact the texture is generally lighter and more sheer makes the application more forgiving.”

While a heavy foundation can settle in dry patches and draw attention to dehydrated skin, BB creams are brilliant for adding some sheer coverage while providing some all-important nourishment, too.

Omorovicza’s Complexion Perfector has been hailed a beauty “Swiss army knife” owing to its dream blend of moisturiser, foundation, sunscreen, concealer and anti-aging cream, making it perfect for dryer complexions. At the more affordable end of the spectrum, NYX’s Bare With Me Tinted Skin Veil BB Cream provides a lovely, sheer-satin finish that doesn’t cling to dry patches.

But that doesn’t mean BB creams are off limits to those with oily and combination skin types. After all, it is called Blemish Balm.

“I like the Clinique anti blemish BB cream for combination or oily skin types that are still looking for that sheer coverage,” says Nikki. It’s also an incredible SPF 40, which is almost unheard of in complexion perfecting products. No7 Beautiful Skin BB Cream in the normal/oily formulation is also great for evening skin tone while working to banish blemishes. (Though its shade selection is lacking.)

CC cream

Marketing term that is used by some brands to mean Color Control cream or Color Correcting cream

An example of a cream marketed as CC, standing for "Colour Correcting"

CC cream is a marketing term coined in the wake of the marketing term Blemish Balm cream or Beauty Balm. "CC cream" is used by some brands to mean Color Control cream, or Color Correcting cream, and some brands claim to reduce the appearance of skin redness or sallowness or to improve uneven skin tone. BB creams and CC creams are both tinted moisturizers containing sun protection. There is no scientific definition for either term, nor is there quantifiable basis for difference between BB creams and CC creams: differences between the two vary from brand to brand. BB (Blemish Balm) cream was originally formulated in Germany and has, in recent years, gained popularity in Asia, especially South Korea, and is also gaining popularity in Europe and North America.

Coverage can vary greatly among the different brands,[1] and differences are more often than not minimal when compared to BB creams.[2] Some users apply them as primers rather than as a replacement for foundation. The first tinted moisturizer marketed as a CC cream appeared in 2010, the product of a Singapore-based brand Rachel K.[3] Most cosmetics companies offer both BB- and CC-creams without any particular market leader in 2016.

The Difference Between BB, CC and DD Creams

If you’ve set foot in Sephora, a drugstore or anywhere near a cosmetics counter lately, chances are you’ve been bombarded by a bewildering array of flesh colored fluids. The alphabet formulations--like BB cream, CC cream, and soon DD creams--have joined tinted moisturizers and standard foundation on the shelves as potential skin-perfecting options. But what do they all (supposedly) do? What's the difference between them? And most importantly: Which should you use?

We break it down for you.

The Comprehensive List of Where You Can Return Opened Beauty Products

How to Find the Most Flattering Nude Lipstick for Your Skin Tone

Tinted Moisturizer:

The name is pretty self explanatory: The product gives you a bit of color with a moisturizing benefit--the color is usually pretty sheer. My sense is that they may be headed for extinction, or at least hibernation. While tinted moisturizers are still on the market and probably still have many fans, I haven’t seen a new launch for one in quite a while--alphabet creams are all the rage now.

BB Creams:

BB creams are an Asian import that have become super popular in the last two years here in the US. BB creams provide coverage with added skin care benefits like SPF and anti-oxidants--the list goes on depending on what brand you choose. They're lighter than foundation but heavier than tinted moisturizers. While the additives in BB creams can have the same efficacy as they would in stand-alone serums, be careful about counting on BB creams for adequate sun protection. "My only concern is that since BB cream is generally tinted, women use less on their face," Manhattan dermatologist Dr. Heidi Waldorf said. Meaning you won't slather it on the way you do--or should--with a more traditional sunscreen, resulting in inadequate protection.

CC Creams:

The difference between BB and CC creams is subtle--CC generally stands for “color correcting” and the products are meant to address issues like redness or sallowness (usually with light-diffusing particles), whereas BB creams are like lighter foundation with a few skin care benefits thrown in. “CC cream is a color corrector and will be lighter on the skin [than a BB cream],” celeb makeup artist Nico Guilis told us. “They have more of a whipped, light, fluffy feel and finish--kind of the new and improved BB.”

While BB and CC creams are marketed for separate issues, and are theoretically different, I've tried many BBs and a few CC creams--and honestly, they're almost the same. Where it gets most confusing here is that BB/CC benefits and coverage vary greatly among different brands. For example, Clinique's CC cream is definitely more opaque than some BB creams I've tried from other brands. So go figure. You have to be diligent in reading ingredients and most importantly, trying them out (like we did) to figure out what you want and need. (Allure has a great list here detailing which BB/CC brands are best for which type of skin issues).

DD Creams:

And now get ready for DD creams (sigh).

Julep is releasing what it's calling a "Dynamic Do-All" cream this summer, and it kinda sounds like a BB/CC hybrid. Weirdly, the cosmetics industry was predicting something completely different for DD creams. Back in November of 2012, a cosmetics industry analyst told Cosmetic Design (a trade website) that a number of DD creams, called "Daily Defense" creams were poised to launch, but they aren't for your face--rather they are "heavy duty body and foot creams." So it will be interesting to see if Julep single-handedly just changed that category with its forthcoming launch.

Foundation:

So if BB and CC creams provide some decent coverage and even skin care benefits, is this the end of traditional foundation as we know it? Probably not.

Guilis prefers traditional foundations, because she can custom mix them. And this highlights probably the most important difference between all these products: BB/CC creams and tinted moisturizers usually come in only a few shades, while foundations can come in dozens, ensuring a more exact skin match. “To me personally [BB and CC creams] are kind of like a shampoo and conditioner all-in-one--it doesn't give the [exact] finish you want,” Guilis said. I've even heard several makeup artists say they like to use BB cream as a primer--and then put foundation on top.

While there are a lot of options out there for skin coverage, I'm inclined to consider it a good thing. The more choices, the better right? Just don't fall for the marketing, and try them out (or read a lot of reviews--Makeup Alley rarely steers me wrong) before you buy them.

Meaning you won't slather it on the way you do--or should--with a more traditional sunscreen, resulting in inadequate protection.

    CC Creams:

The difference between BB and CC creams is subtle--CC generally stands for “color correcting” and the products are meant to address issues like redness or sallowness (usually with light-diffusing particles), whereas BB creams are worldwide travel insurance including usa lighter foundation with a few skin care benefits thrown in.

Where it gets most what does bb cream and cc cream mean here is that BB/CC benefits and coverage vary greatly among different brands.

Julep what does bb cream and cc cream mean releasing what it's calling a "Dynamic Do-All" cream this summer, and it kinda sounds like a BB/CC hybrid. Weirdly, the cosmetics industry was predicting something completely different for DD creams. Back in November of 2012, a cosmetics industry analyst told Cosmetic Design (a trade website) that a number of DD creams, called "Daily Defense" creams were poised to launch, but they aren't for your face--rather they are "heavy duty body what does bb cream and cc cream mean foot creams." So it will be interesting to see if Julep single-handedly just changed that category with its forthcoming launch.

    Foundation:

So if BB best coverage bb cream drugstore CC creams provide some decent coverage and even skin care benefits, is this the end of traditional foundation as we know it? Probably not.

Guilis prefers traditional foundations, because she can custom mix them. And this highlights probably the most important difference between all these products: BB/CC creams and tinted moisturizers usually come in only a few shades, while foundations can come in dozens, ensuring a more exact skin match. “To me personally [BB and CC creams] are kind of like a shampoo and conditioner all-in-one--it doesn't give the [exact] finish you want,” Guilis said. I've even heard several how to add someone to bank account wells fargo artists say they like to use BB cream as a primer--and then put foundation on top.

While there are a lot of options out there for skin coverage, I'm inclined to consider it a good thing. The more choices, the better right? Just don't fall for the marketing, and try them out (or read a lot of reviews--Makeup Alley rarely steers me wrong) before you buy them.

Tinted moisturizers were the predecessors, but about seven years guaranty bank locations they came in very limited shades and textures.

It's just a matter of finding what eastern bank credit card apply need for your skin - is it coverage, brightening, skincare? It's up to you! Don't buy because it's new, buy it because it's something you will actually use. Research online and swatch at the store before purchasing. :)

Weigh in! How do you feel about these newfangled face bases?

    FROM_JS

Once upon a time, there was foundation. And…that was pretty much it. It came in the form of cream, powder, sticks, you name it—and it was meant to be applied to the face to even out your skintone and correct blemishes.

But as of late, as the beauty industry is branching out and diversifying, the stuff you can put on your skin has done the same. People who are new to makeup might be a little overwhelmed when they go marquette savings bank conneaut lake for a simple foundation and find BB cream, CC cream, tinted moisturizer, primer, matte powders, and setting spray instead. But these alternatives to traditional foundation are blowing up in a big way, so let’s break down the basics.

    Creams vs. Foundation

Simply put, a traditional foundation is just makeup. Foundation is typically fairly heavy and built for moderate coverage that paints over blemishes, redness, dark circles and discoloration. It’s the most dramatic way to get the appearance of a flawless face, but in many cases, it clogs pores, and all foundations do not agree with all skin types. Foundation might slide off of oily skin, flake off of dry skin and irritate sensitive skin. But it comes in endless formulas and shades, and with enough looking, many makeup aficionados have found their holy grail foundation that’s perfect for their skin color and type.

BB and CC creams, on the other hand, are a marriage between foundation and skincare. They’re specifically created to be lightweight and subtle, and different formulas can remedy different skincare issues while gently evening out your skintone. They’re perfect for a no-makeup makeup look or a low-maintenance beauty routine, but the downside is that they come in a much more limited range of shades and finishes than foundations.

    To BB or to CC?

Even though they’re both great alternatives to foundation, BB and CC cream have some key differences that buyers should know about.

The ‘BB’ stands for ‘beauty balm’ or ‘blemish balm’, depending on who you ask. Lauren Serra, Senior MUA at Blushington’s in NYC says, “[BB cream is] a multi-step skincare regimen in one application that provides more coverage than tinted moisturizer.”

The main draw of BB cream is their use of antioxidants and sunscreens that keep the skin both healthy and looking great. BB cream is light and buildable, and typically has a dewy or natural finish. People with dry skin find that BB cream hydrates them better than most foundations, and it doesn’t flake off or get cakey. However, if your skin is oily, you might have a hard time getting a BB cream to play nice on your face.

By contrast, a CC cream—'CC’ meaning “color correcting” or “complexion correcting”—is what does bb cream and cc cream mean than BB cream but still lighter than foundation. Its appeal is in its usefulness as a concealer that fixes southern heritage classic parade 2019, sallowness and dull spots while providing soft, semi-matte coverage. Celebrity makeup artist Brittany Spyksma advises: “If you like the idea of a BB cream but have some skin issues like discoloration or redness, try a CC cream”.

CC creams have proven ideal for people with oily skin who struggle to get foundations or BB creams to stay put. They’re non-comedogenic and also serve as a primer that foundation can stick to. Dry skin, on the other hand, may feel dried out further by a CC cream’s matte finish.
So, if you’re just dipping your toes into the waters of makeup, try playing around with some light coverage creams and see what works for you.
